Chapter 288 Out of Uniform, He's Nobody

When Fu Tinghua returned home, both kids were already asleep, and even Su He was already home after closing up shop.

She was sitting on the porch steps, watching the moon while waiting for Fu Tinghua.

"You're back so late—must be exhausted?" Su He ran up to Fu Tinghua as soon as she saw him.

"Yeah, it was a busy day." Fu Tinghua patted Su He's head, not mentioning that he had been stuck at the hospital to babysit some VIP.

He didn’t want Su He to worry or be troubled by such matters.

"It's fine. I’ve already boiled water for you and set out your clothes. Go take a bath and get some rest."

Su He immediately dragged Fu Tinghua to the kitchen.

Looking at the hand Su He was holding, Fu Tinghua couldn’t help but smile.

Honestly, in the past, his temper wouldn't have let him take this crap.

If it had been before, Fu Tinghua would've definitely snapped some sarcastic comments at Commander Yu’s subordinates back in the ward.

But not anymore. Because now he had someone to care for, Fu Tinghua feared getting into trouble, so he had become more patient than before.

Though he was tired of dealing with all the office politics, what could he do? Maybe he needed to adjust some aspects of his personality.

Su He, for example, was someone who knew how to pick her battles.

Tough when needed, humble when required.

Kissing up to the bosses when one wasn’t yet strong enough was also a form of self-protection.

"What's gotten into you? Why are you staring at me and smiling?" Su He asked, puzzled.

"Nothing. Just thinking… you’re really good." Fu Tinghua finished, then leaned down to plant a quick kiss to Su He’s lips.

"Alright, go take your bath. I’ll go check on the kids."

After speaking, Su He looked around sheepishly, then stood on her tiptoes to kiss Fu Tinghua’s lips before scurrying off.

Fu Tinghua watched as she hurried away, touched his lips with his fingers, and shook his head with a chuckle.

While Fu Tinghua was bathing, Su He went to check on the children before returning to their room and lying in bed to wait for him.

By the time Fu Tinghua finished his bath and returned, Su He was already fast asleep.

Seeing this, Fu Tinghua could only sigh in frustration.

That kiss of hers had got him worked up, yet here she was, sleeping peacefully completely oblivious.

But Fu Tinghua was also exhausted from the day’s work. With Su He already asleep, he didn't give it another thought and simply climbed into bed, holding her as he dozed off.

The next day, Su He received some news—Wen Yuru had given birth.

She had been taken to the hospital late last night, the same hospital where Fu Tinghua worked.

Considering the timeline, two or three months had passed, so it wasn’t unexpected.

This news was Shi Jin came to tell her himself.

During this time, Wen Yuru hadn't had time to visit her, as her large belly made getting around hard. Additionally, Su He was also very busy, so neither could find the time to meet up.

In the final stretch, Wen Yuru had been too afraid to eat durian again, worried the baby might grow too big.

"Yuru's been missing you. If you have time, go see her," Shi Jin said when he visited Su He’s shop, also buying several durians.

Su He wanted to give him a discount, but he refused, paying the full price.

Young Master Shi wasn't exactly strapped for cash, after all.

"By the way, be careful these days. Your shop's been drawing too much attention," Shi Jin reminded Su He before leaving.

"Alright, thank you for the reminder, Young Master Shi," Su He replied, unsurprised that her shop had been noticed.

"No problem. If you need help with anything, don’t hesitate to ask."

Shi Jin held great admiration for Su He.

Honestly, it was impressive for a woman to achieve such success in business.

The Shi family business also needed someone with good business sense to manage it, but unfortunately, Su He was already married and had two children.

After Shi Jin left, Su He took out the stun baton she had gotten from her inventory and placed it under the cash register.

She wasn't too concerned about herself—as long as the other party didn’t have a gun, she wasn’t afraid.

But she was concerned about Su Shiming and Fu Yanju, fearing they might get hurt if trouble arose.

Even in modern society with good public security, robberies still happened, let alone these days.

When Su Shiming came to relieve her, Su He bought some fruit, put together a red envelope, and headed to the hospital to visit Wen Yuru.

She didn’t bring the two kids, worried they might be noisy and disturb Wen Yuru and the newborn.

At the hospital entrance, Su He recognized two familiar figures.

Liu Jianjun and his mother looked a complete mess. Liu Jianjun, who always wore his uniform, was now dressed in unusually shabby clothes.

His mother looked even worse, her hair messy and her whole appearance aged by a decade.

The two had been waiting at the hospital entrance, trying to get in but being stopped by security.

Clearly someone had given orders not to let them enter.

"This is a hospital! Why won’t you let me in? What’s the meaning of this? You know who you're dealing with?" Liu Jianjun yelled indignantly.

"That’s right! My son is an officer! Open up this instant!"

"My wife is inside! Why is the hospital stopping me from seeing my own wife and child?"

"Exactly! There’s no justice left! Look at this—the hospital is treating people like dirt!"

Seeing the two causing a ruckus, Su He thought about taking a detour.

Those two were trouble for anyone who got involved.

But she was too eye-catching; she stood out in any crowd, and Liu Jianjun noticed her immediately.

After all, what guy doesn't check out a pretty woman?

Spotting Su He, Liu Jianjun immediately recognized her and stopped arguing with the security guards.

He hurried over to Su He, who was trying to slip away, and said excitedly, "Miss Su, what luck running into you here! You're here to see Yu Ru, right? Could you take me inside? Isn’t your husband a doctor at this hospital? They won’t let me or my mom in—can you vouch for us?"

    Su He: "..."

Buddy? Since when are we friends?

She'd been trying to avoid them, but since that wasn’t possible, she gave up.

"Mr. Liu, Yu Ru doesn’t want to see you. You should leave," Su He replied, a little exasperated.

"I know I was wrong, really. Please help me, Miss Su. I just want to see Yu Ru once and beg for her forgiveness. I swear to God, if she'll forgive me, I’ll do anything," Liu Jianjun pleaded earnestly.

"I can’t help you. Now, please move aside." Su He had no intention of being his fall guy—she'd have to be crazy as a loon to speak up for him.

A momma's boy like that would never truly change.

Besides, Wen Yuru had probably only fallen for him in the past because she was blinded by love.

Now that this man had taken off his military uniform, he just looked like an ordinary middle-aged man—nowhere near good enough for Wen Yuru.
