    Chapter 18: Enrollment

Wen Ying adjusted his mindset and revealed a bright smile. "I'll take my time to memorize it." How wonderful, he now had another powerful card up his sleeve in the demon world.

Beros subtly stepped back, his gaze landing on Wen Ying's radiant smile. His brows furrowed, a mix of displeasure and worry for the future. Aruda was trying to create a second version of him?

He wasn't afraid of strong opponents; instead, he enjoyed encountering enemies that could give him a good fight. However, when it came to poison, it was an annoyance he could do without.

The enforcement demon carried the corpses away, and the surrounding demons’ conversation shifted topics at some point. Listening to them, Wen Ying, now equipped with Aruda’s signature sling bag, felt his previously inflated ego deflate like a punctured balloon.

"Speaking of humans, their anger flavored with all sorts of emotions is said to be incredibly delicious!"

"I was lucky enough to taste anger stored in a bottle, the fear-infused variety. It was exquisite, like being drunk, and I've been dreaming about it ever since. I wonder when I'll get to taste it again."

"The amount of anger in one person is quite small. A casual intake can almost kill them. Tsk, what a disappointment."

"Have you been to the Human Realm?"

"Don't remind me. Last time, I accidentally found a portal and almost got killed by an exorcist. I had to crawl back to the demon world with all my limbs, barely escaping being turned into an enchanted tool. I made sure not to kill any food, so why were they so hostile?" The demon sighed. "But it was truly delicious. Demons should indeed consume humans. I have to agree with the extremist faction on this point."

Wen Ying recalled that fateful night when he was perceived as mere sustenance by the demonic entity with the ghostly visage, a vulnerable and powerless version of himself.

Listening to another demon remark, "Speaking of which, I've heard that one can taste the essence of humanity from a demon mixed with human blood. It's said that in remote areas, these hybrid demons are even consumed as food, and there are black markets dealing in them."

"{Wen Ying}:" "??" Holy sh*t?! He stared in utter shock at the demon who had spoken such ruthless words, only to find that this particular demon was a fair-faced youth with an expression of sheer innocence.

The demon saw Wen Ying's wide-eyed gaze and chuckled, asking, "What's the matter?"

Wen Ying shook his head, turning it back around.

The demon behind them continued his conversation with his companion, this time in a hushed tone, "I've heard that there were a few overbearing noble demons who dared to treat Second Prince as prey!"

    "Goodness gracious! ?"

"The Second Prince is a hybrid, wasn't he incredibly weak back then? But it seems their elders found out and gave them a good scolding," the handsome demon tsked, "It's going to be quite a show now that he's awakened, with one of the Three Titans, the Heath family, supporting him. I don't believe the Second Prince won't retaliate. Just wait and see the chaos that will ensue in the capital."

Aruda had initially intended to take Wen Ying shopping for school supplies, but something seemed to have come up. After bringing Wen Ying back to the castle, another demon came to summon her. Wen Ying glanced at the demon, who was dressed lavishly and appeared to hold some status.

With regret, Aruda set aside her plan to buy school items for Wen Ying, handing him a book and leaving him with some dried food. She explained that she had some matters to attend to and might not return for a few days before departing with the demon.

The provisions were in the form of large leaf-wrapped rice cakes, with a texture akin to rice burgers, suitable for consumption either as is or heated.

The notebook Aruda provided contained an array of poisons, detailing all the medications in the small crossbody bag, their antidotes, and simple ways to identify toxic herbs.

Wen Ying deeply felt the dangers of the demon world and spent the whole night memorizing everything.

The next morning, Aruda had yet to return. Wen Ying consumed one of the provisions and began his card-making project. However, many spells had reached a bottleneck, requiring him to witness their casting again before he could replicate them on cards, such as the speed-enhancing spell.

Wen Ying sighed and decided to focus on what he could accomplish first, like Beros' Flaming Embers, allowing him to produce more R-ranked cards.

Three days passed swiftly. During this time, Wen Ying remained within the castle's walls, living a virtually isolated existence. On the fourth day, Aruda returned, joyfully pushing open the door with Wen Ying's admission letter in hand.

"Little Yin, you can attend classes at the Lucifer Demon Academy tomorrow morning!" Aruda exclaimed happily. Wen Ying emerged from his room, anticipation also evident on his face.

