Chapter 419: The Considerate Him
by 范氏女子Chapter 419: His Thoughtfulness
They’d just said this year’s snow would come soon, and sure enough, it came unexpectedly fast—it started snowing heavily on the second Friday night.
It was already mid-December, and while everyone was deep in sleep, the snow quietly descended.
Su He kept feeling colder as she slept, instinctively pressing closer to Fu Tinghua.
Half-asleep, she just gravitated toward the warmth.
For the first time, Fu Tinghua experienced what it felt like to be squeezed like an octopus, waking him in the middle of the night.
In the silent darkness of the room, his keen ears picked up the faint sound of snow hitting the branches outside.
It’s snowing?
Fu Tinghua wanted to get up and check, but the moment he moved, Su He clung to him even tighter.
Seeing how clingy she was, he couldn’t help but let out a soft, helpless laugh.
Turning his head, he noticed that Su He had somehow shoved the other blanket to the foot of the bed—no wonder she was so cold that she had snuggled right up to him.
Winter was freezing, so Su He had prepared two blankets for everyone in the family.
The inner layer was a fleece blanket, while the outer layer was an ordinary quilt.
Su He must’ve kicked the top quilt off, likely because she felt too warm in her sleep and sleepily pushed it away.
Fu Tinghua gave her back a gentle rub and kissed her forehead to calm her before carefully pulling the other blanket back over her.
As the snowfall grew heavier outside, he grew concerned about the two children in the next room and decided to check on them.
As the warmth beside her disappeared, Su He instinctively curled into a ball.
After putting on his coat, Fu Tinghua felt a pang of tenderness as he looked at her, making sure she was bundled up before heading to the children’s room.
Both kids were sound asleep, far less fidgety than their mom—neither had kicked off their blankets.
Especially Niu Niu, who was usually restless in summer but now lay curled up motionless, likely because of the cold.
Fu Tinghua first felt Niu Niu’s hand and found it warm, putting his mind at ease.
Then he felt for Zai Zai’s hand, but the moment his fingers brushed his son’s hand, Zai Zai jerked slightly, then blinked awake.
"Dad?" Zai Zai called out.
"Yeah, it’s snowing. I came to check if you and your sister are covered properly," Fu Tinghua whispered.
He stroked his son’s head and said softly, "Go back to sleep, buddy. I’ll head back too."
Zai Zai’s palm was also warm, so Fu Tinghua felt at ease.
"Mm, thanks, Dad," Zai Zai suddenly said.
Fu Tinghua gave a quiet laugh and ruffled his hair. "What for?"
Still half-asleep, Zai Zai mumbled, "That you’re still here."
Amused, Fu Tinghua patted his head again, but then, like something just occurred to him, his fingers paused.
It was just a matter of seconds before he regained his composure and said to Zai Zai with a smile, "Go back to sleep, Daddy's heading back."
"Mm-hmm," Zai Zai replied, and surprisingly, he really fell asleep again.
Fu Tinghua pulled the blankets snugly around both kids once more and made sure the window was shut tight before returning to his own room.
Back in the room, seeing that Su He hadn’t woken up, Fu Tinghua sighed in relief.
Since he’d been up so long, his body was now chilled, and he figured Su He wouldn’t snuggle up to him.
After reaching the window, Fu Tinghua gently pushed it open a crack, letting a gust of cold air in that sent a shiver through him.
Though the sky was still pitch black, the pale moonlight and snow’s reflected glow allowed him to see the scene outside clearly.
Pure white snowflakes drifted down one after another, light and beautiful, like angel-scattered feathers.
Snow piled up layer by layer, quickly forming a thick blanket.
Some snowflakes landed on tree branches, bending them slightly under their weight.
Others floated onto the roof, snuggling against the roof tiles as if crowning the house with a white hat.
Still others fell straight to the ground with a soft rustling sound, swiftly melting into the silvery blanket below.
The entire world was enveloped in this pure white snow, appearing extraordinarily peaceful and serene.
Though everything looked so beautiful, the sight of the endless snow stirred a flicker of worry in Fu Tinghua’s heart.
He remembered that when he was very young, there had also been a massive snowstorm.
Many people had died because of that snowstorm.
He hoped this snowfall wouldn’t last too long.
After closing the window again, Fu Tinghua finally got into bed.
He’d thought Su He would roll away from him, given how cold he was, but to his surprise, she snuggled right back.
"Dr. Fu?" Su He mumbled drowsily.
"Mm-hmm, I'm here."
Fu Tinghua quickly pulled Su He close, and the moment their skin touched, he was surprised to find that she wasn’t much warmer than he was.
This left him feeling helpless and heartbroken, his brows furrowing involuntarily.
When it came to Su He’s strange condition, Fu Tinghua was at a bit of a loss.
He had already taken her to the hospital for a thorough check-up, and the results showed no actual health problems.
So why, especially in the cold winter months when she slept alone, did her hands and feet grow icy, as if frostbitten, no matter what?
As he gently rubbed Su He’s cold hands, trying to share his warmth, he pondered whether there were other ways to improve her condition.
He reached out to touch her feet—they were ice-cold too.
Fu Tinghua: "..."
Fine, no more midnight trips for him.
Su He probably felt a slight itch on her foot and impatiently kicked, knocking Fu Tinghua's hand away.
Charmed by this cute display, Fu Tinghua let out a muffled chuckle before hugging Su He and giving her cheek a soft kiss.
Perhaps annoyed by the tickling sensations on both her foot and face, Su He lost her temper and smacked him out of nowhere—the sharp "smack" left Fu Tinghua stunned.
Since she was asleep, it didn't pack much force, but it was the first time Fu Tinghua had ever been slapped—and by his own wife, no less.
He gave her a resigned look, then leaned close to her ear and whispered, "I’ll forgive you since you’re already fast asleep."
Su He, now bothered by the tickling in her ear as well, turned away in displeasure, letting go of Fu Tinghua.
Having his wife out of his arms just wouldn't do.
Fu Tinghua wrapped his arms around her from behind, and this time, he finally stopped fussing and slept peacefully.
