Chapter 318: The Crisis Brought by the Butterfly Effect
by 范氏女子Chapter 318: The Butterfly Effect's Crisis
When Su He woke up, she felt her previously gloomy mood had strangely lifted unexpectedly.
Perhaps it was because she had shared her little secret with Fu Tinghua, and it felt like a weight had been lifted.
"Mom," Zai Zai's eyes lit up the moment he saw her.
"Oh, how long have you been up?" Su He asked her son with a smile.
Nowadays, she had become the last one up in the household.
"Mom, we've been up for ages. You're the little sleepyhead of the family," Niu Niu ran up to Su He and teased.
Su He felt a bit embarrassed. She had stayed up late chatting last night; she only regretted that it wasn't the weekend, forcing Dr. Fu to stay up with her.
"Mom is tired every day. She deserves to sleep a little longer," Zai Zai said to Niu Niu, displeased.
"I know! Mom can sleep as much as she wants. But brother, 'little sleepyhead' is a cute nickname. I'm praising Mom," Niu Niu blinked, confused, unsure what she had said wrong again.
Mom always called her "little sleepyhead" with a smile, and she loved it when Mom praised her like that.
Zai Zai was speechless.
Sometimes, people could be truly speechless.
Watching this scene, Su He burst out laughing.
"Alright, time for Mom to make breakfast. Will you both help me?" Su He asked with a smile.
"Okay~"
Both children chimed in excitedly.
While the three of them were enjoying their happy time, a violent attack occurred at Wencheng People's Hospital.
A patient's family member, resentful because the hospital couldn't treat her son's eye condition, nursed a grudge.
When the hospital security were distracted, she took a fruit knife and tracked down the doctor.
After observing the doctor stealthily for a long time, she seized the moment when neither the doctor nor anyone around was paying attention and stabbed him over a dozen times from behind.
As soon as the incident happened, the building where it occurred was quickly cordoned off by the police, in case the attacker had accomplices.
Several police cars were parked at the hospital entrance, and many crowds gathered, refusing to leave.
"What's going on?"
"I heard a patient tried to stab a doctor."
"Seriously? What happened?"
"Not sure, but it seems serious. No one's allowed in right now."
"My God, how could something like this happen in a hospital? That's crazy."
"Is this the hospital where that doctor in the papers works?"
"That's the one."
"Was it that doctor who got hurt?"
"No way, right?"
"They’d be locked up for good."
"Tch tch, even if your family member couldn't be saved, you shouldn't harm the doctor. Doctors are here to help, not to hurt."
"Exactly, exactly. People like that are just evil."
"Could it be that the family couldn't afford treatment? The hospital refused to help?"
"Possibly. These days, hospitals won’t even see you without cash up front."
"But hospitals aren’t free clinics. How can you say that?"
"What’s someone supposed to do if they’re broke? Just let them die?"
"Hospital supplies and doctors' salaries all cost money. Who would work as a doctor if they weren't paid? That’s the way it goes."
For ages, the doctor-patient relationship has always been tense. With this incident, folks in Wencheng won’t shut up about this.
Even before anyone even knew what happened, two opposing groups had already started arguing.
Su He had just finished cooking when she stepped outside and bumped into her neighbor, Qin Fenghua.
"Miss Su, going somewhere?" Qin Fenghua asked, looking anxious.
"Yes, I'm going to the shop," Su He replied with a smile.
"Forget the shop! The hospital’s in chaos!" Qin Fenghua said urgently.
"Trouble? What happened?"
Su He suddenly felt an ominous premonition. For some reason, she was sure it involved Dr. Fu.
"I don't know the details, but I heard a patient attacked a doctor. No one knows which doctor got hurt. My husband left for work early today—I hope it's not him. I'm going to check. Do you want to come?" Qin Fenghua asked anxiously.
She was panicking and wanted Su He to come along for support.
Upon hearing this, Su He's legs went weak for no apparent reason.
"I’m coming with you. Zai... Zai Zai, I—" Su He was shaking so badly she could hardly get the words out, tears welling in her eyes.
Seeing her like this actually calmed Qin Fenghua down a little, and she tried to comfort Su He.
"Miss Su, don't be scared. It probably isn't your Dr. Fu. Everyone at the hospital loves him—patients and doctors alike praise him. So don't worry."
But Su He wasn’t hearing any of it. She turned around in a daze and saw Zai Zai and Niu Niu had followed her outside.
Seeing how upset she was, Zai Zai's expression changed, and he immediately hugged her.
"Mom, don't be afraid. We'll stay with you."
As if he already guessed what was happening, he hugged her tight, trying to comfort her.
"I’m okay. Let's go to the hospital. Watch your sister."
Su He rushed inside to grab the car keys.
But something didn't feel right—in her condition, she shouldn't be driving.
"Qin-jie, we...we'll go to the hospital with you. Right now." Su He said, holding each child by the hand as she walked toward Qin Fenghua.
"Alright, let's hurry then. Come on, let's go."
With that, the group quickly set off toward the hospital, hurrying.
Su He kept silently repeating in her heart: Please don't let it be Dr. Fu in trouble.
Though the thought was selfish, she truly couldn't stand to lose him.
"Mom." Sensing Su He's anxiety and worry, Zai Zai couldn’t help but call out to her.
"I'm okay. Let’s go find your dad—he's probably waiting for us."
Su He didn’t know if the plot was unchangeable or if something unexpected had caused a butterfly effect.
But if that were truly the case, what about her? Wouldn't that mean she'd die soon too? If the novel’s storyline was truly irreversible...
But what if...what if it was really Fu Tinghua who got hurt?
Su He had already prepared for the worst. If it really was him, she would bring the kids to say goodbye to Fu Tinghua.
She wouldn’t let the children have regrets. Nor would she allow herself to have regrets.
Most importantly, she wouldn’t let Dr. Fu have any regrets.
