Chapter 505: Finally Left
by 范氏女子Chapter 505: Finally Gone
Wen Qing was called to wake Niu Niu up. As soon as she entered the room, she found no one on the bed and hurried outside in a panic to search for him.
Seeing Niu Niu actually talking to Gu Yanzhi, she quickly stepped forward, scooped Niu Niu into her arms, and turned to walk toward the hearth room.
But just then, Wen Qing was stopped by Gu Yanzhi.
"You are—Dr. Fu's mother-in-law, right?" Gu Yanzhi asked.
Wen Qing wasn't in the mood to deal with him. This man had caused so much suffering for her son-in-law’s real mother, and as a woman herself, she naturally disapproved of him.
But seeing him now with an injured foot, bandaged and pale, she couldn’t help feeling a pang of pity for him.
After hesitating for a moment, Wen Qing replied, "Yes."
Gu Yanzhi then gave a friendly smile and said, "That’s good. You’ve raised your children well."
Who doesn’t like to hear their child praised? But thinking about how that Fang character had dared to belittle her daughter, Wen Qing was still upset.
"Hah, no matter how well my daughter was raised, she’s still just a woman, destined to become a worn-out housewife, stuck bearing kids, doing laundry, and cooking for a man," Wen Qing retorted sarcastically.
It was a mother’s instinctive defense against the unfairness her child faced. Even if the person standing before her was a general, she wasn't afraid.
And—it was hard to imagine that if Fu Tinghua were to acknowledge this man, he would become Su He’s father-in-law.
The irony.
Gu Yanzhi, looking at the angry woman before him, couldn’t help but feel awkward.
Although those words weren’t spoken by him, they came from his subordinate, and he felt responsible for his failure to rein in his men.
"I apologize for those words," Gu Yanzhi said to Wen Qing earnestly.
Niu Niu, watching the grandfather before him, somehow began to feel a little sorry for him.
But he had hurt his parents and his new grandma—that was unforgivable.
"Grandma, let’s go, go, go!" Niu Niu said "go" three times, showing how eager he was to leave.
Seeing this, Gu Yanzhi didn’t try to stop them any further, though a trace of unspoken exhaustion flickered in his eyes.
"General, we must leave now. Squad Fang—Squad Fang won’t make it if he doesn’t receive treatment soon," the old military doctor urgently stepped forward and said.
"Won’t make it?" Gu Yanzhi asked in surprise.
"Yes, he’s on the verge of dying. We need to get to Wencheng immediately for treatment."
The nearest city from here was Wencheng.
So Wencheng was the only choice.
Gu Yanzhi shot a longing glance toward the hearth room. Even now, Lan Ruolin hadn’t come out to see him.
It was true—she really couldn’t be bothered about his injury at all.
"Let’s go," Gu Yanzhi said, as if finally resigning himself.
"Yes, and with the New Year approaching, the old man has been urging you to return," Captain Wang suddenly added.
They have always had a direct line to Kyoto, and Old Man Gu has been urging Gu Yanzhi to return for the New Year.
The New Year is not only important to ordinary people but also to old-school families like the Gu family.
Gu Yanzhi sighed and said, "Let's go, first to Wen City, then back to Kyoto."
And so, this group of people who had suddenly showed up in Shangyao Village just slipped away one regular morning.
Hearing the ruckus outside, Su He asked, "Have the people outside left?"
"They're gone, yeah, they’re gone—cleared out," Su Shiming replied before stepping outside to check. "They're gone, all of them."
"It's good that they're gone, especially that Fang jerk," Su Shiming couldn't help but complain.
Thinking of Fang Zhigang's injuries, he wondered if he would even make it to New Year’s.
"Let's not worry about them. It's best if they don't disturb our lives," Fu Tinghua said calmly.
Just as the family was having breakfast, Wu Yanhua and the others stopped by.
"Oh, have those people left?" Wu Yanhua asked.
After looking around, she didn't see their cars.
"They're gone, they're gone. If you had come half an hour earlier, you would have seen them," Wen Qing replied with a smile.
Everyone let out a sigh of relief now that the group had finally left.
"Last night was so intense. After I went back, I kept thinking about what I said, and the more I thought about it, the more I realized how bold I was," Wu Yanhua said, patting her chest, still shook.
"It's okay, Mom. What's done is done. There's no need to keep dwelling on it," Su He said, worried that she might work herself up.
"Hey, but I can't help it. I was such a badass last night," she said, making everyone laugh.
Wu Yanhua glanced at Miss Lan and couldn't resist asking, "Miss Lan, are you really not going back with him? After all, he tracked you all the way out here. He doesn't seem like he doesn't care about you. If he really didn't care, would he have come so far?"
This was something not only Wu Yanhua wondered about but everyone else as well.
Judging by Gu Yanzhi's demeanor, it really didn't seem like he didn't care about Lan Ruolin.
"I'm not going back. I’d rather die than go back," Lan Ruolin shook her head firmly.
Life outside is so much better. The icy, stiff courtyard of the Gu family just felt wrong, everywhere.
