Chapter 170 Unintentionally Showing Off Again
by 范氏女子Chapter 170 – Casually Flexing Again
"Oh, it's just our daughter and son-in-law bringing the grandkids by," Wen Qing said with a smile to Liu Mei, then called out to Su He and Fu Tinghua standing by the car. "Sweetie, Ting Hua, come over and say hello to Aunt Liu Mei."
Su He and Fu Tinghua exchanged a glance before each taking one of the children by the hand and walking over.
The sight of the picture-perfect couple left both Tan Xiaoshuang’s and Xu Runze’s families completely floored.
"This... this is Su He?" Liu Mei asked in astonishment, staring at her.
"Yep, our sweet girl. No clue how she dropped the weight so fast. We liked her a little plumper—after all, parents always think their kids should be a bit rounder. But she thought being overweight wasn’t healthy, so she slimmed down," Wen Qing sighed.
Shedding pounds wasn’t a walk in the park.
And not everyone could turn out this gorgeous after losing weight.
"Aunt Liu Mei, hello!" Su He greeted warmly.
She knew this aunt well—because of her close friendship with Wen Qing, she used to bring Xu Runze over to play when they were kids, which was why they had been so close back then.
"Ah, Su He, it’s been ages!" Liu Mei beamed.
Then she dragged Xu Runze—who had been standing nearby—forward. "Su He, this is my A Ze. You remember him, right? You two used to play together all the time as kids."
Xu Runze had already met Su He that afternoon, so he didn’t bat an eye now.
But the man beside her—was that really her husband?
A single look told you he wasn’t ordinary.
Meanwhile, Tan Xiaoshuang had been white-knuckling her fists ever since she saw the car parked outside the Su household and laid eyes on Su He and Fu Tinghua.
Her nails dug into her palms, but she didn’t even feel it.
Su He—
How did she end up living such a perfect life?
Someone she once looked down on was now living like royalty?
Her husband was so handsome, and his vibe alone screamed elite.
Well, of course—only big shots could afford wheels like that.
She and Xu Runze had been studying and working in the capital for years, yet their salaries barely cracked a hundred. Forget buying a car—they could hardly afford the basics.
The cost of living there was sky-high, but their families back home kept expecting a free ride to the city, assuming they were rolling in cash.
They didn’t dare admit how stuck they were in no-man’s-land—neither successful nor failing outright.
Truth was, they both wanted to go back home and reboot, but every time they tried to bring it up, their families would ask when they’d finally whisk them away to the capital for a vacation.
After all these years, both sides still believed their children were exceptional—how could they possibly see their struggles?
Right now, she couldn’t hold a candle to Su He, who had everything—a happy marriage, a loving family.
As for herself—she’d backed the wrong pony. Xu Runze might have been the big fish in their tiny pond back in the neighborhood, but what good was that now?
But out there in the vast world, he's just another face in the crowd. With his current earning power, how could he possibly support her?
Would she have to chip in for the bills after they married?
And if he got pregnant later—then what?
Even Su He managed to land a wealthy man. Why couldn’t she?
Wasn’t she a hundred times better than Su He?
Seeing someone who used to be so far beneath her now living so much better—it really stung.
Su He looked at Xu Runze, who appeared visibly tense, and smiled slightly. “Childhood’s all a bit fuzzy to me,” she said. “But Auntie Liu Mei, this is my husband, Fu Tinghua.”
After speaking, Su He linked arms with Fu Tinghua right in front of everyone.
Hearing Su He say she didn’t remember him, Xu Runze scowled.
Was she serious? Back in the day, she was always glued to his side like a lost puppy—now she says she doesn’t remember him? Yeah, right.
She was just rubbing it in, wasn’t she? Rubbing in the fact that she’d scored a top-tier husband.
Fu Tinghua wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, but that didn’t stop him from backing his wife up in this charade.
He reached over and gave her hair an affectionate tousle, beaming with affection.
Then he turned to greet Auntie Liu. “Hello, Auntie Liu.”
Liu Mei felt extremely awkward. She had hoped her son could get chummy with Su He’s husband—after all, anyone who could swing a car was clearly someone with means.
Who would’ve thought Su He would outright say she didn’t remember her son?
“Hello, hello! It’s Ting Hua, right?” Liu Mei quickly replied.
“Yes. It’s late, so I’ll take Su He and the kids home first.”
Fu Tinghua nodded at Liu Mei before turning to Su Shiming and Wen Qing. “Mom, Dad, we’ll head back now.”
“Go ahead, drive safely,” Su Shiming said with a smile.
This time, their daughter and son-in-law had truly made them proud in front of the neighbors.
Before, people would talk trash about him and Wen Qing having no son, saying their daughter was a good-for-nothing, overweight plain Jane.
Talk all you want about him—but not his daughter.
After tonight, no one would dare speak ill of her again.
Fu Tinghua opened the car door for Su He, letting her and the children climb into the back seat before getting behind the wheel himself.
After waving goodbye to Su Shiming and Wen Qing, he fired up the engine and drove out of the timeworn alley.
As the car pulled away, the group stared after them.
“My, look at you two—you’ve really turned things around,” Liu Mei remarked once the car was out of sight. “That son-in-law of yours—he’s obviously a big deal, huh?”
Wen Qing didn’t even get a word in edgewise before Su Shiming cut in.
"What's there to put up with? As long as my son-in-law treats my daughter and grandchildren well, no matter what job he has, I'm perfectly happy."
The crowd: ......
How hypocritical! Then why do you look so smug right now?
After Su Shiming's comment, everyone felt even more certain that Fu Tinghua must be someone special.
"Wow, Su He really scored! Where did she find such a husband?"
"I know! I wonder if she has any other connections? Does your son-in-law have any unmarried friends or colleagues? My daughter's already nineteen and looking to get married—maybe they could meet?"
"Exactly! Your son-in-law is such a hunk. And your grandchildren—they've clearly inherited their parents’ good looks. So young and already so adorable!"
The neighbors all crowded around Su Shiming and Wen Qing, piling on the compliments, while Tan Xiaoshuang was left out in the cold, her face darkening.
These people were such fair-weather friends.
Earlier, when she and A Ze had come back, these same people had asked them to introduce eligible bachelors from their circle to their children.
But the moment they saw how impressive Su He's husband was, they immediately jumped ship.
