Chapter 86: Picking a Fight
by 范氏女子Chapter 86: Starting Trouble
When Su He got back to her stall, she got everything ready and started frying the dough. The market was already filling up with people.
Maybe because other stalls were now selling fried dough too, Su He’s sales weren’t as strong as before.
A customer caught the smell of frying and came over, asking, “How much for one of these?”
“Three mao each,” Su He replied.
Out of nowhere, a man cut in and said, “Three mao? Who’s gonna pay that much? There’s a stall over there selling them for just two mao each.”
Hearing this, the customer who had just asked immediately lost interest in buying from Su He, shook his head, and walked away.
Su He’s face darkened as she glared at the man who had spoken up. “Mind stepping back? You’re ruining my business.”
“Oh, so you’re overcharging and won’t even let people say it?” The guy was being a real jerk, just trying to rile her up.
Su He saw right through him.
This man was clearly working with the stall that had copied her—they were ganging up to push her out.
But this business was hers, and she wasn’t about to let them take advantage of her hard work.
“If you keep ruining my business, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she said firmly. She wouldn’t start trouble, but she wouldn’t back down either.
Aunt Niu watched as the man made a face at Su He and grew furious.
However, since he was a big, burly guy, and they were just two women, she couldn’t help but feel a little worried.
When another customer came to ask about the price and got chased off by that creep, Su He turned to him and said, “If you ruin my business one more time, I won’t go easy on you.”
“Oh, little lady, what are you gonna do? A little thing like you should stay home and let a man take care of you. Why are you muscling in on business?” The man sneered, his tone mocking and lewd.
“Is that so?” Su He gave an icy smile, then stepped out from behind the stall and walked right up to him.
“You know there’s a crackdown happening right now, don’t you?” she asked icily.
“I haven’t done anything wrong. What’s the crackdown got to do with me?”
The man was shameless. He didn’t lay a hand on her—he just kept sabotaging her business and spewing disgusting remarks.
Su He clenched her fists, then swiftly twisted the man’s arm. A sickening *crack* sounded, and he howled in pain.
“Murder! Murder!”
The market was getting more crowded, and people quickly gathered to see what was happening.
Mortified to get taken down by a girl, the man’s face turned beet red, but no matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t break free from Su He’s grip.
Just then, a police officer maintaining order in the market heard the commotion and pushed through the crowd.
Seeing a petite, fair-skinned woman holding down a burly man, the cop did a double take.
But he quickly regained his professional composure and asked sternly, “What’s going on here?”
Spotting the officer, Su He immediately released the troublemaker and put on her best damsel-in-distress act.
“Officer, I was just running my business when this man—figuring I was defenseless—started harassing me and insulting me. Since there’s a crackdown going on, I thought I’d help detain him and take him to the station. But you got here just in time.” With her tearful look and flawless acting, Su He had the cop eating out of her hand.
The main thing is, she's way too pretty.
Although Su He considers herself still a bit overweight, her current figure is just the kind guys go crazy for.
Her body might be slightly plump, but her face is beautiful.
She satisfies both men's visual preferences and their desire for some curves to grab onto.
Seeing how Su He turned things upside down, the rogue freaked out right away and shot back defensively, "I didn’t do anything! I was just looking around, and when someone came to buy her stuff, I made some comment, and then she hit me!"
Hearing his words, Su He promptly added at the right moment, "That’s right, officer. Not only did he harass me, but he also messed with my business, scaring other customers away."
At this point, Aunt Niu also stepped forward to stand up for Su He. "Yes, yes, officer. This rogue has been messing with her business this whole time. Every time someone comes to ask about the price, he tells them there’s a cheaper place elsewhere, driving all the customers away."
The rogue, hearing this, grew indignant and retorted, "What I said wasn’t wrong! Our stuff is genuinely cheaper than hers!"
Well, that sealed it.
The officer, upon hearing his words, directly cuffed him and said, "You’re suspected of harassing a respectable woman and engaging in cutthroat business tactics. Come with us."
The rogue never expected that just making some comments at someone else’s stall would get him arrested by the police. He freaked out right away.
"Officer, I’m innocent! I was wrong! I’ll never do it again!"
But it was no use—he was still taken away by one of the officers.
The younger officer who remained behind looked at Su He somewhat helplessly and said, "This kind of thing isn’t exactly a major offense. At most, we’ll detain him for half a day and give him a lecture before letting him go.
Guys like this are used to causing trouble. You should be careful and try to avoid them in the future."
"Alright, thank you, officer," Su He replied with a smile.
Seeing Su He’s soft, porcelain skin lit up with a radiant smile, the officer blushed slightly.
Now he had no doubt that Su He had been harassed by that rogue—after all, the girl was just too pretty.
After the police left, the crowd soon dispersed.
Su He returned to her stall, though her business had clearly taken a beating.
"Ugh, these people are disgusting. Copying someone else’s craft and then messing with their business. Miss Su, good thing you're sharp and got the police to take him away. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have been able to do any business today." This time, Aunt Niu was genuinely impressed by Su He.
Praised like this by Aunt Niu, Su He felt kind of flustered.
Over an hour passed, and Su He had only sold a little over ten fried dough. Compared to the one or two hundred she usually sold in two or three hours, this could only be described as a total wash.
Aunt Niu, seeing that no more fried dough was being fried in the pan but the charcoal fire was still burning, winced at the waste.
If things continued like this, Su He might not even earn back the cost of the charcoal today.
Su He, however, didn't let it get to her. Business had its ups and downs—she had a good head on her shoulders.
Besides, she believed in her skills. Her food was definitely way better than the other stalls'.
They might copy, but they'll never beat the original.
