Chapter 95: Exposed
by 范氏女子Chapter 95: The Truth Comes Out
"You... you’ve changed so much!" Zhu Yurong said awkwardly. "I... I didn’t recognize you at first, sorry."
Now Fu Tinghua was the surprised one.
To his knowledge, the nurses’ and doctors’ dorms weren’t close. He remembered Su He hardly ever went out, so how did the two of them know each other?
"You know each other?" Fu Tinghua asked.
He felt a flicker of relief—now Su He probably wouldn’t misunderstand him anymore.
Su He didn’t answer Fu Tinghua’s question. Instead, she turned to the two children and said, "Mom and Dad need to talk. Why don’t you go inside and play for a bit?"
The kids weren’t interested in the adults’ dull chatter, so they obediently went into the living room.
There were some things Su He didn’t want to do in front of the children—not wanting to corrupt them.
Smiling sweetly, Su He looked at Zhu Yurong and said, "Oh, we’re way past ‘knowing each other.’ Nurse Zhu is actually a good friend of mine. She introduced me to a whole crowd of ‘friends.’"
Realizing Su He was digging up the past, Zhu Yurong’s heart jumped to her throat.
"What ‘friends’? I just took you out to cheer you up," Zhu Yurong quickly interjected.
"True, but the places you and your friends took me were indeed quite entertaining. After going once, I couldn’t stop wanting to go back," Su He said with ice-cold sarcasm.
Fu Tinghua’s frown deepened—something wasn’t adding up. He asked, "Where did she take you?"
"I— *I didn’t*—"
Before Zhu Yurong could finish, Su He immediately turned to Fu Tinghua and said, "I didn’t know before that Nurse Zhu was so *friendly* with you and even so... attentive toward you.
Back then, she took the initiative to befriend me and introduced me to a whole crowd of ‘friends.’ You know how busy you were at the time, and I was all alone with no one to keep me company, so..."
Su He let the words hang, her expression conflicted as she glanced at Zhu Yurong.
"So what? Spit it out," Fu Tinghua demanded, his brows furrowed in displeasure.
He knew Su He wouldn’t beat around the bush like this unless something serious had happened.
"I... Dr. Fu, don’t listen to her nonsense! I didn’t do anything!" Zhu Yurong stammered, flustered—Su He was really about to expose everything.
Flustered, Zhu Yurong glared at Su He and said haughtily, "Remember who reached out when you had *no one*?"
Back then, Su He had been so grateful to her, treating this "friend" like a lifeline.
Even now, Zhu Yurong still acted like Su He should be *grateful* for her attention.
"I haven’t even said anything yet. Why so jumpy?"
Su He studied the young woman before her. Despite her youth, she was alarmingly cunning.
She couldn’t let this viper keep coiling around Fu Tinghua—people like her were the most unpredictable.
So Su He stopped holding back and laid everything out plainly.
"After you left for the military, it was her—she drew me into underground gambling rings and bled me dry of every last cent of the money you gave me before you left."
She didn’t believe Fu Tinghua was unaware of the original host’s gambling habits. He had just stopped mentioning it after seeing her behave herself.
Sure enough, upon hearing that it was Zhu Yurong who had taken Su He to the casino, Fu Tinghua's gaze toward Zhu Yurong instantly turned icy cold.
Afraid that not only would she fail to seduce Fu Tinghua but also lose her job, Zhu Yurong lost her composure.
She stammered nervously, "That’s not true! Don’t buy her story. What proof does she have that I took her gambling? Clearly, she’s just a bad apple—who could force her to gamble if she didn’t want to? Dr. Fu, don’t believe her!"
If it had been the Su He from before, Fu Tinghua might have doubted her words.
But now, Fu Tinghua knew the Su He before him was not the same as before, and with his heart entirely devoted to her, he couldn’t tolerate anyone speaking ill of her.
So, in an icy tone, he shot back at Zhu Yurong, "Shut up! My wife grew up in the city. If she truly had a gambling problem, she would have started long ago. It was you—you deliberately came onto her."
Flabbergasted by Fu Tinghua’s staunch defense of Su He, Zhu Yurong was about to retort when Su He spoke again.
"You want proof? Fine. Let’s go to that casino on Cross Street right now and see if anyone recognizes you."
At these words, Zhu Yurong immediately swallowed whatever she had been about to say.
Because she had once been involved with one of the casino’s partners—many people there knew her. She didn’t dare confront them.
"I... Dr. Fu, Su He was the one who said she was bored and wanted to find somewhere to have fun. I only took her to look around—she was the one who chose to gamble. Really!"
Zhu Yurong was fighting back tears. The Su He of the past had been tongue-tied and dim-witted—why had she suddenly become so quick on her feet, leaving her speechless?
"Get out. Don’t show your face here again." Fu Tinghua couldn’t hide his disgust as he looked at Zhu Yurong. This woman was clearly up to no good.
Her approach to Su He had likely been deliberate.
And her flattery toward him had started soon after he joined the hospital.
"I... Dr. Fu, could you cut me some slack? I really need this job." Zhu Yurong began pulling the victim card.
Being a nurse and having a secure government position was a dream for many rural girls.
She didn’t want to lose her job and be forced back into backbreaking farm work.
"Are you still not leaving?" Fu Tinghua didn’t answer her plea, instead shooing her away.
Seeing his ruthlessness, Zhu Yurong didn’t dare say another word. She hurried out of the courtyard like the devil was on her heels.
As she watched Zhu Yurong scurry away, Su He’s eyes were equally cold.
Coming back to herself, she noticed Fu Tinghua staring at her.
Su He: "..."
She cleared her throat uncomfortably, then lowered her head like a child who had done something wrong. "I won’t gamble again, I promise."
"I know," Fu Tinghua said firmly.
"Huh?" Su He was surprised by his unwavering trust.
"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure she’s transferred out of our hospital," Fu Tinghua said calmly.
Transferring some lowly nurse was child’s play for someone in his position as Deputy Director.
At that, Su He nodded. "Fine, it’s your call."
She was no Mother Teresa—why would she plead for Zhu Yurong?
Moreover, her original intention was to prevent that woman from hanging around Fu Tinghua any longer.
She might not care about Fu Tinghua, but she feared this scheming, two-faced woman might harbor ill intentions toward the two children.
This person had deceived the original Su He into gambling, leaving the two children going hungry and shivering in rags.
To be honest, as bad as Su He was, she had never deprived the children of food as long as she had money.
But once the gambling addiction took hold, the two children were plunged into a living hell.
