Chapter 442: Interrogation Completed
by 范氏女子Chapter 442: Interrogation Concluded
"Just for these reasons, you killed her?" Captain Liu found it completely unbelievable.
In his view, most people these days have kids mainly to take care of them in old age. Fortunately, things have settled down, and people aren’t desperate to have tons of kids anymore.
For their generation, a family needed at least four sons.
Because the country was still at war—if they didn’t reproduce, the whole family could end up at war with no one left to keep the family name going.
That’s why, during conscription, every family kept one son back to carry on the family line.
And most of their generation grew up getting yelled at and beaten.
Captain Liu himself got beaten and scolded a lot as a kid, but he still loved them.
Hearing Captain Liu’s question, Liu Jianjun smirked bitterly and asked, "You married, Captain Liu?"
"No," Captain Liu said without thinking.
"Yeah, figures. Me and my wife—well, ex-wife—we were really good together. But always obeying my mom made me screw her over. She was right to leave me." Liu Jianjun seemed to recall something beautiful, his lips curling into an unconscious smile.
"Anything else? There had to be a last straw for you to kill your mother, right?" Captain Liu pressed.
"Yes, there was. One day, my aunt dropped by when Mom wasn’t home. I was home.
"First thing she says is, 'Why’d you dump the cash cow?'
"She figured I hated my ex now, so she told me that she and my mother had conspired to prevent my ex-wife from getting pregnant. That way, my ex-wife would always feel guilty, and they could keep squeezing her for money.
"As for me—since I always obeyed my mother—they figured they could just find another woman to bear my child later to continue the family line.
"They never truly cared for my ex-wife. To them, she was just a walking ATM. Even the fact that we never had children after years of marriage was their doing.
"I can’t stand myself for that. Back then, the Wen family suggested I marry into their household, but I stubbornly refused, forcing Yu Ru to suffer in my family instead."
Liu Jianjun let out a pained laugh at this point.
"So—that’s your motive for murder?" Captain Liu asked.
"Yes. Isn’t that enough of a reason?
"I know my mother. She’s old-school—she’d never choose money over her own grandkid.
"But ever since I can remember, she’s always listened to my aunt.
"Finally, I realized—my aunt had been pushing my mom to mess with my ex the whole time.
"And after my ex-wife divorced me, my mother’s lifestyle plummeted. She started lashing out at me again, ruining my job and making me second-guess everything."
Su He, hearing Liu Jianjun’s words, also thought Liu’s mother was truly despicable.
A woman as good as Wen Yuru, and she still wasn’t satisfied? What kind of daughter-in-law did she even want?
Thankfully, her actions didn’t lead to tragedy—depriving Wen Yuru of the chance to be a mother.
"What about the clothes? Why were the two victims dressed so well?" Captain Liu asked again.
Initially, the high-quality clothing on the victims had led them to suspect the deceased came from recently wealthy families, prompting a thorough investigation in that direction.
This misled the investigation and stalled the case for ages.
"The clothes—they took my ex-wife's old clothes she abandoned at home and wore them.
When my ex-wife left, she left nothing behind.
But because she once visited me in the military, she left two coats there.
Those two coats were my only memento, yet my mother and aunt each took one to wear."
Liu Jianjun's expression was twisted with bitter irony, his whole attitude made it clear he had completely lost all feeling for his mother.
"That's all my questions. Chief, do you have anything else to ask?" Captain Liu turned to Song Zhicheng.
"Hmm." Song Zhicheng gave a curt nod before adding, "Why was the first attack near the hospital?"
"Because the hospital was the last place I saw my ex-wife. After that, I searched for her but never saw her again," Liu Jianjun replied.
"What about your aunt?"
"As for my aunt, the location was random."
"So, was Su He your next target?"
"No, I don't have anything against Su He. I went to her to either beg or threaten her into taking me to see my ex-wife. But even if she refused, I wouldn’t have killed her. Though I’ve lost it and killed my own family, I won’t harm the innocent who’ve done me no wrong," Liu Jianjun answered.
"That's bullshit. What about Xia Chengan? Did he wrong you?" Captain Liu said mockingly.
"Regarding Xia Chengan, he was the one breathing down my neck, which is why I acted against him. Besides, he put up a fight—he’s military-trained, and so am I. If he pieced it together afterward, he’d easily realize it was me. I wanted to see my ex-wife one last time—anyone who stood in my way had to die." Liu Jianjun’s expression was icy as he spoke.
Xia Chengan got lucky, though fortunately, he survived.
"Miss Su, do you have anything else to say to Liu Jianjun?" Song Zhicheng suddenly asked Su He.
"No. I have nothing to say to him." Su He’s entire demeanor was cold—she had no words for Liu Jianjun.
"Miss Su, can I ask you for a favor?" Liu Jianjun blurted out.
Su He looked at him but didn’t respond.
"Please… don’t tell Yu Ru about me."
"You made such a spectacle—do you really think she wouldn’t know?" Su He scoffed.
"Then at least don’t let my daughter know her father is a murderer, okay?" Liu Jianjun pressed.
"Don’t worry. Your daughter will never even know you existed." Su He shot him an icy look.
What she despised most were people like Liu Jianjun—those who failed to cherish what they had when they had it, only to regret it after losing everything. It was just pathetic.
In the end, if Wen Yuru had stayed with him, he would’ve still treated her the same way—remaining a momma's boy who jumped when his mom said jump.
Su He felt there was nothing left to say to this man. Even being called to the police station today seemed like a complete waste of time.
Liu Jianjun seemed to have given up completely, his eyes empty and lifeless.
"Alright, Miss Su, thank you for coming today. That's all for today." Song Zhicheng stood up and smiled at Su He.
Of course, there were still details of the crimes to be interrogated, but that'll take a while.
They also needed to check his story behind Liu Jianjun’s earlier claims.
