Chapter 216: Don’t Follow, Rest Well, Okay?

At noon, Fu Tinghua returned home.
The patient at the hospital had passed the 24-hour critical period and was out of life-threatening danger, meaning they had fully recovered.
From then on, he only needed to drop by occasionally to check on them—the rest wasn’t his problem.
When he got home, Su He had just finished eating. She had packed a meal for Su Shiming and was about to take over for Fu Yanju so she could come home to eat.
She planned to let Fu Yanju come home for a lunch break from now on—otherwise, it would be too exhausting for her.
Fu Yanju’s job mostly involved standing, helping customers find products, and working as a store clerk. On top of that, she had to arrive early to stock shelves and keep track of what’s out of stock, so her days were exhausting enough as it was.
At noon, most people—whether working adults or children—were napping, so the supermarket wasn’t as busy. Su He could manage on her own.
"I’ll come give you a hand after I finish eating," Fu Tinghua suddenly said as Su He was about to leave.
"No, absolutely not. You need your rest—you still have work in the afternoon. I slept in past ten today, so I’m well-rested," Su He quickly refused.
Fu Tinghua: "......"
When he didn’t respond, she added, "Don’t follow me, get some rest, okay?"
She sounded like she was talking to a child. Was she treating him like Zai Zai and Niu Niu?
Fu Tinghua was torn between amusement and exasperation, but his expression remained neutral as he gave a stiff nod.
Seeing his less-than-happy demeanor, Su He coaxed, "Take it easy for the next few days, okay? Be good."
She seized the moment to mess up his hair—just for two seconds—before quickly walking away.
Fu Tinghua: "......"
Once she arrived at the store, Su He immediately told her father to go take his break and go eat.
Then, she hurried Fu Yanju home to rest.
Fu Yanju hesitated and asked, "Su He, are you sure you’ll be fine here alone?"
"Of course! Why wouldn’t I be?" Su He replied instantly.
Fu Yanju lingered, glancing back a few times before finally leaving the store without another word.
Su He hadn’t brought the kids to the store—they were all supposed to be napping, and it would be a hassle to walk them back later.
Su Shiming sat on a bench outside the store, happily digging into the delicious meal Su He had packed for him.
If helping his daughter at the store meant getting to eat food this good every day, he wouldn’t even need a salary.
*Ahem*—not that Wen Qing’s cooking was bad, but his daughter’s meals were just in a league of their own.
Just look at these meatballs—Mmm—one bite and they burst with juice. So good.
No clue where his daughter found such unique ingredients. Whenever he went to the market, he rarely saw anything like this.
Well, some stuff was close, but none tasted as good as what she made. No idea how she did it.
"Dad, I packed another meal for you to take back to Mom," Su He reminded him as Su Shiming was almost done eating.
"Hey kiddo, why didn't you say so earlier? I'd have taken it home to eat with your mom if I'd known," Su Shiming said helplessly.
"I didn’t want you to starve! Besides, it’s so late—who knows if Mom even made herself dinner? Next time I'll prepare meals earlier."
She had gotten up a bit late today, which delayed things.
"Nah, don’t worry about it. This timing works fine for the shop. If you make it too early, the food will get cold by the time Ting Hua gets off work—you want him coming home to cold food?" Su Shiming still doted on his son-in-law.
Su He fell silent.
Since he needed to bring food back for his wife, Su Shiming didn’t waste time. He quickly finished the remaining rice in his bowl and said to Su He, "I’ll get going now."
"Mm, be careful," Su He replied with concern.
"Got it."
As he spoke, Su Shiming placed the packed meal in the bicycle's front basket, hopped on in one smooth move, and pedaled away.
Su He shot him a worried glance, but another customer came to check out, immediately diverting her attention.
Wen Qing was currently putting in extra hours on her embroidery. Home alone, she just grabbed whatever was quick to eat.
She had always been hard on herself.
The good things—whether for her daughter or her husband—were never something she’d keep for herself.
Feeling her stomach growl, she casually picked up the leftover breakfast buns and ate them with pickles.
This was exactly what Su Shiming saw when he went to find Wen Qing.
Sure enough, when he wasn't home for meals, this silly woman would skimp like this.
A lifetime of never sparing anything good for herself.
He had entered quietly, hoping to surprise her.
But seeing his wife of so many years eating so plainly, his eyes unexpectedly welled up.
As Wen Qing ate, she suddenly sensed someone watching her from behind.
She turned quickly and saw Su Shiming standing there silently observing her.
Geez, you scared me!
"What are you doing? Couldn’t you announce yourself when you come back?" Wen Qing patted her chest, unable to hide her complaint.
"I just wanted to see what you'd have for lunch. And this is it? Last night’s leftovers, huh? You must've had it for breakfast too, and now lunch again—can't you treat yourself better?" Su Shiming said helplessly.
"Oh, it's just me. Cooking’s too much trouble—I figured something quick was fine," Wen Qing replied matter-of-factly.
"Stop eating that. Look, your daughter packed this specially for you. Sent me with it—it's delicious," Su Shiming said, taking the steamed bread from her hands and passing her Su He's packed meal instead.
"She even packed food for me?" Wen Qing said, brightening up.
"Of course. Who do you think raised her?" Su Shiming declared proudly.
"She's mine too," Wen Qing retorted, shooting her husband a playful glare.
The moment she opened the container, the food’s smell spilled out, mouthwatering.
Wen Qing took a look and immediately spotted the meatballs and braised pork placed on top.
The rice must have been arranged by Su He at the very bottom.
"Sweetie has really changed now. The food she makes is so fragrant," Wen Qing said with a smile.
"The biggest change is that she’s become sensible. That’s better than anything," Su Shiming also felt deeply moved.
"I need to do a good job with what our daughter entrusted me with. This must be really important," Wen Qing glanced at the half-finished embroidery and said.
"Right, I also need to keep track of the money for our daughter. You wouldn’t believe how good the business is at sweetie’s shop. Though the durians weren’t selling like usual this morning. But sweetie said she had already anticipated this and told me not to worry..."
