Chapter 158 The Bickering Siblings
by 范氏女子**Chapter 158: The Love-Hate Sibling Duo**
"Su He, why did you open this durian?"
Fu Yanju glanced at the durian in her daughter’s hands and winced.
It was so expensive—it should have been sold. Letting them eat it was such a waste.
"It's fine. We sell these ourselves, so of course we should taste them too. Besides, if we can’t even bring ourselves to eat what we grow, what does that say about us?"
She had a point. Fu Yanju couldn’t argue.
"Fourth Sister, try it—see if it tastes good?" Su He said, offering Fu Yanju a piece of durian.
Fu Yanju carefully took it, as if it were treasure.
But Su He didn't laugh. Instead, she gave her an encouraging look, urging her to take a bite.
As the durian hit her tongue, a sweet, soft, creamy texture filled her mouth.
So delicious—no wonder it sold for such a high price.
Her face lit up, and she turned to Su He with excitement. "Su He, this durian will definitely sell well!"
She was sure of it.
Su He’s eyes twinkled with laughter. "Let’s hope so. I’m pretty confident."
Meanwhile, Fu Tinghua pulled up outside the Xia family home, where the butler immediately came out to greet him.
"Mr. Fu! Good to see you."
"Hello, Butler Xia," Fu Tinghua replied with a smile.
"The young sir is home. I’ll go call him," said Butler Xia before heading inside to fetch Xia Chengan.
After parking, Fu Tinghua headed straight to the living room to wait.
He’d visited Xia Chengan many times before, so he felt completely at ease—no awkwardness at all.
"Dr. Fu!"
A young woman rushed into the living room, her eyes lighting up when she saw Fu Tinghua.
This was Xia Miao, Xia Chengan’s younger sister and the Xia family’s beloved daughter. A Tsinghua freshman on summer break, she adored her brother’s friends—especially Dr. Fu.
She’d never met a guy as handsome and clean-cut as him. Xia Miao was a total sucker for looks.
"Hey, Miss Xia," Fu Tinghua greeted politely.
"Oh, come on! You know my Third Brother calls me Miao Miao," Xia Miao said shyly.
Putting on a flirty act, she pretended to tuck imaginary hair behind her ear, her little finger curled up pretentiously.
Xia Chengan, standing behind her, cringed hard.
His dorky little sister—how had she become such a phony?
"Xia Miao, what are you doing? And since when did I ever call you 'Miao Miao' like that?" Xia Chengan called her out the moment he walked in.
No matter how hard Xia Miao blinked, he acted oblivious.
"Xia Chengan!" Xia Miao shouted, flushed with embarrassment.
"There's the real you! When have you ever called me 'third brother'? It's always 'Xia Chengan this, Xia Chengan that!'" Xia Chengan couldn't help but roll his eyes at her.
Xia Miao, who had been trying so hard to act like a lady, was seething. That jerk Xia Chengan had just embarrassed her in front of a handsome guy!
As the youngest in the Xia family and the only girl among her generation, Xia Miao had inevitably been spoiled by her elders and older brothers.
But for some reason, she had never gotten along with Xia Chengan since childhood. The two had been locked in a battle of wits for years, a classic pair of playful rivals.
Yet, somehow Xia Chengan had managed to befriend Fu Tinghua, an incredibly good-looking man, making Xia Miao—a self-confessed looks fanatic—instantly smitten.
Every time she saw Fu Tinghua, Xia Miao would get all flustered.
"Dr. Fu is still here," Xia Miao hissed.
"Oh, Dr. Fu already knows what kind of person you are. What’s there to worry about? Besides, his wife is far more gentle and refined than you—he wouldn’t even look twice at you."
Xia Chengan’s words made Xia Miao want to strangle him.
Great, now she had completely lost face in front of Dr. Fu.
"You... you—I'm telling Mom and Dad! You won't get any allowance this month!"
Fuming, Xia Miao flounced off. Fu Tinghua, who had witnessed the entire sibling squabble, couldn't suppress a smile.
"Haha, don't mind her. My little sister is just a bit spoiled."
Only after Xia Miao left did Xia Chengan apologize to Fu Tinghua.
"It's fine. Kids acting up is normal."
In Fu Tinghua’s eyes, Xia Miao was still a kid.
"By the way, did you resolve that family matter?" Xia Chengan suddenly asked.
He was referring to the issue involving the police chief of Xinxu Town and the Chen family.
"It's nearly resolved," Fu Tinghua replied calmly.
"If you need any help, just let me know."
"Actually, there's another reason I came," Fu Tinghua added.
"Well, my wife's planning to open a shop in town. She just leased a storefront at No. 88 Xinmin Road, near the hospital. The previous landlord mentioned that the rent was collected by the Xia family's butler. Would that be your family's property?"
Xia Chengan looked blank—he didn't handle such things.
So he called out toward the door, "Uncle Xia!"
"Yes, young master?"
The butler came hurrying in.
"Is No. 88 Xinmin Road one of ours?"
Steward Xia replied without hesitation, "Yes."
Once that was settled, Xia Chengan looked at Fu Tinghua with an expression that said, "Finally need my help for something?"
"My wife wants to renovate that shop and would like to draw up a contract saying you can't take back the shop within six years, but rent can be adjusted according to market rates," Fu Tinghua said.
Seeing him being all businesslike, Xia Chengan was annoyed.
"Old Fu, man, what's this about? Such a small thing—do we really need a contract? I give you my word, that's enough."
After speaking, he noticed Fu Tinghua didn't reply but kept looking at him with a faint smile.
"Cut it out. Don't look at me like that. Go look at your wife! You're making my skin crawl."
Seriously, Fu Tinghua was dangerously handsome.
"Steward Xia, go tomorrow and draft a contract according to my sister-in-law's wishes," Xia Chengan said to the butler.
"Right away, sir."
After leaving the Xia residence, Fu Tinghua declined Xia Chengan's offer to drive him home and hailed a cab instead.
He had already returned Xia Chengan's car.
As soon as he entered his own yard, he smelled dinner cooking.
"Dad, you're back!" Niu Niu rushed over to greet him the moment she saw Fu Tinghua.
"Mm, where's Mommy?" Fu Tinghua asked, ruffling her hair.
"Mommy's inside cooking. She's making something yummy tonight!" Niu Niu said excitedly.
