Chapter 444: The Paternity Test Cannot Be Done!
by 范氏女子Chapter 444: No Paternity Tests!
When Fu Tinghua woke up, it was already lunchtime.
In the end, Su Shiming still couldn’t open the shop—he was too busy chatting with the neighbors. It was Fu Yanju and Yu Xu who went to open the store.
Only after Su He’s materials arrived could Yu Xu help install security bars and such for Su He’s family.
After lunch, Fu Tinghua decided to go to the hospital.
Even though it was lunch hour, he still had a lot of paperwork to handle, so he thought he’d go early to get it done.
After walking out, just as he turned a corner near his home, he saw Aunt Lan standing there, staring at him blankly.
"Ting Hua," Aunt Lan exclaimed happily the moment she saw him.
Fu Tinghua’s expression remained indifferent; he didn’t look happy to see her.
"Ting Hua, I—I haven’t been in Wencheng lately. I had no idea something so terrible happened here. Are you—are you all okay?" Aunt Lan asked anxiously.
"We’re fine," Fu Tinghua replied, his tone still chilly, but at least he was willing to respond.
"That’s good, that’s good. I—I heard the crime happened near the hospital. As soon as I found out, I rushed back to Wencheng," Aunt Lan said, still upset.
"So—where have you been all this time?" Fu Tinghua suddenly asked.
Aunt Lan lit up with surprise and joy that he would ask about her whereabouts.
"I, I..." She hesitated, unsure how to reply.
She had seen Gu Yanzhi’s subordinate in Wencheng, apparently searching for her, so she immediately fled to the train station and left Wencheng that night.
That terrifying man—who didn’t love her, who already had another woman by his side, who even brought that woman into their home—still wouldn’t let her go.
Honestly, this wasn’t the first time she had run away.
Logically, someone like her, barely acknowledged in the Gu family, shouldn’t matter to them anymore.
But Gu Yanzhi wouldn’t stop. Every time she escaped, he would immediately send people to drag her back.
It was as if—as if he was deliberately tormenting her, making her watch his happiness, driving her mad before he’d be satisfied.
But how could she even explain all this to Ting Hua?
Her marriage with Gu Yanzhi was so messed up. She didn’t want Fu Tinghua to know and despise her even more.
"Never mind if you don’t want to say," Fu Tinghua said, frowning at her hesitation before attempting to walk past her toward the hospital.
But as he moved past Aunt Lan, she grabbed his sleeve.
"Ting Hua, I’ll tell you. Please don’t be angry," she pleaded desperately, as if afraid he would ignore her.
"Fine. I’m listening," Fu Tinghua stopped but didn’t turn around.
Aunt Lan was overjoyed. It seemed that this time, Fu Tinghua’s attitude toward her was slightly different.
Of course, she didn’t know that when the first female corpse was discovered near the hospital, Fu Tinghua was frantic with worry, terrified that the victim might have been her.
"I—I noticed that the people who often follow my husband seemed to be looking for me again, trying to drag me back. I—I didn’t want to go back, so I had to leave Wencheng and hide somewhere else," Aunt Lan stammered out.
"Bring you back? Why?" Fu Tinghua asked, clearly puzzled.
"I don't know either. He clearly doesn’t care about me, but he still won’t leave me alone." Maybe because of Fu Tinghua’s kindness at the moment, Aunt Lan instinctively answered.
It was only after she spoke that she realized she shouldn’t have told Fu Tinghua these things.
"You—" She started to say, telling him to ignore what she’d said, but Fu Tinghua spoke first.
"You want my DNA sample? I’ll give it to you."
His words hit like a bolt of lightning, instantly widening Aunt Lan’s eyes in shock.
"Tinghua, you—how did you know?" Did Su He tell him? But that didn’t seem likely.
She’d carefully sounded Su He out for a while, but Aunt Lan wasn’t stupid—she could see Su He wanted no part in it.
Especially since Fu Tinghua clearly resisted and wanted nothing to do with her, Su He wasn’t about to cross him.
But Su He had a good heart and still let her in, even inviting her to their home.
Aunt Lan figured that, whether Fu Tinghua accepted her or not, just being able to see him occasionally made her happy.
There was a time she’d been so low she wanted to die, but the desperate longing to find her son kept her from doing so.
Now that she finally had something to hope for, seeing Fu Tinghua married to such a wonderful wife and raising two well-behaved children, Aunt Lan was okay with it even if they never became family.
As long as her boy wasn’t hurt or suffering somewhere, she could endure anything.
But now, Fu Tinghua had actually offered to give her a DNA sample for a paternity test—how could she not be floored?
"Tinghua, you—you’re really willing?" Aunt Lan pressed, like she couldn’t trust her ears.
Fu Tinghua nodded and said, "If I really am your son, and knowing you didn’t abandon me intentionally, I’ll look after you in your old age. But if I’m not your son, I hope you won’t collapse. Just live for yourself."
Hearing these words, tears sprang to Aunt Lan’s eyes.
Her child was truly so kind.
She ached to have loved and shielded him since birth.
But she’d been powerless. Her family, having backed the wrong side back then, had either died or fled.
Though she had married into the Gu family as part of an alliance, she was the only one who survived unscathed in the end.
Without her family’s support and unloved by her husband, life with the Gus had been hell.
But what could she do? She couldn’t even protect her own son—he was taken from her, vanishing without a trace.
Yet Gu Yanzhi had the audacity to say it was for the best, claiming the child wasn’t even his.
He’d always accused her of cheating, suspecting she was still in contact with her first love. He refused to claim the baby as his.
But—Fu Tinghua looked exactly like Gu Yanzhi in his youth.
She couldn’t let Gu Yanzhi discover Tinghua. If he did, that woman would find out too.
With the Gu family’s backing, that woman’s family had grown increasingly powerful. If they learned her son was still alive, they’d see him as a threat to their power—they’d come after him.
So the DNA test can’t happen!
