Chapter 221: Hmm, You’re Really Good.
by 范氏女子Chapter 221: Hmm, You're Amazing.
Once Yu Xu and his son were gone, Su He took the gifts they’d brought into the shop.
Fu Tinghua eyed the gifts in her hands skeptically.
"Ugh, I couldn’t refuse," Su He said helplessly to Fu Tinghua.
Fu Tinghua didn’t respond, just looked away before returning to help customers ring up.
Once the customers had left, Su He asked Fu Tinghua, "Hey, do you think there’s still any chance for Yu Xu’s foot to be treated?"
Fu Tinghua thought for a moment before replying, "He’d have to get it checked at the hospital to know for sure."
Su He wanted to ask—if Fu Yanju and Yu Xu were into each other, would Fu Tinghua approve? After all, with Yu Xu’s foot like that, Fu Tinghua probably wouldn’t want his sister to get stuck in another mess.
But eh, it’s all in my head anyway. Why bother asking?
Meanwhile, Yu Xu and his son were walking home.
Their place was over three kilometers from Su He’s shop, but they couldn’t justify splurging on a cab, so they always walked, no matter the distance.
Yu Xu’s bad leg slowed them down, and Yu Xi walked slower to keep up with his dad.
Neither spoke the whole way until Yu Xi suddenly asked, "Dad… you got a thing for Auntie Fu?"
The "Auntie Fu" he referred to was, of course, Fu Yanju.
Hearing his son’s words, Yu Xu let out a bitter laugh.
"Don’t talk nonsense, kid! Someone as wonderful as your Auntie Fu—like I’d ever drag her down? Don’t say things like that again."
A woman like her was way out of his league.
His leg screwed up his life enough—he couldn’t ruin another innocent woman’s.
Besides, Fu Yanju’s brother and sister-in-law were clearly not your average folks. What right did he have to even look her way?
Their family had already helped him so much. He couldn’t repay their kindness by making Fu Yanju suffer with him.
He had to work hard, earn money, and dig himself out of this hole. He couldn’t stay stuck in this miserable state, dragging others down with him.
This was his shot to flip the script.
He had to make a name for himself in the renovation business—make the ones who ditched him eat their words.
As for love stuff… he’d think about that once he was financially stable.
If he remained like this forever, he wouldn’t drag anyone else into his mess.
Yet when they got home, Yu Xu never expected that bastard had the nerve to come back.
The man before him was dressed sharply, his success evident—after all, he had built his own renovation team and thrived over the years.
But Yu Xu knew the truth: his success was built on stepping over others.
The man’s name was Chen Fei—his fellow villager and childhood friend.
They had once been as thick as thieves, but after his leg was crippled, their relationship turned into one of mutual avoidance.
But how ridiculous—now that he had some business coming in, this man actually wanted to partner up again, still expecting to take the lion's share of the kickbacks like before. Did he really think he was stupid?
"A-Xu, you're back? So, how about it? Have you thought over what we discussed?" Chen Fei asked with a smirk.
"Get the hell out. Don’t make me say it again," Yu Xu replied coldly.
"Pfft!" Chen Fei scoffed dismissively before adding, "You’d better think carefully. A gimp like you—can you really handle so many orders alone?
Partnering with me is different. You won’t have to do the work, especially since your leg isn’t up to it, right?
But as for the money... you’ll only get twenty percent.
You should know, as the middleman, giving you twenty percent is already out of respect for our past friendship."
Yu Xu remained expressionless and repeated coldly, "Get lost."
Seeing his attitude, Chen Fei dropped the act.
"Yu Xu! You’re nothing but a cripple now. What’s there to be proud of?"
Yu Xu turned to look at his childhood friend. They had once been so close—how had this person turned into such a despicable, unrecognizable figure?
"Chen Fei, why is it that every time my life starts improving, you come to disturb me? I can’t help but wonder—did I wrong you in some way before? Is that why you insist on trampling and humiliating me like this?" Yu Xu said wearily.
Hearing this, Chen Fei’s expression twitched instantly. "What nonsense are you spouting? Hmph, forget it if you don’t want to cooperate. I’ll just wait and watch you drown in all those orders and regret it later."
With that, Chen Fei turned and left, as though he were afraid Yu Xu might uncover something.
His reaction made Yu Xu really wonder if something was off.
He couldn’t help but go over every moment between him and Chen Fei in his mind, but no matter how hard he thought, he couldn’t make sense of it.
"Dad, when we start the renovation work, you think he'll mess with us?" Yu Xi asked worriedly from the side.
Yu Xu shook his head. "I don’t know. Right now, he hates seeing me succeed. We’ll have to be extra careful from now on."
Another day came to an end as Su He and Fu Tinghua tallied up the day's take.
"Weird, why didn’t Dad bring any durians today? Could something have happened?" Su He muttered.
When Fu Dajun and Wu Yanhua left yesterday, they had mentioned bringing durians, but they hadn’t specified whether it would be today or tomorrow.
Given their usual enthusiasm, they would've delivered a batch by now.
"Tomorrow’s Friday. If they still haven’t arrived by 4 p.m., I’ll drive back to check on them," Fu Tinghua said, furrowing his brow.
Why wait until four? Because the Fu family always delivered the durians before 3 p.m.—the truck driver from their village needed to head back in the afternoon.
"Alright. If they do come tomorrow, we can divvy up the earnings from the durian sales these past few days. And I can also tell them I’ve secured a supplier—selling the durians at a wholesale price of one yuan ten each," Su He said with a nod.
"One yuan ten? I was meaning to ask—why that price?" Usually, even numbers were easier to calculate, weren’t they?
Hearing Fu Tinghua’s question, Su He couldn’t help but grin triumphantly. "Because I’m just that good, of course. My bottom line was actually 1 yuan. If he had haggled a bit more, I might’ve caved. But who knew he’d be so easy to fool? If I can earn a little extra, why not?"
Fu Tinghua: "..."
"Yeah, you’re amazing," Fu Tinghua said, the corner of his lips twitching upward.
Honestly, he had witnessed Su He’s way with words many times before. When it came to arguments, no one could out-talk her. Thinking about how even his aunt had been helpless against Su He—how she had even helped his mother keep his aunt from hounding them—Fu Tinghua couldn’t help but feel his wife was truly remarkable.
