Chapter 262: Kids with Natural Curiosity

Just then, Zai Zai had already dashed to the front, leaving everyone behind and becoming the first.

The youngest, yet he could run so fast.

Su He and Fu Tinghua walked behind, kept calling out to them, "Slow down, don't fall!"

But the kids, lost in their fun, paid no heed.

"These kids are such a handful," Su He couldn't help but say, rubbing her forehead.

"It's fine, let them play. Childhood only lasts a few short years," Fu Tinghua said, smiling at the sweet sight before him.

"I'm just worried they'll fall. Let's walk faster and catch up," Su He said, quickening her pace.

Fu Tinghua had to follow along.

Fortunately, the kids were pretty responsible—no one fell despite running so fast.

Zai Zai ended up being the first to arrive.

Meanwhile, Ji Liangchuan, who had to pull along the little sleepyhead Niu Niu, wound up last.

After running for a while, Niu Niu kept saying she was too tired to go on and told Ji Liangchuan to go ahead without her.

Seeing Zai Zai already far ahead, Ji Liangchuan just gave up and walked back slowly with Niu Niu.

When Su He and Fu Tinghua arrived, the kids were already seated on the chairs in the living room.

After running around for a while, all the kids were sweaty.

Su He fetched a dry towel and wiped everyone's sweat—we don't want them catching cold later.

In the countryside, the temperature difference between morning and evening was significant, so it's easy to get sick with a fever.

"Auntie, can we start making the cake now?" Zhuang Zhuang asked.

"Yes, but Auntie needs to get things ready first. When I need your help later, you can come and assist me. For now, go play for a bit, okay?" Su He said to the children.

"Okay! But Mom, if you need my help later, you have to remember to call me," Niu Niu couldn't help but remind her.

"Don't worry, I'll remember," Su He was almost laughing at her silly daughter.

The kids played little games by the door while Su He began getting ready to bake.

"I'll help you," Fu Tinghua quickly offered, stepping forward.

    "Mm, okay."

Su He got out the ingredients she'd prepared—flour, eggs, milk, butter, sugar, and so on. Today, she was determined to get it right this time.

Without an oven here, she could only steam the cake using the rice cooker.

Fu Tinghua didn't know how to make a cake, but he was obedient—he did whatever Su He told him.

When Su He took out the egg beater and started whisking, the machine immediately started whirring loudly.

Hearing the sound, Fu Tinghua automatically looked over. Before he could even ask anything, the kids playing in the living room rushed into the kitchen.

"Mom, mom, what are you doing?" Niu Niu ran in on her little legs, curiously watching the hand mixer in Su He's hands.

"Mommy's making a cake," Su He replied with a smile.

"Mommy, can I try that?" Niu Niu stared intently at the hand mixer, her face full of expectation as she asked Su He.

"Sure, here you go." Su He handed the hand mixer directly to Niu Niu.

Niu Niu excitedly took it, pressed the switch, and the hand mixer immediately emitted a "whirring" sound.

"I want to try too," even the usually silent Zai Zai spoke up.

Kids are naturally curious about new things and want to try them.

"Let your sister try first, then it'll be your turn, okay?" Su He said with a smile.

"Aunt Su, I want to play too."

"Me too, I want to try."

"And me, I want a turn too."

The children all stared curiously at the hand mixer, all begging for a turn.

"Alright, alright, you can all have a turn. But if you want to eat the cake sooner, you can't play for too long—just two minutes each. Niu Niu, your time's up, let your brother have a turn."

After saying this, Su He turned her gaze to Niu Niu.

Reluctantly, Niu Niu stepped aside and handed the hand mixer to Zai Zai.

And so, each curious child got to use the hand mixer for two minutes before Su He ushered them out of the kitchen.

This was just making a mess—slowing down her baking.

The pot Su He originally used for cooking was a bit small, but she got a bigger one from her storage, so once everything was ready, she could start steaming the cake.

She instructed Fu Tinghua to watch the stove while she made the frosting.

The frosting also relied mostly on the hand mixer, but it took forever to whip right.

Following Su He's instructions, Fu Tinghua kept the flame low to avoid burning.

In just a short while, the aroma of cake filled the kitchen.

After steaming for about ten minutes, Su He told him it was ready, and Fu Tinghua quickly took the pot off the burner.

When he opened the lid, Fu Tinghua was amazed.

Who would have thought the batter put into the pot could turn into something so fragrant, with a soft and springy texture that looked incredibly appetizing.

"Is it done? Did it burn?" Su He also put down what she was doing and came over to ask.

"Seems not," Fu Tinghua stepped aside to let Su He see.

"Good, for a first try, this is very successful. Let's keep going like before—we've got a big family, so we'll make three cakes." Su He said with great satisfaction.

The pot was still a bit small in Su He's opinion, so she had originally planned to make two cakes, but now she decided to make three instead.

"Alright," Fu Tinghua replied before going back to his task.

Su He really liked working with him and was completely happy.

So far, she hadn’t discovered anything about Dr. Fu that would push her buttons.

Though he wasn’t particularly talkative, he handled everything she asked him to do flawlessly.

“Mom, it smells so good!” Little foodie Niu Niu caught the scent and immediately dashed in.

“How does this little one have such a sharp nose?” Su He couldn’t help pinching her daughter’s cheek.

While the other kids were playing outside, she was the only one who came in after smelling the aroma.

    “Mom, I want a bite.”

Niu Niu’s eyes sparkled as she stared at the cake that had been moved to the dining table, her mouth watering.

Su He planned to decorate the cake here, giving it shape.

“Alright, here’s a little piece for you to try.” Su He cut a small slice and handed it to Niu Niu.

Niu Niu took a big bite and, with eyes shining like stars, hugged Su He’s leg excitedly. “Mom, the cake is delicious! I want more cake!”

    Su He: “......”

“It’s not done yet,” Su He said with a sigh.

“But it’s already so yummy even unfinished!” Niu Niu batted her big eyes adorably.

Su He pinched her daughter’s cheek again. “Go wait outside—no more nibbling. Mom will finish soon. Don’t you remember what I said? Good things come to those who wait.”

Niu Niu didn’t quite understand the meaning, but that didn’t stop her from obeying Su He.

Still, as she left, she left dragging her feet, glancing back every few steps.
