Chapter 73: Husband Comes Home
by 范氏女子Chapter 73: Husband Comes Home
Su He gathered all the children and had them help wrap dumplings.
The kids' dumplings were all unique, with funny shapes that made Su He laugh out loud.
Zhuang Zhuang and the others had eaten dumplings at the Fu household before—after all, dumplings were a holiday staple. But at home, they’d never sit still long enough to make them.
At Aunt Su He's place, it was different. The kids stood around the table, bragging about how great their dumplings looked and competing to see who made the best ones. They were loving it.
They loved being at Aunt Su He's because even if their dumplings turned out messy, she never fussed over their messes—she’d just smile warmly at them.
"Mommy, mommy! Look at this bunny I made—isn’t it cute?"
Niu Niu proudly showed Su He a dumpling she had shaped like a rabbit. Honestly, it kinda did!
But honey, you forgot the filling! It’ll be all dough when it’s cooked!
Was Su He about to break her heart? Of course not.
So cute!
"Then Mommy gets to eat this one!"
Su He: *sweats nervously*.
Just then, the sound of a car engine came from outside.
Weird—why all the cars today?
Did Ji Liangchuan’s grandma have second thoughts? Was she here to take him back?
Clearly, the kids heard the car too. Floury hands and all, they followed Su He as she hurried to the door.
As soon as Su He stepped outside, she saw Fu Tinghua stepping out of a car.
Both startled, then quickly glanced away.
Su He felt flustered at the sight of Fu Tinghua’s handsome face. Today, he looked even more striking than the last time she saw him, when he had been exhausted from travel.
Back then, his clothes had been ratty and worn-out, as if weathered by time, giving him a somewhat disheveled appearance.
But this time, Fu Tinghua was dressed in neat, well-fitted attire, giving off a whole new vibe.
He wore a simple white shirt that gave him a cool, polished, and understated look.
Paired with straight, tailored trousers, his long legs were accentuated, making him appear tall and commanding—perfectly outlining his slender yet imposing figure.
Perhaps having just gotten off work, his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, revealing the smooth, well-defined lines of his forearms.
His hair was neatly in place, not a strand out of line, with even the fringe at his forehead obediently falling into position. The overall effect was a man who looked both strikingly handsome and impeccably clean, with an icy, untouchable aura.
His deep eyes were like the brightest stars in the night sky, and beneath his high nose bridge, his thin lips pressed together slightly, carrying a hint of aloofness.
Su He couldn’t help but sigh inwardly: *This man is truly a demon! With looks and a body like that, he’s practically God’s favorite.*
However, Su He knew very well that their relationship was only nominal—there was no emotional foundation between them.
She couldn’t let herself be swayed by his appearance. She had to stay firm on her own path.
Thinking of this, Su He took a deep breath and forced herself not to look at Fu Tinghua anymore.
She reminded herself to stay focused and not let his looks weaken her decision to divorce.
After all, marriage isn’t just about appearances—what truly matters is how two people get along and their emotional connection.
Meanwhile, Fu Tinghua hadn’t seen Su He for over a week, and now that he was back, he noticed she had lost even more weight—and had become much prettier.
In the eyes of women now, she was no longer the plump figure she once was, but rather someone who gave off a fertile and robust look.
This wasn’t an era that worshipped skinniness as beauty, and though Su He was still a little curvy, she looked far better than before.
As for his suddenly much more attractive wife, Fu Tinghua found himself rarely this flustered.
It was Niu Niu who broke the awkwardness between the two adults first. The moment she saw her handsome father, she shouted loudly, "Daddy!"
Then, Zai Zai followed suit.
The two children rushed toward Fu Tinghua one after another, begging to be picked up.
Shaking off his distraction, Fu Tinghua picked up one child in each arm and smiled, saying, "Daddy’s home to see you."
Zhuang Zhuang and the others weren’t very familiar with Fu Tinghua, especially since he was unbelievably good-looking, so they just watched him curiously from the side.
They weren’t that attached to this uncle—they still preferred their aunt.
Meanwhile, Ji Liangchuan was so surprised to see how good-looking Zai Zai and Niu Niu’s father was that his jaw dropped.
At that moment, the person who had been driving stepped out of the car as well.
The man was dressed in casual clothes, his laid-back attitude making it obvious he was the young master of a wealthy family.
His looks weren’t bad, but compared to Fu Tinghua, he couldn’t measure up.
"Ting Hua, so these are your two kids?" the man asked.
"Yeah, call him Uncle Xia," Fu Tinghua said to the children with a smile.
Zai Zai and Niu Niu obediently greeted, "Hello, Uncle Xia."
The man immediately looked horrified and whined, "I’m not old enough to be an uncle! Call me ‘Big Bro’ at least!"
For the first time, Su He saw Fu Tinghua smile as he teased the man, "You’re already in your twenties, and you still want to be called ‘Big Brother’?"
The man turned his gaze to Su He and froze for a moment.
Wait, wasn’t it rumored that Dr. Fu’s wife was a fat, ugly pig? People said it was a pity—a catch like Dr. Fu wasted on her.
But seeing her today, it seemed the rumors were wrong?
She wasn’t exactly huge, right? If anything, she had some meat on her—and wasn’t that the kind of figure men liked? Who’d want to cuddle a bag of bones?
Besides, her skin was fair and delicate, clearly spoiled rotten growing up—nothing like the exaggerated rumors.
Wait, was this even his wife? Or—hold on—his sister?
Just as Xia Chengan was about to ask Su He’s identity, Fu Tinghua coughed lightly, interrupting Xia Chengan’s staring.
"This is my wife, Su He," Fu Tinghua said, finally meeting Su He’s eyes again before adding, "And this is my close friend, Xia Chengan."
"Hey, sis," Xia Chengan greeted Su He with a smile.
Su He returned his greeting with a warm smile and said, "We're making dumplings at home, and they're about to go in the pot. You guys hungry?"
Xia Chengan was about to decline—he still had to drive to another place.
But he was indeed a little hungry, so he agreed, saying, "Sounds good—I’d love to try your dumplings!"
It would also be a good chance to see if the rumors about Dr. Fu’s wife being unattractive and bad at keeping house were true.
