Chapter 504: You’re Bad, I Won’t Talk to You

"What are you doing here?" A voice interrupted Zai Zai's thoughts.
He turned around and saw Fu Tinghua standing behind him, giving a cold stare at Gu Yanzhi. Fu Tinghua then walked over, picked Zai Zai up, and carried him back to the kitchen.
Seeing his father's frosty expression, Zai Zai felt a little scared instinctively.
"Dad, I'm sorry," Zai Zai said softly.
"No need to apologize. He's not a good person—stay away from him," Fu Tinghua patted his son's back, instinctively comforting him.
"Mhm," Zai Zai responded, wrapping his arms tightly around Fu Tinghua's neck.
In this lifetime, having his mom, dad, and sister was enough. He couldn’t worry about anyone else.
By the time Wen Qing and Lan Ruolin woke up, Fu Tinghua was almost done making breakfast.
"Oh, what's going on? Ting Hua, why did you wake up so early?" Wen Qing quickly asked.
Although they had said they couldn’t sleep last night, both she and Lan Ruolin—whether because they were tired or just easygoing—had slept until now.
The most easygoing of all was Su Shiming, whose snoring could still be heard.
"It's nothing, I woke up early so I just got up," Fu Tinghua said with a smile.
"Aiyo, leave this kind of thing to me in the future," Wen Qing insisted.
"Mom, have you forgotten what we said? When you come back for the New Year, just relax and let me and Su He take care of you," Fu Tinghua replied with a smile.
"Aiyo, how can that be? Besides, Su He doesn't wake up this early—you’re the one doing all the work." Though she said this, the way Wen Qing's lips were curled up made her words less convincing.
"It's fine. Her liking to sleep is a good thing—better than insomnia. I got used to it when I was on border duty; my sleep habits never changed. Besides, Su He makes most of the lunches and dinners, so it’s only fair that I make breakfast," Fu Tinghua said calmly.
Wen Qing looked at Fu Tinghua, and couldn't be more satisfied.
Just then, Su He showed up late, yawning.
"Oh, is the food ready?" she asked casually as she walked over to Fu Tinghua.
"Yes, it’s ready. Just go wash your face," Fu Tinghua said, his eyes noticeably softening at the sight of Su He.
"Alright, I’m hungry anyway." As Su He was about to go wash her face, she suddenly remembered Gu Yanzhi and the others still in the living room.
"Oh, by the way, have they left yet?" Su He asked.
"Not yet."
"Okay."
Su He didn’t plan to meddle—it was just a casual question.
But no one noticed that Niu Niu, who had just woken up, had also wandered to the living room where Gu Yanzhi was.
She had dressed herself, but her clothes were mismatched and her shoes were on the wrong foot, making her look quite comical.
Even so, none of it made her any less cute.
Gu Yanzhi’s eyes brightened at the sight of Niu Niu, and he immediately greeted her, "Well hello there, little girl," he said.
But who would have thought that upon seeing Gu Yanzhi, Niu Niu didn’t look happy at all.
"You’re a bad person. I don’t wanna talk to you."
She had seen everything last night—this grandpa had spoken very harshly to the new grandma.
The new grandma doted on Niu Niu so much, and Niu Niu liked the new grandma a lot too. This grandpa was a big meanie, and she didn’t want to have anything to do with him.
"Hmph, I don’t wanna talk to you." Just as Niu Niu was about to leave, an anxious Gu Yanzhi stopped her.
"Little girl, wait a moment."
Niu Niu turned back to look at Gu Yanzhi, her grumpy face seemingly a bit unhappy as she asked, "What do you want, bad grandpa?"
Gu Yanzhi found it somewhat amusing, thinking that he must have been too stern last night and scared her.
"How am I a bad grandpa?" Gu Yanzhi asked, amused.
"You were mean to the new grandma—that makes you a bad guy. The new grandma is so gentle; that’s no way to treat her. Hmph, Niu Niu doesn’t like talking to bad people, so you’re a bad grandpa."
Wow, she made a pretty solid case.
But sometimes, it’s children’s words that hit home the most, and Gu Yanzhi actually started thinking.
Even a child felt that he treated Lan Ruolin poorly—so was he really that much of a jerk day-to-day?
