Chapter 219: The Wrong Time and Place

Hearing footsteps return, Fu Tinghua raised his head again, though his eyes now held a hint of impatience.

If there was something to say, then say it. Hesitating and beating around the bush—this was exactly the kind of behavior Dr. Fu, ever the professional, despised.

"Dr. Qin, is there something you need?" Fu Tinghua asked with a frown.

Gazing at his cold but undeniably handsome face, Qin Meixuan clenched her teeth and finally spoke: "Dr. Fu, I—I've always liked you!"

She’d mustered every ounce of courage to say this. She should’ve confessed sooner, but she had been too proud back then, waiting for Fu Tinghua to pursue her instead.

Who knew he’d never even seen her?

Hearing Qin Meixuan's confession, Fu Tinghua’s frown deepened.

"Dr. Qin, this is work time," Fu Tinghua said coldly.

His usual collegial warmth was gone.

    "I know, I’ll be quick. I—"

Noticing his growing irritation, Qin Meixuan gritted her teeth and continued, "I’ve had feelings for you since I started here. Back then, people said you and your wife were having problems, so I thought maybe we—"

Before she could finish, Fu Tinghua interrupted her.

"So Dr. Qin does know I already have a wife. My wife and I have a very good relationship—I love her deeply. I hope you won’t say such things again in the future. As for you—I have no special feelings whatsoever." Fu Tinghua spoke with an ice-calm tone.

    "Why?" Qin Meixuan murmured.

"Please leave, Dr. Qin," Fu Tinghua said, his gaze shifting toward the door.

"Why don’t you like me? I come from a good family, I’m well-educated, and I’m not bad-looking. What’s wrong with me?" Qin Meixuan bit her lip as she spoke.

She barely registered the pain, though the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth.

"You don’t need a reason not to like someone. I hope you won’t bring this up again. I’ll forget this conversation ever happened. Please leave."

With that, Fu Tinghua simply lowered his head and focused on his work, without another glance at her.

Seeing how cold and indifferent the man before her was, Qin Meixuan felt as if her pride lay in ruins.

Gritting her teeth, she shot him a final glare before turning and walking out without another word.

Her presence hadn’t even stirred the slightest ripple in Fu Tinghua’s heart.

At the end of his shift, Fu Tinghua simply shrugged off his white coat and headed out.

    "Evening, Deputy Director."

    "Dr. Fu."

    "Dr. Fu."

    "Deputy Director."

Along the way, many doctors and nurses greeted him. Fu Tinghua acknowledged each with a nod before finally stepping out of the hospital.

Back home, the three kids were playing in the living room. Su He had dug up a puzzle from somewhere and had them working on it while she cooked in the kitchen.

After greeting the three kids, Fu Tinghua made a beeline for the kitchen.

Su He was just wrapping up the last dish and about to grab a bowl to serve it when a pair of hands handed her one.

"Hmm? You're off work so early today?" Su He asked with a smile.

Looking at the sweet smile on his wife's face, Fu Tinghua felt a brief daze.

Some people just seemed meant to be, like how he had fallen for Su He.

"What's wrong with you? Zoning out? Are you too tired?"

After placing the served dish on the table, Su He turned back to Fu Tinghua, reached out to touch his forehead, then touched her own, muttering, "No, it's about the same temperature as mine."

Was he exhausted to the point of acting strange? Su He wondered, as it wasn’t like Dr. Fu to act this way.

Suddenly, her hand was grasped by Fu Tinghua, and a large hand cupped the back of her head.

With a slight force, Su He was pulled forward, and the man's cool lips pressed against hers.

Su He didn’t put up any resistance, letting Fu Tinghua hold her close and kiss her.

Though she kept one ear cocked, her eyes were also alert to any movement at the kitchen door, afraid the kids might suddenly come in.

Fu Tinghua didn’t kiss her for long before letting go.

It wasn’t the right time or place, and he wasn’t the type to easily lose control—he just suddenly wanted to kiss her.

"Sorry," Fu Tinghua said, flushing slightly after releasing her.

Seeing the rare hint of redness on Dr. Fu’s ears, Su He couldn’t help but smile.

"What’s gotten into you today?" Su He felt something was off about him.

After hesitating for a while, Fu Tinghua decided to explain.

"Today, a doctor at the hospital—Qin Meixuan—confessed to me. Not sure if you remember her," Fu Tinghua said with a frown.

"Mhm, and then?" Su He asked, barely batting an eye.

There were so many people who liked Fu Tinghua—Su He didn’t think one more would faze him.

Besides, the first time she had accompanied Dr. Fu to the hospital for a check-up and saw Qin Meixuan, she had clocked immediately that the woman had feelings for him.

So now that Qin Meixuan had confessed, Su He didn’t bat an eyelash.

"Her father is the hospital director, and she’s got a bit of a bossy streak. I’m worried she might make trouble for you," Fu Tinghua sighed.

He didn’t care about himself, but he was afraid it might inconvenience Su He’s life.

He had seen through Qin Meixuan’s character the day he met her.

With her silver-spoon upbringing, education, and looks, she had been spoiled since childhood. After his cold rejection earlier, who knew what she might pull next.

He wasn’t worried about her giving him grief at work—he was more concerned she might come after Su He or feed her some nonsense.

Not wanting any misunderstandings, he figured he’d give her a heads-up.

"Do you think I'm afraid of her?" Su He looked at Fu Tinghua and smirked knowingly.

For some reason, watching Su He's gaze and expression, Fu Tinghua couldn't help but feel a chill.

"I have nothing to do with her, really," he hurriedly explained.

"Ugh, I know there's nothing between you two, but Dr. Fu, you really are quite the lady-killer," Su He said with a cold snort.

No matter the time, Fu Tinghua's pesky admirers never seemed to stop.

"Should I just put a scar on this face then?" Fu Tinghua asked tentatively.

To be honest, this face had brought him far more trouble than convenience in life.

During consultations, many female patients would find excuses to literally throw themselves at him.

And women who had seen him would fake illnesses to come to the hospital just to see him.

Not to mention, many male colleagues had sniped behind his back that he was just a pretty face.

It was only later, through his own exceptional skills, that he managed to shut those critics up.
