Chapter 73 – Jing Yuanzhao Takes Away Yan Wanwan
by AdminChapter 73 - Jing Yuanzhao Takes Away Yan Wanwan
The car came to a halt, and the man roughly pushed open the door, standing firm on his feet.
He was dressed in a steel-gray German military uniform, crisp and stiff. With his straight back and towering figure, he resembled a towering pine, exuding strength and majesty.
His dark complexion contrasted with his strikingly handsome face, chiseled to perfection, every feature harmonious and pleasing to the eye.
The metallic badges on his chest ribbon glinted in the sunlight, adding a touch of brilliance to his presence.
Jing Yuanzhao stood there, and the boorish aura of the onlookers instantly dissipated.
He calmly swept his gaze over the crowd, "Scatter, what are you all looking at?"
Intimidated by his imposing demeanor and the armed adjutants surrounding him, the spectators retreated. However, their curiosity still piqued, they lingered not too far away, muttering amongst themselves.
"Why be afraid to look?"
"Can't the Commander's fiancée be seen? This situation is quite peculiar."
Despite this, they still didn't dare approach any closer.
Jing Yuanzhao glanced once more at the entrance of the Yan residence.
Yan Xin stood in a corner, her gaze meeting his.
Upon contact, she quickly averted her eyes, lowering her gaze and no longer looking at him.
She felt somewhat disappointed.
Today's spectacle likely wouldn't harm Yan Wanwan or Luozhu.
Jing Yuanzhao had come to salvage the situation.
Yan Wanwan was Jing Yuanzhao's savior, his fiancée. This status would never waver in Jing Yuanzhao's heart.
He was always there to support Yan Wanwan.
As Jing Yuanzhao's status rose, so did Yan Wanwan's.
"Wanwan!" Spotting him, she rushed over, tears streaming down her face. "Brother Zhao, this is an unjust calamity."
She then mentioned the loss of her jade pendant.
The hooligans, held down by the adjutants, were all crying innocence.
Jing Yuanzhao pointed his gun at one of them. "Are you sure it was Young Miss Yan, the seventh daughter of the Yan family, who bribed you to cause trouble?"
Neither Yan Wanwan nor Luozhu had shown themselves.
When others took care of matters, like how Yan Xin sent Bai Shuang to give money without revealing herself, they wouldn't make an appearance either.
"Go-betweens" were easily found.
Feeling panicked, the hooligan immediately spoke up. "That's what Master Xu said. We just took the money to do the job."
"And who exactly paid you to cause a ruckus at the Yan residence?" Jing Yuanzhao demanded coldly.
Yan Xin stood silently.
Luozhu was agitated. "There's someone pulling the strings from behind. Commander, you must investigate. Wanwan isn't worth much; this is someone trying to smear your reputation. As husband and wife, you two are one."
Yan Xin's lips quivered again.
Indeed, she was almost forgetting this fact.
Jing Yuanzhao and Yan Wanwan were betrothed, they were one entity.
She, Yan Xin, didn't amount to anything; she was merely a form of amusement.
Despite his actions—holding her, kissing her, and declaring his affection—he still intended to marry his savior.
Women held different values in the eyes of men.
Yan Xin appeared lovely but was of little worth.
In both her lifetimes, she had never held much value, especially in the hearts of men.
She let out a barely audible sigh.
"Certainly, we'll investigate!" Jing Yuanzhao replied coldly.
Luozhu was immensely grateful. "Commander, if not for you, Wanwan would have been doomed."
Jing Yuanzhao didn't respond.
He instructed his adjutant to take all the thugs away, to be interrogated at their leisure.
Mei, Zhu Shichang's wife, glanced at Yan Xin.
Yan Xin nodded at her, signaling her to remain composed.
With the thugs taken away and the servants dispersing, Jing Yuanzhao turned to get into his car.
He paused slightly, his gaze drifting towards Yan Xin. Then, he turned to look at Yan Wanwan.
He said, "Yan Wanwan, come with me."
Luozhu was overjoyed.
Yan Wanwan wiped away her tears, suppressing her inner exhilaration as she got into his car.
The car sped off, leaving Jing Yuanzhao without another glance at Yan Xin.
