Chapter 93: You Look Beautiful Today

It really did seem that way. Ever since he realized his feelings for Su He, he always found himself nervous around her.
During college, Fu Tinghua had always been gentle with those he was familiar with, while appearing somewhat cold and distant toward strangers.
Many girls pursued him back then, even calling him the school heartthrob.
Fu Tinghua ignored all that. At the time, he was fully focused on medical studies, deeply fascinated by medical knowledge, so he always brushed off girls’ advances.
In those years, he spent all his time bouncing between the dorm, classes, and the lab—so much so that one could say he never even looked twice at any of the girls on campus.
Having been handsome since childhood, he was sick of hearing compliments about his looks.
Because of his good looks, Fu Tinghua didn’t care much about physical appearance.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have decided to marry Su He after learning she was pregnant.
Back then, his heart was entirely devoted to his passion for medicine and a doctor’s duty. He had no interest in romance. Since Su He was pregnant, he was fine with marrying her.
For someone who had never understood love, this was the first time he second-guessed chasing his passion because of romantic feelings—didn’t want to leave the cozy life they’d started together.
In the days since returning from the countryside, whenever he had a free moment, Fu Tinghua couldn’t help but recall the scene of Su He opening the door for him that morning.
He had only glanced at her briefly, yet every detail of that moment was burned into his mind.
Even late at night, tossing and turning, he would get worked up just from thinking of her.
At the time, Fu Tinghua was surprised by his own urges. His sex drive had always been minimal—after all, his workload during the day was heavy, and a single surgery wiped him out. How could he have time to think about such things?
But because he had fallen in love with his wife, Fu Tinghua grew increasingly eager for her to accept him.
Facing Su He now, he wasn’t as smooth as a seasoned romantic. Instead, he felt only the butterflies and blushing of a first love, like a teenager experiencing budding emotions.
He would grow nervous and panicked, terrified that Su He might not be into him and reject him.
If that happened, without the bond of marriage, he would be out of luck.
The confidence he once had in his appearance vanished instantly in front of Su He—because
Su He was so beautiful now, a beauty that stole his heart.
“I... You look beautiful today,” Fu Tinghua suddenly mumbled, his words abrupt and disjointed.
Su He was caught off guard by his sudden sincerity.
She had intended to tease him, but who knew he would suddenly praise her looks?
What woman didn’t enjoy being called beautiful? Secretly pleased, she tried to suppress the smile she couldn’t quite hide and asked, “Where are you taking us to eat?”
“Is there anything you particularly want?”
No, what I want to eat doesn’t exist in this era yet. I might as well cook it myself. Su He thought to herself.
“Anything’s fine. You decide,” Su He replied halfheartedly.
Noticing her lack of enthusiasm, Fu Tinghua worried she might be feeling carsick and suggested, “How about I grab food from the hospital cafeteria for lunch? You can rest, and I’ll treat you to a proper dinner in the evening after work?”
Without hesitation, Su He agreed to his proposal.
Getting dolled up first thing in the morning was oddly exhausting.
Maybe this body wasn't used to car rides yet either? Su He also felt a bit dizzy.
"There are two rooms inside, and I’ve already made the beds. You can sleep in whichever one you like. I'll go grab some takeout now."
After saying this, Fu Tinghua (Deputy Director), quickly left, terrified his family might go hungry for even a second.
Su He casually explored the house. It was two stories—the ground floor had a spacious living room and kitchen, while the second floor housed three rooms. Two of them were bedrooms, and the other was a home office with shelves, a desk, and many medical books.
Though the house wasn't fully furnished and felt somewhat sparse, it was spotlessly clean, proving Fu Tinghua was meticulous about cleanliness.
Su He observed the untouched master bedroom, while the smaller bedroom showed signs of Fu Tinghua’s clothes in the wardrobe.
This meant he had always intended for them to take the master bedroom.
Thinking of this, Su He felt unexpectedly touched—she truly appreciated his thoughtfulness toward her and the children.
"Mommy, mommy, is this our room?" Zai Zai and Niu Niu, who'd somehow scrambled upstairs, bounced excitedly beside her, talking a mile a minute.
"Yes, it is," Su He replied with a smile.
"Wow! It's way bigger than our old place!"
Niu Niu was referring to the tiny dorm they'd lived in before Fu Tinghua got promoted.
"Mommy, is this supposed to be your and Daddy’s room?" Zai Zai suddenly asked, catching Su He off guard.
"Uh... yes," Su He stammered in reply.
"Eh? Then, brother, is our room over there?" Niu Niu said before dashing to the other room.
Zai Zai glanced at Su He again and then followed his sister.
Su He: "......"
She and Fu Tinghua couldn't keep sleeping separately indefinitely.
Such an arrangement would mess with the kids' heads.
Would they grow up thinking it was normal for married couples to sleep apart, just like her and Fu Tinghua?
Zai Zai's innocent question gave Su He pause.
By the time Fu Tinghua returned, the three of them had already finished exploring the house and were chatting in one of the upstairs rooms.
"Chow time!" he announced as he entered the living room.
"Wow, Daddy's back!" The pitter-patter of little feet sounded as the three of them came downstairs one after another.
Fu Tinghua had already plated up the takeout and served everyone rice.
At his hospital’s cafeteria, staff still ate for free. Being both Deputy Director and handsome, he was a favorite with the lunch ladies.
When they heard his family had come to the city, they loaded him up with extra portions.
Seeing how much they had given him, Fu Tinghua tried to pay, but the lunch ladies wouldn't hear of it.
The meal consisted of two vegetable dishes and one meat dish—a real feast by workplace meal standards.
"Wow, Daddy, I'm hungry!" As soon as she entered the kitchen, Niu Niu zeroed in on her dad and latched onto his leg.
