Chapter 271: Look How Scared the Child Is
by 范氏女子Chapter 271: Look How You’re Scaring the Child
Watching this scene, Fu Wu was at his wit’s end.
"Mom! Can you please stop? Do you really want to break up my family before you're satisfied?"
Zhang Shufen felt a little guilty, but more than that, she was indignant.
"I worked so hard to raise you. Since you were little, I went without so you could have the best. Haven’t I been good enough to you? And now, for the sake of your wife, you’re starting to resent me, is that it?"
As she spoke, she began crying again.
Fu Wu didn’t know what to say.
But he was worn out, numb with exhaustion.
His father died young, and his mother had indeed suffered a lot, so he had always bitten his tongue and given in to her.
But—
"Mom, if you keep this up, Er Mei and I will move out and build a new house somewhere else." Fu Wu hardened his heart and dropped the bombshell.
The words hit Zhang Shufen like a blow.
There was no other way. If his mother kept causing drama like this, the family would truly fall apart.
When Fu Tinghua returned home, Su He was already asleep in bed.
She’d also had a long, tiring day.
In fact, every day was tiring, but Su He found this exhaustion felt rewarding, even satisfying.
Fu Tinghua walked to the bedside and gazed at Su He’s sleeping face. His earlier irritation faded into calm.
A moment later, the light flicked off.
The next morning, Su He awoke to Fu Tinghua still sleeping.
She had fallen asleep the night before and didn’t know when he had returned, so she figured she’d let him sleep in.
But just as she was about to climb over him to get out of bed, Fu Tinghua suddenly rolled over and trapped her under him.
Su He blinked. "Huh?"
"You faking sleep just now?" Su He asked, amused.
"No, I just... I’m a light sleeper—always on alert. Any movement wakes me up," Fu Tinghua murmured, his eyes still closed, responding instinctively.
His voice was rough with sleep, as if he hadn’t fully woken up yet.
"Ah? Is that a habit you’ve had since childhood?" Su He prodded.
Though Fu Tinghua had her pinned beneath him, he kept his weight off her, so Su He didn’t feel crushed.
"No, it’s from the two years I spent at the border. Back then, we had daily clashes with enemy forces, and tensions were high. At one point, it got so bad the enemy almost overran our post."
As he spoke, Fu Tinghua reached out and gently stroked Su He’s face, his touch was warm, affectionate.
"I see... Thank God you made it." Su He’s stomach twisted at the thought.
Fu Tinghua was able to earn honors and come back, which definitely wasn't simple. He must have brushed with death many times.
"Hmm, getting up already?"
As he spoke, Fu Tinghua suddenly pulled Su He on top of him.
"What are you doing?" Su He was startled by his action.
"Just stay with me a few more minutes."
After saying this, he pressed Su He's raised head firmly against his chest.
Su He: "......"
"Just sleep if you want. It's still early. By the way, what time are you going to give Tie Zhu his injection?"
Su He stopped resisting and took the opportunity to press herself fully against Fu Tinghua.
"I'll go soon. I'll get up with you. Just let me hold you a little longer."
Fu Tinghua kept his eyes closed, resting up, but his hand never stopped stroking Su He's head.
The two of them rarely had such cozy morning moments together.
Both were usually busy—one was usually gone before the other woke up.
"Alright, time to get up. I still need to fix breakfast."
Su He grabbed Fu Tinghua's wandering hand, trying to get up.
"Yeah, let's get up."
Fu Tinghua opened his eyes, wide awake now, not a hint of sleepiness left.
After washing up, Su He stayed home to fix breakfast while Fu Tinghua went to Fu Wu's house to give Tie Zhu his IV.
Fu Wu and Er Mei still had a lot of farm work to do, so even though their child was sick, they couldn't put off their harvest work.
So today, only Zhang Shufen was there to watch Tie Zhu.
As soon as Fu Tinghua walked in, he heard the voices of the grandmother and grandson.
"Grandma, I'm hungry, I'm hungry, I'm starving!" Tie Zhu whined, fidgeting impatiently.
"Dear, why don't you have some porridge? Grandma made some for you. Have a little?" Zhang Shufen coaxed.
"I don’t want porridge, it’s gross. Granny, I want meat, Granny—"
Hearing this, Fu Tinghua's good morning was ruined yet again by these two.
He was so done with this nonsense.
"If you're not afraid of dying, keep eating then," Fu Tinghua walked straight into Fu Wu's house and sneered coldly.
The moment Tie Zhu saw him, he hid behind Zhang Shufen, too scared to even breathe.
"If you can't control your mouth, then keep hurting then," Fu Tinghua added.
As he spoke, he pulled out the medicine he'd brought and hung it on the hook.
Tie Zhu was in better spirits today, but his face fell the moment he saw the needle.
"Grandma, I don’t want the shot," he pleaded with Zhang Shufen.
Zhang Shufen didn't want to upset Fu Tinghua at this point, so she coaxed, "You’ll feel better after the shot."
Fu Tinghua had no patience for indulging a stubborn child like Tie Zhu. Luckily, his own two children weren’t like this—otherwise, no matter how much Su He objected, he would’ve taught them a lesson.
"Come here," he said coldly to Tie Zhu.
Though Fu Tinghua was handsome, Tie Zhu saw none of that.
He was terrified of this stone-faced uncle who always seemed to give off a chill.
"Hurry up, or your uncle will lose his temper. Even I won’t be able to protect you then," Zhang Shufen added.
She had no other way with her grandson and had no choice but to use Fu Tinghua as a threat.
After all, Tie Zhu was scared of him.
Fu Tinghua didn’t speak—just one look was enough to make Tie Zhu obediently walk over for the shot.
When the needle pierced his skin, it hurt, but he didn’t dare let out a peep.
"Aunt, call me when the IV is almost done so I can remove the needle," Fu Tinghua said to Zhang Shufen after administering the IV.
"Oh, right," Zhang Shufen quickly replied.
Without another word to them, Fu Tinghua left for home.
Only after he was gone did Tie Zhu mutter, "Grandma, Uncle is so scary."
Zhang Shufen retorted impatiently, "If you keep misbehaving, I’ll call your uncle to deal with you next time. Now hurry up and eat your porridge—do you want your stomach to hurt like yesterday?"
With a sour face, Tie Zhu had no choice but to submit to Zhang Shufen feeding him the porridge.
