Chapter 76: Let’s Part Amicably, Let’s Divorce
by 范氏女子Chapter 76 Let’s End This Amicably—Let’s Get a Divorce
If it had been the original host in the past, she would have been overjoyed to hear Fu Tinghua take the initiative to suggest sharing a bed with her.
But the current Su He was a different person now. The idea of sharing a bed with a man who was virtually a stranger was unacceptable to her.
"I..."
Just as Su He was struggling with how to refuse Fu Tinghua, he suddenly shifted his tone and added, "Or should I go sleep at my mother’s house? They’ve always kept my room there for me."
Almost as soon as Fu Tinghua finished speaking, Su He immediately replied, "That works."
Her response was so quick that both of them were momentarily stunned, and Su He awkwardly averted her gaze.
The atmosphere instantly became piercingly awkward, as if even the air had stilled.
Su He almost wanted to slap herself for speaking so hastily and briefly considered slapping her own mouth a few times.
"So, you want to avoid sharing a bed with me forever?"
Fu Tinghua’s chilling tone cut through the thick tension between them.
Had he noticed? Of course he had—she had been so obvious that even an idiot would have picked up on it.
"I..."
As if suddenly reaching a decision, Su He steeled herself and locked eyes with Fu Tinghua.
It wasn’t just about her—he had never had any feelings for the original host either. So, if she brought up divorce now, would he agree?
"Fu Tinghua, I’ve actually been wanting to have a proper talk with you."
Su He took a deep breath and continued, "Our marriage was entirely because of the children. And you—you were coerced into marrying me.
During the year you were away, I did a lot of soul-searching.
Forced affection isn’t sweet. Since you don’t like me, I won’t force it anymore. Let’s end this amicably—let’s get a divorce."
Su He summoned her resolve and proposed divorce to Fu Tinghua.
She wasn’t the original woman. Aside from appreciating his looks and principles, she didn’t have feelings for him.
Avoiding a future where they’d have to share a bed out of conjugal duty was not something Su He wanted.
She also didn’t believe that, for the sake of the children, she should sleep with a man she had no emotional connection with.
After hearing Su He’s words, Fu Tinghua didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he pierced her with his gaze, as if trying to lay her bare.
There it was again—that suffocating pressure.
Being around him always made Su He feel as if she were being laid bare, which was why she wanted to avoid Fu Tinghua in the first place.
"You want a divorce?" Fu Tinghua asked calmly.
"Yes," Su He gave a resolute nod.
His lips twisted into a frosty smile as he said, "The last time Su He brought this up, she said over her dead body—there was no way she’d divorce me."
Su He’s heart seemed to slam like a gunshot, plunging her into panic.
What did Fu Tinghua mean by that?
"Let’s just pretend I never heard that." With that, Fu Tinghua went back to cleaning the kitchen.
Staring at his unfairly handsome side profile, Su He’s mind went blank for a second.
"Su He." Suddenly, Fu Tinghua called her name again.
"Hm?" Su He replied blankly.
"Let’s make this work from now on." Fu Tinghua turned and said earnestly.
Make this work? Was he saying what she thought he was?
"I..." Su He fumbled for a reply.
"I’ll stay at my parents’ tonight. We’ll take our time."
Fu Tinghua’s eyes softened, and for a moment, Su He second-guessed herself—did Fu Tinghua actually like the original owner of this body?
Otherwise, why? It’s not like he liked *her*, right?
"Okay," Su He replied.
Whatever. She’d just go along with it.
At least she wouldn’t have to share a bed.
Su He had always figured they’d just tolerate each other for the kids’ sake—no strings attached.
She didn’t need a man—she’d built her own damn life before, hadn’t she?
After they cleaned up, Fu Tinghua took a shower and left for the Fu family home.
Zai Zai and Niu Niu watched their dad’s lonely back as he left. "Why isn’t Daddy sleeping at home?"
Su He hesitated—she couldn’t exactly say, ‘Your dad and I aren’t sleeping together.’
That’d break Ji Liangchuan’s heart.
So Su He lied—her first time deceiving the kids. "Grandpa and Grandma miss him, so he’s staying over."
The kids didn’t question it and went to bed after bath time.
"Niu Niu, do you want to sleep with Mommy or with your brothers?" Su He asked, stroking her daughter's hair.
"I want to sleep with my brothers," Niu Niu answered.
Su He paused.
She’d just move Niu Niu to her own bed later.
They were just kids, but she wasn’t about to let her guard down with her daughter.
While Su He showered, the kids bounced on the bed, giggling.
"Zai Zai! Niu Niu! This bed’s the best!"
Ji Liangchuan was spending the night at someone else's house for the first time, with friends to keep him company, making him the most excited one.
"Mom prepared it, it's super cozy!" Niu Niu answered while jumping on the bed.
The mattress, quilt, and bedsheets were all traded from the [system] space, so of course they were comfortable.
"It's time to sleep. If Mom comes back and sees we're still awake, she’ll be upset," Zai Zai reminded from the side.
The other two kids immediately obeyed and lay down on the bed.
"Let's play 'Red Light, Green Light' to see who falls asleep first," Niu Niu said, not giving the two boys a chance to react before declaring, "Red Light, Green Light!"
After saying that, she closed her eyes and didn't move anymore.
Zai Zai and Ji Liangchuan: [silent stare].
This was Zai Zai and Niu Niu's go-to bedtime game, so every time Su He finished her tasks and returned to the room, the two kids were already out like a light.
This time was no different. After taking a relaxing bath and returning to the room, Su He saw the kids lying perfectly in bed, fast asleep.
And they were lined up perfectly—Niu Niu slept on the innermost side, Zai Zai in the middle, and Ji Liangchuan on the outside.
Seeing the innocent little ones like this, Su He dropped the idea of carrying Niu Niu to sleep in another room.
Eh, if they woke up tomorrow and didn’t see each other, they might be disappointed.
Once Su He lay down, she immediately logged into the [system] space and found the ginseng she had risked her neck to dig up.
Just as she was about to take a photo and post it on the forum, the system flagged a message stating that the item was found with the system's assistance and could only be exchanged within the space.
Su He: [silent sigh].
She knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.
But since she had indeed found the ginseng thanks to the system, Su He didn’t hesitate and traded it straight away, earning 500K points.
Thinking of the weird-looking flower she had previously posted on the forum, Su He still entered the system forum.
