Chapter 90 All Pretty and Proper

This was the most civilized meal Zhou Liqun had ever eaten.

Having served in the military before, he was used to wolfing down his food. Ms. Zhou had repeatedly warned him that eating so hastily was bad for his stomach, but her words always went in one ear and out the other.

Who knew he’d actually mind his manners with guests around?

After the meal, Su He said goodbye to Ms. Zhou and Zhou Liqun.

Ms. Zhou offered to drive them home, but Su He declined.

She still had a whole cartload of stuff to deal with, and besides, the weather was overcast with no harsh sunlight, so walking was fine.

After Su He left with the two children, Zhou Liqun couldn’t tear his eyes away from her retreating figure, lost in thought.

    "Still staring!" Ms. Zhou scolded.

Startled by his mother’s sharp tone, Zhou Liqun grumbled, "What’s your problem?"

"I should be asking you that! Your eyes are practically glued to her. Su He already has two kids—cut it out," Ms. Zhou said disapprovingly.

"I don’t mind treating them as my own," Zhou Liqun replied casually.

His answer made Ms. Zhou so mad she could barely speak.

"Well, I do mind! Her husband is much better-looking than you. What’s wrong with you?"

Zhou Liqun had always considered himself pretty easy on the eyes—his blind dates had all been very satisfied with his appearance. Never had he expected the first person to criticize his looks would be his own mother.

"I was just joking. Why so touchy? No need to get personal. My looks come from you and Dad. If I’m not as handsome as her husband, guess that’s on you two."

With that, Zhou Liqun turned and bolted, leaving Ms. Zhou stomping her feet in frustration.

How had she ended up with such a brat? It was infuriating.

After walking for a while, Su He ended up putting Zai Zai and Niu Niu onto the cart.

Both children were bubbling with excitement today—tomorrow, they would finally get to go to the city to see their father again.

"Mommy, Mommy, you have to put me in a pretty dress tomorrow!" Niu Niu pleaded.

"Of course. I’ve already got you one. And Zai Zai, I got you new clothes too," Su He replied, her eyes soft.

Truth was, she hadn’t had time to shop—the clothes were all exchanged from her space.

Now that she had plenty of points and had figured out the fashion trends of this era, she never lacked for clothes.

"Mommy, why isn’t tomorrow here yet?" Niu Niu started her usual barrage of silly questions, bombarding Su He with all sorts of whimsical inquiries.

But Su He patiently answered each one. "Because the things we look forward to the most are worth waiting for. Sometimes, waiting itself is a kind of happiness."

Niu Niu nodded, though she didn’t fully understand. Then she asked, "Mommy, will you wear a dress tomorrow too? Let’s wear dresses together, okay?"

    Su He: "..."

    She just wouldn’t drop it.

Seeing that Niu Niu had brought it up a second time, Su He didn’t want to disappoint her and finally agreed.

"Okay, Mommy will wear a dress with you tomorrow. We'll wear matching family outfits." Thinking of this, Su He couldn't help but smile slightly.

"What are matching outfits, Mommy?" Zai Zai cut in.

    "You'll find out tomorrow."

    ......

After returning home, Su He made the kids wash their faces and wiped their hands and feet before tucking them in for their nap.

She then counted up today's earnings.

This time, the income was slightly less than last market day, totaling seventy-eight yuan, but Su He was pleased enough.

Adding in the money from Fu Tinghua, Su now had over five hundred yuan on hand.

More than two hundred of it was earned by herself. With her space system, she rarely needed to spend much money.

Most of what she lacked, she could get from her space.

This cheat ability had truly been a great help to her.

The day of their city trip came quickly. Su He woke up early in the morning and made steamed buns for the kids.

She planned to pack some for the road in case they got hungry.

The bus took over two hours, while a car would be quicker.

The bus didn’t go straight to the city but looped through other villages to pick up passengers heading there.

There were usually two buses—one around nine in the morning and another at two in the afternoon.

Missing these two meant waiting another day unless one had a private car.

Su He had another reason for waking early. While making the buns, she took the opportunity to wash her face with cleanser.

She took out the makeup mirror, La Mer lotion, Lancôme foundation, YSL lipstick, and other makeup items she had from her space, then began putting on her makeup.

Since she would likely see Fu Tinghua’s coworkers—people who had looked down on the original host—Su He didn’t want to be underestimated. She was determined to look her best and prove them wrong.

She went with subtle makeup—so light it looked natural, yet refined enough to enhance her features.

Because any movement would make her sweat profusely.

Though she didn’t notice any body odor, she still gave herself a spritz of Chanel just in case.

Looking at her reflection in the mirror—so changed from when she first arrived—Su He felt immensely satisfied.

Her current height was around 163 cm, and she had already lost weight, now down to about 120 pounds. Her goal was 100 pounds.

She still needed to lose about twenty more pounds to reach her ideal weight.

But lately, her weight loss had slowed, and she no longer sweated as excessively as before.

Still, losing so much in just over two months was already a great achievement.

After waking Zai Zai and Niu Niu, the kids gaped at Su He, sensing something different about her today but unable to pinpoint what.

"Why are you looking at Mommy like that?" Su He asked, amused.

"Mommy, you look so pretty today," Niu Niu lisped.

"Really? Mommy dressed you up pretty today too," Su He replied with a smile.

After putting on the dress Su He brought over, Niu Niu immediately let out an excited "Wow~"

"Is it a princess dress? Is it like the princess dresses in storybooks?" Niu Niu asked excitedly and curiously.

"Yes, do you like it, sweetie?" Su He asked with a smile.

"I do! So after I wear this little dress, do I become a little princess?"

Su He was amused by Niu Niu's innocent words and ruffled her adorable daughter's hair, saying, "Yes, Niu Niu has always been Mommy's most beautiful little princess."
