Chapter 344: In Two Sentences, All Secrets Are Revealed
by 范氏女子Chapter 344: Just Two Sentences and Everything Was Laid Bare
Su He had no idea her daughter’s thoughts were so elaborate. Her attention was entirely focused on Xia Miao and Xia Chengan.
Watching Xia Chengan kept putting food in Xia Miao’s bowl—first one dish, saying she liked it, then another, telling her to eat up—it was hard to tell whether his affection for her was just brotherly... or something more.
"What’s wrong?" Fu Tinghua noticed Su He’s distracted expression and leaned in to whisper in her ear.
"Nothing," Su He looked away fast.
She hadn’t been staring at them, just occasionally glancing their way. No one else would’ve caught it. But of course, Dr. Fu, who was always watching her, would pick up on it.
She thought—whenever Fu Tinghua was with her, his focus was entirely on her. Xia Miao had once said that Dr. Fu acted differently around her compared to others. Su He couldn’t help but feel grateful that, at the very least, they were both into each other.
After the meal, they all split up. By the time they got home, it was already 8:30 p.m., pretty late.
The two of them got busy with their usual chores—bathing the kids, putting them to bed—before finally taking care of their own stuff.
Once they were both in bed, Fu Tinghua asked, "Why were you watching Xia Miao and Xia Chengan so hard today?"
Su He hesitated...
Well, Dr. Fu didn’t know Xia Miao was into Xia Chengan. Should she tell him?
As she hesitated, Fu Tinghua added, "Did you overhear what we were talking about in the private room earlier?"
Sharp as always, Dr. Fu had figured it out right away.
But this was Xia Miao’s private matter. Worried about hurting her pride, Su He quickly deflected, "Since when do guys gossip, Dr. Fu?"
Her obvious evasion only confirmed Fu Tinghua’s suspicions.
"They’re not biological siblings. We only found out today. The Xia family wants Xia Chengan to marry Xia Miao," he laid it out straight, unfazed by Su He’s secrecy and directly revealing what she hadn’t known.
Wait—what?!
Huh?!
Su He froze. The Xia family actually wanted them to marry?
In that case, Xia Miao had personally heard Xia Chengan say he didn’t like her. Would she try to stop it?
Su He wasn’t one to gossip, but she was really curious. She wanted to discuss with Fu Tinghua whether Xia Chengan had any feelings for Xia Miao at all.
"Does Xia Chengan really not like Xia Miao?" she finally blurted out.
Hearing her question, Fu Tinghua confirmed one more thing—Xia Miao had to be into Xia Chengan.
Otherwise, why would she hold back from calling him out after hearing him say he only saw her as a sister? That was totally unlike Xia Miao.
Clearly, Su He was aware of this too. Otherwise, she’d have outright said that Xia Miao didn’t like Xia Chengan and questioned how the Xia family could do such a thing, instead of hesitating and stammering.
Little did Su He know, Fu Tinghua had already pieced it all together from just those two sentences.
"That’s not necessarily the case," Fu Tinghua’s voice in the darkness was as refreshing as a winter spring, incredibly soothing.
"Hmm?" Su He couldn’t help but widen her eyes at Fu Tinghua, looking very intrigued.
"How’s that?" When Fu Tinghua didn’t respond, Su He couldn’t resist asking again.
"Kiss me, and I’ll spill," Fu Tinghua’s eyes sparkled with mischief as he gazed at Su He in the dark.
Su He: "..."
Dr. Fu was a total Jekyll and Hyde—in bed and out of it.
The moment they got into bed, he turned into a cheeky flirt, deliberately provoking her.
"Are you going to tell me or not? If not, I’m ignoring you," Su He threatened.
"So, just one kiss—is that really so hard?" Fu Tinghua sounded genuinely aggrieved.
Oh, great, so now it’s *her* fault? This sneaky, scheming fox.
Su He had no choice but to peck one side of Fu Tinghua’s face.
"That’s it?" Fu Tinghua didn’t seem satisfied.
"Don’t push your luck. Spit it out or don’t," Su He turned away, her back now facing him.
Fu Tinghua: "..."
Okay, maybe he’d overdone it.
"I was just teasing. I’ll tell you," Fu Tinghua relented, pulling her into a hug from behind to placate her.
"Then go ahead," Su He turned back to face him, listening intently.
The more Fu Tinghua looked at her like this, the cuter she looked.
He took her small hand in his before speaking slowly, "Actually, I’ve always found it strange—why Xia Miao never really clicked with the rest of the Xia family, as if she only got along well with Xia Chengan. Looking back, the Xia family probably all knew Xia Miao wasn’t biologically related, and Xia Chengan knew too. But ever since I’ve known him, he’s hardly spoiled his sister."
Su He had expected some bombshell, but this was it?
She couldn’t help rolling her eyes at Fu Tinghua, deadpanned, "Oh, gee, thanks for that. I could’ve guessed that much myself."
Fu Tinghua: "..."
"There’s more. I haven’t finished," Fu Tinghua said, a little defeated.
"Mm, go on," Su He kept her cool, convinced Fu Tinghua wouldn’t say anything earth-shattering.
When it came to matters of the heart, Dr. Fu was just as lost.
He’d only won her over because she liked him too.
Otherwise, with his awkwardness—pfft...
Actually, maybe that wasn’t entirely fair. Dr. Fu had his moments.
Su He was lost in her own thoughts when she suddenly felt someone press a kiss to her lips.
"What are you doing?" Su He was startled.
"You were miles away," Fu Tinghua said, having spoken to her twice with no response.
"Oh, wait, had Dr. Fu said something?" Su He felt a little awkward.
"I said, in the past, I might not have thought Xia Chengan had feelings for Xia Miao. But after being with you, I noticed the way he looks at her is just like the way I look at you."
As Fu Tinghua spoke, his eyes held Su He’s.
Even in the darkness of the room, Su He could feel the heat in his eyes.
The air between them grew hot, making her blush.
A heavy, charged tension enveloped them.
Su He suddenly realized how wrong she had been to think Fu Tinghua was a blockhead.
Dr. Fu was anything but a dull man—this man was smooth as hell.
