Chapter 335: Don’t Take on What You Can’t Handle

In the morning, the dean had just gone to give Fu Tinghua some words of encouragement, advising him not to dwell on the current situation. With their enemies hiding in the shadows and no leads yet, Fu Tinghua had to tough it out for the time being.
Little did he know that in the afternoon, Su Shiming would get into an argument with customers in the store.
Here’s what happened: a middle-aged couple, who couldn’t get an appointment with Fu Tinghua, came into the shop.
At first, they wandered around the store, not buying anything—just browsing.
Su Shiming was alone in the shop at the time. Wen Qing and Fu Yanju had gone back to make dinner, while Su He had taken the two kids to a nearby park to play.
They had been so busy lately that there was hardly any time to spend with the children, so she took the chance to take them out.
Little did she know that shortly after she left, the couple arrived.
Su Shiming watched them wander aimlessly without buying anything but didn’t think much of it, focusing instead on ringing up customers.
Just as he was finishing up, the two suddenly approached him and asked, “Is this the shop owned by that doctor who made the papers?”
Su Shiming almost said, “It’s my daughter’s.”
But then he thought—what’s the difference? His daughter’s shop is his son-in-law’s too. So he nodded and said yes.
Unexpectedly, the couple suddenly acted smug.
“Hmph, with such flashy decor, this shop must be raking in a fortune, huh?” the woman suddenly remarked, catching Su Shiming off guard.
“The decor is mainly to help customers find what they need. Isn’t making money the point of any business?” Su Shiming replied with a polite smile.
“A crooked doctor,” the man abruptly spat out, causing Su Shiming’s expression to darken.
“What did you just say?” he snapped at the man.
“Oh, did I say something wrong? If he’s not a black-hearted doctor, then what is? Who knows how much dirty money he’s taken?” the woman added.
“If you keep slandering him, I’ll sue you for defamation! Every penny my son-in-law earns is well-deserved. He’s an upright and honest man, and I won’t tolerate anyone spreading wild accusations about him!” Su Shiming was so furious his nose flared in anger.
The student he had painstakingly mentored—how could he allow such baseless accusations?
“Who’s spreading lies? His medical skills are a hack—it’s all over town! Still trying to fool us? Couldn’t even get an appointment—turns out he’s just a fraud. What a scam!”
Ah, so they were just angry about not getting an appointment and came looking for trouble.
“Whether his skills are overrated isn’t for you to judge. If you don’t like him, go see another doctor. There’s no need to come here and slander him,” Su Shiming retorted, managing to calm down slightly.
Su He had warned him before that this matter might not be simple and that troublemakers could show up.
At the time, Su Shiming hadn’t taken it seriously. Who knew it would happen so soon?
“Who’s slandering? Why was the People’s Hospital sealed off by the police the other day? Everyone knows it was because of that doctor—peddling false hope when he couldn’t even treat the patient. If you can’t handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen! Do what you’re capable of—isn’t this just deceiving the public?”
That single remark reignited Su Shiming’s barely contained anger.
“What nonsense are you spouting? Patients who’ve been treated by my son-in-law know exactly how skilled he is. Oh, so just because you couldn’t get an appointment, you’re throwing a tantrum?”
Poor Su Shiming, a mild-mannered teacher, wasn’t one for curses.
Their shouting match quickly drew the attention of other customers in the store and passersby on the street.
Loving to watch the spectacle is a national trait, and soon, a large crowd of onlookers gathered around the supermarket.
Seeing more and more people, Su Shiming thought this was not good for business, so he hurriedly tried to disperse them.
"Everyone, please move along, there's nothing to see here," Su Shiming urged the onlookers.
But this action immediately gave the couple an opening, and they said, "He's afraid; it's because he's in the wrong. And that doctor's father-in-law isn't any better either."
Su Shiming was greatly angered by these words; when had he ever been cursed at to his face?
Because he had always been a teacher, people generally respected him.
Even with some conflicts with neighbors, no one had ever dared to point their finger at him and curse like this.
"What are you talking about?!" Su Shiming's face turned red with anger.
"Aren't you the one being talked about? Can you say your son-in-law's medical skills are flawless? If there were no problems, why would the patient's family be so angry they want to kill someone? Dare you say it?"
The couple seemed well-prepared, relentless in their accusations.
Just as Su Shiming was about to retort, several police officers burst in.
"Move, move, move," Captain Liu led the way, dispersing the onlookers.
"The police are here, the police are here."
"Make way, make way."
Seeing that the police had arrived, those at the front quickly moved aside, but they were reluctant to give up their prime spots for the spectacle.
Without hesitation, Captain Liu directly pulled out handcuffs and cuffed the couple who had been spreading malicious rumors.
As they were being led away to the police station by the officers, the two were still stunned.
“Wait, what gives you the right to arrest us?” the man continued to shout.
“Suspected of being foreign spies, maliciously spreading rumors and slandering our nation’s skilled professionals,” Captain Liu said with a cold laugh.
“What kind of skilled professional is he? Just a doctor, who does he think he is!” Even while being restrained by the police, the man still dared to spout such arrogant words.
Captain Liu shot him a sharp glance, and immediately, one of the officers stepped forward to silence the man.
They had initially intended to gag the woman as well, but unexpectedly, she looked at Captain Liu with an ingratiating smile and said, “I’ll keep quiet, I won’t say a word.”
Captain Liu gave them a hard look before finally ordering, “Take them to the car. We’ll question them properly later.”
“Yes, sir!”
Leaving the suspects under the watch of his subordinates, Captain Liu then returned to Su He’s shop to reassure Su Shiming.
“Are you alright, sir? You're not hurt? Do you need to go to the hospital for a check-up?” Captain Liu asked Su Shiming with concern.
If any injuries were found during the examination, it would be the couple’s responsibility, and they would naturally have to compensate.
Coming to the shop unprovoked, causing trouble, and hurling insults—
Su Shiming was taken aback by the unexpected concern. He... he didn't even know this officer, so why was he being so concerned about him?
