Chapter 368: Regretful Exit
by 范氏女子Chapter 368: A Regretful Exit
Xia Miao's expression changed slightly as she looked cautiously at Su He and said, "He knows about it. Before I agreed to be with him, I told him I had someone else in my heart. He said he didn’t mind and was willing to wait for me."
Su He fell silent.
This girl—she’d already shown her hand.
If they ever got married, it would be fine if the man had good character. But if not, he might hold this against Xia Miao for the rest of her life.
"What’s wrong? Sister Su, don’t you want me to be with my current boyfriend?" Seeing Su He’s troubled expression, Xia Miao couldn’t help but ask cautiously.
"I think this decision of yours is a little reckless. But what’s done is done, there’s no point saying anything now." Su He didn’t know what else to say. Why were other people’s love lives always so complicated?
"If he doesn’t like me, I won’t chase after him anymore. I’ll just jump into marriage and leave myself no way out," Xia Miao said with a hint of sarcasm.
Because only by getting married might she truly let go of Xia Chengan.
She knew there was no chance left for her and Xia Chengan.
"Xia Miao, I think all the decisions you’ve made recently have been impulsive. Cool off first before making any big moves," Su He advised.
"Mm, I’ll think it over. Sister Su, thank you."
"No need. I didn’t really help anyway," Su He sighed.
Honestly, the relationship between Xia Miao and Xia Chengan had been rocky from the start.
They were such a stark contrast to the bride and groom at today’s wedding.
After some small talk, Xia Miao left, as the banquet was about to begin and she needed to return to her seat.
By the time Fu Tinghua returned with the two kids, Xia Miao had already gone.
"Xia Miao really has a boyfriend now?" Fu Tinghua asked as soon as he sat down.
"Yes, she said she agreed to be with someone, but I think she’s mostly acting out of spite," Su He sighed.
Fu Tinghua had assumed Xia Miao had just found someone to pretend to be her boyfriend in front of him. He hadn’t expected her to actually have a boyfriend now. If he found out, they’d probably panic, wouldn’t they?
"You spacing out?" Su He asked, noticing Fu Tinghua spacing out.
"Nothing. Let’s eat."
The banquet was lavish. Rumor had it that the feast in Wencheng was only for friends and relatives in the city, while the groom would host another banquet in his hometown, Xinxu Town.
After the banquet ended, Su He and Fu Tinghua took Zai Zai and Niu Niu to Zhou Liqun and Xie Yunxin’s new home.
The house was allocated to Zhou Liqun by the police department, but he had unhesitatingly added extra money to choose a standalone house with its own courtyard.
The courtyard was spacious and comfortable, similar in size to the residence allocated to Fu Tinghua by the hospital.
Sunlight poured through the windows, filling the room with warmth and brightness.
Ms. Zhou grinned at the two little ones and called out warmly, "Come, come, my sweethearts! Kick off your shoes and bounce on the bed—go wild! You can roll around for a long time!"
At Grandma Zhou’s words, Niu Niu grew especially excited. In a flash, she crouched down, made quick work of her shoelaces, and parked her tiny shoes neatly by the bedside.
Then, like a sprightly bunny, she gathered her momentum and launched herself onto the big, soft bed in one go.
As soon as she got on the bed, Niu Niu couldn't wait to start rolling around, her little body wriggling and rolling happily across the bed, as if her carefree laughter was the only sound in the world.
Zai Zai: "......"
It wasn’t his fault he was little, so why did he always get stuck in these weird little rituals?
"Zai Zai, hurry up and get on the bed! Your little sister has done a few rolls already. Come on, take off your shoes and climb up!" Ms. Zhou urged again.
With no choice, Zai Zai took off his shoes and climbed onto the bed, rolling around just like Niu Niu, squirming into every corner of the bed.
"Aww, my sweet little darlings!" Ms. Zhou beamed as she gently stroked Niu Niu’s little head and asked eagerly, "Niu Niu, tell Auntie, do you think Auntie Xie’s baby will be a little brother or a little sister?"
The grown-ups all chuckled at the question, gathering around curiously, waiting for Niu Niu’s answer.
According to local customs, newlyweds often arrange for children to roll on their bed during weddings, and afterward, the children are asked to predict the gender of the couple’s future baby. It’s just a tradition, but it makes the wedding extra fun and sweet.
Niu Niu batted her big, shiny eyes, thought for a moment, and then piped up in her tiny voice, "A little brother!"
That got everyone laughing, with Ms. Zhou grinning like crazy and praising Niu Niu for being clever.
Then, Ms. Zhou turned her attention to Zai Zai, who’d been sitting quietly, asking kindly, "And what about you, Zai Zai? What do you think? Will Auntie Xie’s first baby be a brother or a sister?"
Zai Zai sighed to himself, thinking, *If I say sister, won’t that just make people sad?*
Even as a boy, he had to admit that people still favored boys way too much in this day and age. Thankfully, his mother, Su He, wasn’t like that at all—at home, both parents spoiled Niu Niu rotten compared to him.
"A boy," Zai Zai answered seriously.
"A boy! Did you hear that? It’s a boy!" Xie Yunxin’s mom lit up upon hearing both children predict a son. She even gave Zai Zai and Niu Niu lucky red envelopes.
Watching this joyous scene, Su He felt her heart melted a little.
Back at home, Fu Tinghua brought up Xia Miao and Xia Chengan again.
"If Xia Miao really marries her current boyfriend, then there’s probably no chance left with Xia Chengan."
Su He thought that was ridiculous.
"Xia Chengan has kept turning her down and breaking her heart. Why should she keep holding onto someone who keeps hurting her?" Su He frowned at Fu Tinghua.
"Well, this is indeed Xia Chengan’s fault. I’ll go give him a piece of my mind tomorrow and tell him Xia Miao is getting married."
Su He: "......"
"Is that really a good idea?" she asked helplessly.
"There’s nothing wrong with it. Xia Chengan needs a wake-up call," Fu Tinghua replied with a faint smirk.
Su He: "......"
*Since when did Dr. Fu develop such a mean sense of humor? Oh no.*
