Chapter 418 Why Does Food Taste Better at Su He’s Place?

Hearing Niu Niu’s words, everyone at the table fell silent for a few seconds.

Then, Su He suddenly let out a snort of laughter.

    "Hahaha..."

The others found it amusing too, covering their mouths and laughing.

Fu Tinghua patted his daughter’s head, a faint smile on his lips, and comforted her, "You’re very smart too, you don’t need food to make you smarter."

In Fu Tinghua’s eyes, his daughter was indeed clever—no, "sharp-witted" might be a more accurate word to describe her.

Niu Niu didn’t quite understand why everyone was laughing, but she was happy because they were happy.

"Then the fish head can go to Brother. I won’t argue with him over it," Niu Niu said in her sweet, baby voice, sounding very serious.

"I don’t want it. I don’t like fish heads," Zai Zai replied immediately.

    Brother doesn’t like it?

Upon hearing this, Niu Niu immediately turned her big, hopeful eyes toward her grandfather, Su Shiming.

She still really wanted to get smarter, even though Daddy had already said she was smart.

Su Shiming looked at Niu Niu with a mix of amusement and resignation.

"Alright, alright, you can have it," Su Shiming said, placing the fish head into Niu Niu’s bowl.

Seeing such a big fish head, Su He grew a little worried—would her daughter know how to pick out the bones?

"Let Mommy take the meat off for you," Su He said, reaching for Niu Niu’s bowl.

But Niu Niu refused, shaking her head. "No, I can eat fish by myself."

Su He gave her a concerned glance and added, "Then be careful. Spit out any bones, okay?"

    "Got it, Mommy."

The family enjoyed the hotpot meal, the mood cheerful.

"It’s already December. Next month will be the New Year," Wen Qing mused.

Time flies—another year was coming to an end.

"Yeah, the shop’s been pretty busy lately. Seems like a lot of families are stocking up for the New Year," Su Shiming replied calmly after taking a sip of soup.

"What if we close the shop for about two weeks during the New Year and reopen after the Lantern Festival?" Su He suggested with a smile.

"Isn’t that too long? That’s over half a month. Besides, Ting Hua only gets a few days off, right? Aren’t you going with him then?" Su Shiming frowned.

Su He hesitated. "I just thought everyone could enjoy a long break. And it’s so cold during that time—wouldn’t it be nice to rest at home?"

She felt it’s freezing here in winter, and if they were going to take time off, they should rest properly.

"Su He’s right. Wencheng will probably still have snow then. It’s only fair to take that much time off," Fu Tinghua agreed with her suggestion.

"Right? With how cold it is, I bet it’ll snow soon, isn’t it?" Su He’s tone sounded weirdly excited.

"Of course I'm happy. Other than when traveling, Su He rarely sees snow.

As a southerner, who wouldn't be excited to see snow?

"It's coming. This year feels colder than any previous year. With this weather, snow can't be far away," Su Shiming remarked.

"Speaking of which, Su He, what about your sugar orange crop? Will they be affected if it snows?" Wen Qing asked with concern.

After all, when heavy snow comes, farmers suffer the most.

No matter what crops are grown, they're all affected to some extent.

Su He casually took the chicken Fu Tinghua had placed in her bowl and replied nonchalantly, "They won’t be affected, but the workers might be."

"Labor? How would labor be affected?" Wen Qing asked, puzzled.

"Of course it would. When it snows, the mountain roads get slippery, and it’s freezing. No one will want to go up to pick sugar oranges. So we'll probably have to pay workers more, and so sugar oranges will cost more too."

Though Su He loves snow, it does cut into her profits some.

But it’s fine—the sugar orange harvest is nearly done anyway. They’ve been selling for over a month, and they'll be done by early January.

"Oh no, another price hike?" Wen Qing couldn’t help but feel distressed.

She used to wish her boss would pay her more, but now that her daughter is the boss, every expense makes her heart ache for Su He.

Su He, however, was philosophical about it and smiled. "It’s unavoidable. Besides, those workers have it so hard—they deserve to be paid right, don’t they?"

"Su He’s right. We've got to do right by people, shouldn't we?" Su Shiming said slowly as he crunched on some cartilage.

This bone is especially good today.

As expected, nothing beats eating at his daughter's.

For some reason, every time he eats at Su He’s home, the food tastes so much better, and he always ends up having an extra bowl of rice.

Even Wen Qing has joked there must be something wrong with their home-cooked meals, since they never eat as much there as they do at Su He’s.

The cooking method is the same, but the ingredients are prepared by Su He, whereas at home, they buy everything from the market.

Wen Qing herself has noticed that Su He's meat and veggies just taste better.

What they don’t know is that many of Su He’s ingredients come from her space.

For example, pigs raised nowadays, though fed wild vegetables foraged from the mountains, aren’t raised as well as in later times.

The pork now still has a slight gamey taste—not too strong, but nowhere near as good as the meat Su He provides.

Worried that the goods from her space might be full of artificial additives, Su He even asked the system customer service.

The customer service confirmed that while some products do contain additives, there are also genuinely farm-raised pigs fed without commercial feed—though that pork costs more.

Su He has points to spare now, so she always exchanges for the best quality meat.

Naturally, everyone at home is completely satisfied with the food.

But Fu Tinghua knows that many of Su He’s supplies likely come from that mysterious space.

He’s aware of it but never asks her about it directly.

If Su He was willing to tell him, he would listen; if not, he didn't mind. As long as Su He was by his side, nothing else mattered.

After dinner, the family took turns showering.

Now that the house was officially Fu Tinghua's, Su He had recently asked Yu Xu to come over and renovate the bathroom. At the time, there was no water heater or heat lamp, so they had to better insulate the bathroom to keep the cold air out.

Originally, the bathroom and toilet were combined, but Su He had them separated into dry and wet areas. She also installed a washbasin with a large mirror in front of it.

The family thought Su He was making such a big deal about a bathroom, calling it too fancy and complicated.

Despite their complaints, everyone loved using it immensely and even started showering more often.