The prospect of a demonic university sounded intriguing. He wondered what kind of subjects would be taught. Receiving the admission letter from Aruda, Wen Ying felt its smooth, unusually thick paper.

As soon as he held it, the letter shimmered magically, projecting a magnificent and grand academy before his eyes. The projection lasted for about ten seconds before disappearing.

The notification read: "Congratulations to Student Wen Ying for securing the top position and being admitted to our academy. After selection, you have been assigned to Class One."

Instead of a specialized track, it was a class? Wen Ying was most perplexed by this first place ranking. As he looked up, Aruda interrupted his impending question, saying, "His Majesty the Devil King believes that the third test best reflects the conditions in the Demon Realm. The unexpected situations were meant to test everyone's true strength, hence the final result is based solely on that round."

    Ah, well...

Wen Ying felt a mix of emotions. As a half-demon who had just transitioned from being human, he had somehow become the top performer?

"Grandma, there shouldn't be any special duties for being first, right?"

Aruda pondered for a moment before shaking her head. “I haven’t heard anything.”

That was good. Wen Ying looked at the admission notice with delight, wishing he could send this demonic realm's admission letter to the human world to make his parents happy.

First place! He had been weak and sickly since childhood, absent from school for a third of each semester. Forget about grades, his parents just hoped he could complete a full semester without having to withdraw due to illness.

Wen Ying's eyes curved in happiness as he held onto the admission notice tightly. This was equivalent to being the provincial top scorer in the human world's college entrance exam!

Seeing Wen Ying so thrilled, Aruda also smiled, her eyes narrowing into a slit. It seemed that Old Mirror’s long-cherished wish might come true, as the child was overjoyed to be admitted to Class One.

Still unaware of what Class One entailed, Wen Ying was too excited to calm down. That night, he placed the admission letter on his bedside table, contemplating when he would return to the Human Realm.

Satisfied with these thoughts, he drifted off to sleep. In his dream, he held the admission letter and returned to the Human Realm. His family gathered for a celebratory banquet, with all their relatives in attendance. Everyone praised him for his accomplishments, saying that he had made them proud.

Wen Dingjue suddenly stood up, holding a glass of wine, declaring that he had taken his first step towards becoming a Devil King. The crowd erupted into applause. Suddenly, the door was knocked on, and a familiar yet unfamiliar male voice echoed, just like the one he heard with his great-grandfather when they hastily fled to the Devil Realm in desperation:

"Hello, we're here to check the water meter."

Wen Ying jolted awake, gasping for breath.

"Holy crap, that dream felt ominous…" Wen Ying, still shaken, muttered.

This foreboding sensation lingered over Wen Ying until he finished his morning routine and mostly forgot about the dream. Only then did he feel relieved.

Aruda had prepared a lavish breakfast. An unknown cut of meat, seared to perfection with a hint of smokiness, was brushed with honey, making it even more appetizing. A salad of crisp vegetables was drizzled with a creamy, golden sauce. The eggs and sausages were cooked to perfection, and the milk from an unidentified magical beast in his cup exuded a rich, creamy aroma.

With such a bountiful breakfast, Wen Ying put aside his last remnants of unease and indulged heartily.

After breakfast, he slung his beloved retro-style shoulder bag, a family heirloom from his great-grandmother, over his shoulder and flew towards the Lucifer Demon Academy. Aruda wanted to accompany him, but Wen Ying politely declined. He knew his way around and was determined to start his independent life as a demon, embracing the wonders of campus life.

Despite being in the Realm of Demons, Wen Ying was eagerly looking forward to a healthy campus life.

After passing through the bustling and majestic capital, he caught sight of the Lucifer Demon Academy, where numerous young devils flew around in the sky, mostly heading to the academy. Few were accompanied by adults.

Whether in the Human Realm or the Devil Realm, teenagers at this age disliked having adults tagging along.

Upon entering the Lucifer Demon Academy, one couldn't fly anymore. Everyone landed at the main entrance and presented their admission notices to the staff who seemed like security guards. After confirmation, they could proceed inside.

The guard before Wen Ying glanced at his admission notice and then at him, wearing an expression of disbelief. He sized up Wen Ying from head to toe, leaving the latter confused. Eventually, he gestured for Wen Ying to enter.

The Lucifer Academy was enormous. Upon entering, Wen Ying stood before the black dragon statue in the square, scanning his surroundings to figure out which way to go.