From her previous life, Yan Xin had learned from Jiang Sijiao and Zhang Qingya that when it came to choices, men never seemed to choose her.
She had grown accustomed to it.
It was for the best, she hoped to be free of Jing Yuanzhao sooner rather than later.
The servants dispersed.
Yan Xin walked back with Bai Shuang by her side.
"Maid, do you think Young Marshal will find out?" Bai Shuang was somewhat worried.
Yan Xin replied, "If he can trace the money trail, he'll also discover that it was Yan Wanwan who started it all. He'll be able to distinguish right from wrong."
Even if he didn't and decided to hold Yan Xin accountable, she could always seek help from General Jing and his wife.
At worst, she could just accept the consequences and let everything fall apart.
Jing Yuanzhao himself had said that those who feared death were often the first to succumb to it.
Yan Xin wasn't bothered by it.
She reassured Bai Shuang, "It's alright."
Despite the farce ending, the household servants still believed the ruffians' words.
"It must have been Seventh Miss and Second Madam who sent people to cause trouble, but the ruffians, not satisfied, came knocking on their own."
"Sixth Miss has never been one to vie for attention or act aggressively. She's gentle and runs her business honestly. She wouldn't jeopardize her livelihood just to frame Seventh Miss and Second Madam."
"Miss Six is the darling of the Governor's Mansion, treated as an adopted daughter equal to the heir. Miss Seven, on the other hand, is just a fiancée," someone commented.
"In my opinion, an official daughter is far more valuable than a daughter-in-law who hasn't entered the family yet. Miss Six holds a high position; she wouldn't stoop so low. It must be Miss Seven."
"Miss Seven and Second Madam have always been rather unscrupulous. I don't know how the rumor started that Young Divine Doctor is Miss Seven. People outside are talking about it. Don't we all know in this family that Miss Six has been studying medicine since young?"
"A relative of mine insists it's Miss Seven. I tried to explain, but he wouldn't listen. Miss Seven is cunning, while Miss Six is truly pitiful."
The servants of the Yan family were biased towards Yan Xin.
As for the neighbors, opinions varied.
However, most believed that Yan Xin had no reason to cause trouble, and the culprit was likely Yan Wanwan or Luozhu.
With the reputation of the Young Divine Doctor attached to her name, Yan Wanwan was now under scrutiny by the community.
Grandmother asked Yan Xin what was going on.
Knowing that Grandmother was easily worried and overly cautious, and considering her own fragile health, Yan Xin decided not to burden her with these concerns.
That evening, Yan Xin didn't return home; she stayed with her grandmother.
The next morning, Sun Ma discreetly passed a message to Yan Xin.
"… Zhu Shi Chang's family is well-informed. They've mentioned that Miss Seventh didn't come back last night," Sun Ma relayed.
Yan Xin replied, "Noted."
With Jing Yuanzhao's impulsive nature and Yan Wanwan's willingness to accommodate him, it was possible that the two had indeed consummated their marriage last night.
Yan Wanwan would undoubtedly attribute all sorts of slanderous accusations onto Yan Xin.
After breakfast, Yan Xin returned to the Jiang residence.
Upon her return, she disclosed the events to her trusted confidants.
They were all enraged.
If Jing Yuanzhao hadn't suddenly appeared, Yan Wanwan and Luozhu would have found themselves in a sea of trouble.
"I never intended to defeat them all at once," Yan Xin explained. "I just need to create a small crack. Many things cannot be achieved hastily."
To alter people's perceptions, one needed to proceed gradually, not with a fierce blaze.
Yesterday, the neighbors and the servants in the Yan residence had begun to speculate: Why did Seventh Miss send someone to cause trouble at Sixth Miss's apothecary?
Was it out of jealousy towards Sixth Miss?
Who was the true Young Divine Healer of the Yan family?
With this topic circulating, Yan Xin's objective was achieved.
In the afternoon, Yan Xin found herself idle and decided to visit the apothecary.
However, Madam Mei suddenly sent her a message regarding Yan Wanwan.
Yan Wanwan had returned to the Yan residence earlier that noon. With the servants keeping a close eye on her, news of her actions spread quickly.
Upon hearing this, Yan Xin was deeply shocked.
This was nothing like what she had anticipated.
