Chapter 400: Petty Emotions
by 范氏女子Chapter 400: A Touch of Frustration
Fu Tinghua couldn't help but feel wary as he looked at the woman before him.
Not long ago, he had just experienced a medical malpractice incident, so encountering such a strange case made him extra cautious.
"Madam, the patient information you just asked for is not something I can disclose," Fu Tinghua said, growing increasingly impatient as he stood up to leave.
In her panic, the woman grabbed hold of Fu Tinghua's collar and pleaded urgently, "Ting Hua... is that your name? You... you might be my son. Please, tell me. I really need to know if you're my child."
As she spoke, her entire body trembled violently, as if she were on the verge of a medical episode.
Seeing her like this, Fu Tinghua's expression changed. Without another thought, he quickly steadied her and helped her sit down, then began checking her vitals.
But this was just an office—there was no proper medical equipment here.
The thought made Fu Tinghua grew even more annoyed with the director.
No matter how powerful the patient was, scheduling an examination in an office was unacceptable.
If an emergency occurred and something happened to the patient, the hospital would be held responsible.
There would be no way to shift the blame later.
Fu Tinghua walked over to the landline and called the front desk, instructing them to send over a stretcher.
By the time he returned to the woman, she had visibly composed herself.
"Fu... Ting Hua, I'll be alright. Can we just stay here? I don’t want to go anywhere else," the woman said again.
"If you're here for medical treatment, you must follow hospital procedures. I can't help you here. Or would you prefer I have the director see you instead?" Fu Tinghua replied coldly.
He had always been naturally straightforward. If not for his exceptional medical skills, he would have offended all the important people long ago.
But after getting together with Su He, he had learned to compromise for the sake of protecting his family, even if it meant playing along with formalities.
Now, however—
Faced with such a maddening situation, Fu Tinghua couldn’t hold back at all.
"No, I... I only want you, not anyone else. I’ll go wherever you say, alright?" The woman quickly backpedaled, afraid Fu Tinghua would ignore her.
Fu Tinghua frowned at her, convinced she must indeed have serious psychiatric problems.
Soon, the stretcher arrived, and the woman was lifted onto it, ready to be taken to the exam room.
"Ting Hua, don’t... don’t leave," she implored anxiously when she saw Fu Tinghua wasn’t following.
"I’ll be there shortly," Fu Tinghua replied helplessly.
Even as she was wheeled out of the dean’s office, the woman kept looking back at Fu Tinghua longingly.
As soon as she left, Fu Tinghua immediately called the front desk again, instructing them to notify the dean that he was waiting for him in his office.
This time, Fu Tinghua was truly furious. The dean had always been good to him, so he usually complied with extra shifts or other arrangements.
But why dump someone like this on him—someone who wasn’t even here for real treatment, just cutting ahead and wasting his time?
There were many patients waiting for him to see, and he wasn't here to handle psychiatric cases.
Dean Qin quickly arrived at the office, flashing his practiced professional smile the moment he entered, exuding practiced warmth and instantly putting others at ease.
"Ting Hua, what's the matter? Weren't you treating Mrs. Gu? Where is she?" Dean Qin asked as soon as he came in.
Fu Tinghua gave him a faint glance and replied coldly, "Transferred to emergency."
"What?! Mrs. Gu is in such a serious condition that she had to be rushed to the emergency room?!" Dean Qin startled, his voice pitching higher.
Fu Tinghua leveled him with an exasperated look before fixing his cold gaze on the dean, making him squirm.
"Ting Hua, what's wrong? If something’s bothering you, just say it."
Being stared at like this was plain unnerving.
Although Fu Tinghua usually appeared aloof, he was typically even-keeled. This was the first time he had looked at the dean so silently and unreadably.
"Dean, I think you should do some research before assigning patients to me in the future. Stop dumping patients on me indiscriminately, alright? This one clearly wasn’t here for medical treatment. As for this so-called Mrs. Gu, assign her to another doctor. She’s beyond my expertise—I can’t handle her."
After dropping these words, Fu Tinghua left, leaving Dean Qin left gaping in the office, completely at a loss.
By the time the dean made his way to the emergency room, Mrs. Gu had mostly calmed down, and her heart rate had returned to normal.
When the door opened, Mrs. Gu’s face brightened expectantly, but the moment she saw it wasn’t Fu Tinghua, her expression turned indifferent again.
No matter how mentally unstable the person before him might be, Dean Qin wouldn’t dare cross her.
So he stepped forward with an ingratiating smile and greeted her, "Mrs. Gu, are you feeling better? Your attending physician has been changed—I’ll be personally handling your case now."
Well, if she recovered, everyone would be happy. If not, there was nothing he could do about it anyway.
The hospital’s entire reputation now hinged on Fu Tinghua’s shoulders. If their star doctor refused to take this patient, what could he do?
This was the downside of having only one exceptionally skilled doctor in the hospital. If he went on strike, the other doctors would be completely out of their depth with his patients.
But what could be done? A doctor like Fu Tinghua was one of a kind—there wasn’t a second one like him in the entire country.
Hearing the dean’s words, Mrs. Gu’s expression soured immediately.
Had she come here for treatment? No, she had come to find someone.
If Fu Tinghua wasn’t going to treat her, then what was the point of her being here? This was ridiculous.
Who needed this hospital’s dean to treat them?
"I don’t want you. I want—I only want Fu Tinghua," Mrs. Gu said coldly.
Great. Just great. Everyone here demanded special treatment.
Dean Qin couldn’t understand how, as the head of a hospital, he’d wound up in this impossible position.
Both sides were pressuring him, yet he didn’t dare offend either.
The woman before him—her husband bore the surname Gu.
Her visit had been arranged after Peking Union Hospital contacted Dean Qin, saying a VIP patient wished to visit their hospital and see Fu Tinghua.
Moreover, Peking Union Hospital had specifically emphasized that this lady was not to be slighted and had to be given white-glove treatment.
Are they a hospital or a hotel now?
But someone Xiehe Hospital takes so seriously is definitely no ordinary figure.
From what Dean Qin knows, among the prestigious Gu families in the capital, it’s most likely the Gu family—founding pillars of the nation.
A founding marshal—now that's a title that commands respect.
Without such figures, one could say there would be no modern China.
But since the identity hasn’t been revealed, it’s all just Dean Qin’s speculation, and he isn't about to jump to conclusions.
