Chapter 179: Homework
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 179: Homework
Boros's lips curled into a mocking curve. "Tell them that my blood was just given to Aruda."
Wen Ying froze. "Then how about some hair? We need something from you as a token for those exorcists anyway."
Boros's crimson eyes narrowed into slits, exuding a perilous aura.
"Earlier, I mentioned being assigned a task by the Demon King," Wen Ying said blindly. "He should inform you officially in due time."
Beros seized Wen Ying's arm, "Speak."
Wen Ying extended his hand towards Peloros.
Boros's face darkened, and with rough movements, he violently tugged out some fur from his ears atop his head.
Wen Ying took it over and gave it a glance. It was evident that Berros's expression had darkened even further.
These fur on the ears also possesses some magic, affiliated with the element of fire.
"Very well," Wen Ying deftly stowed the plucked fur of Bellos into his spatial bracelet, "But remember, don't mention this to anyone else."
"The Devil King has a proposal for us. He wants the thirty demons from Class One to attend a demon hunter school in the Human Realm for study exchange."
Bellos wore an expression of disbelief, and before he could utter a word, Wen Ying swiftly covered his mouth.
"On the surface, it's an exchange program, but in reality, the Devil King aims for a cultural invasion," Wen Ying spoke rapidly, "He wants humans to become relaxed in their vigilance against us, even to the point of accepting us as a part of their lives."
Boros removed his hand from Wen Ying's, his expression contemplative.
Wen Ying proceeded, "The task the Demon King assigned to me is to handle this matter. I've negotiated it – we need to establish equal contracts with the students within the academy. That's why I need something from each of you. You choose, not them."
"Contract?" Boros's brows knitted slightly.
Wen Ying patted Boros on the shoulder. "To contribute to the demons' invasion of the human world."
"Little Ying, are you back?"
Alruda emerged from the hallway, holding a box in his hand, which he placed into Belos's palms.
Belos accepted it with both hands and whispered, "Thank you."
"All part of the exchange," Alruda chuckled, turning to look at Wen Ying.
"You've lost weight since you left. The magic concentration in the human world is low, and there's not much nutritious food," Alruda observed Wen Ying with concern. "I'll have to fatten you up properly. You were fertilizing that tree all along, so how did you still lose weight?"
Belos: "..." Alruda needed an eye exam; this bastard looked plump and certainly wasn't thinning.
"Lord Alruda, I'll take my leave first," Belos said, wanting to distance himself from the scene.
Wen Ying grabbed his arm. "Stay for dinner tonight too, and bring me some more fur while you're at it."
Belos slowly turned his head, his icy crimson gaze enough to make ordinary demons tremble. But Wen Ying remained unfazed, as if blind, and casually asked, "Grandma, do we have extra ingredients for dinner?"
"There are, Belos. It's no problem for you to stay for dinner."
Belos slowly withdrew his cold stare, lowering his eyes as he began to ponder where things had gone wrong.
In the demonic realm, most demons were terrified of him; a single glance from him could send them scurrying away in fear. Only his father was an exception.
Initially, Wen Ying had also been afraid of him. His stiff body and fearful expression couldn't be concealed. But when did Wen Ying become capable of calmly defying his wrath?
Boros didn't experience any typical romantic transformation that protagonists and heroines might undergo in novels, such as "he's not afraid of me" or "he caught my attention." All he could think about was his Father Number Two.
After dinner, Wen Ying discreetly dismissed Aruda and once again approached Boros for his history homework.
"Write it yourself."
Boros had come to request a special physique-enhancing magical potion from Aruda. This potion would strengthen his body, increasing his strength, agility, and senses to their peak before adulthood. That way, he'd become even more powerful after reaching maturity.
Lately, he had been preoccupied with physical training and hadn't done any homework. But he wouldn't let Wen Ying know this.
Unbeknownst to Wen Ying, the seemingly emotionless Boros also hadn't completed his assignments. After pestering him for a long time without getting permission to copy, Wen Ying grew frustrated and pulled out quite a bit of Boros's ear fur, leaving his ears visibly thinner.
Reluctantly allowing himself to be spared from a beating, Wen Ying sighed and started on his homework, beginning with the potions assignment he was more proficient in, saving history for last.
Before going to sleep that night, Wen Ying stared at the ceiling, his mind suddenly struck by a brilliant idea.
As Lan Jiaying, dedicated to making the Devil King proud, his workload was undoubtedly heavy, and he might have even completed it.
After Wen Ying inquired from Aruda about Lan Jiaying's current residence, he eagerly set off to find him.
When he left the Devil Realm some time ago, Lan Jiaying had been living in the Devil King's castle. But after recently emerging from seclusion, he had moved to live on Flame Mountain, supposedly to take advantage of the hot springs there for enhancing his demonic power.
No demons were present at Lan Jiaying's villa, so Wen Ying entered unobstructed. Lan Jiaying was currently cultivating within the hot spring, with the magical energy within it flowing steadily and gently into his body. His long, golden hair floated on the water's surface, shimmering softly.
His profile was god-like in its beauty, and the spinning dragon horns on his head added an ominous touch to his lofty appearance.
Hearing footsteps, the blond demon opened his eyes, furrowing his brow even before looking up.
"Wen Ying, barging into my home without permission – you're becoming increasingly brazen."
Stopping five meters away from the hot spring, Wen Ying smiled. "I came for something important. When I called out to you outside and you didn't respond, I decided to come in."
Lan Jiaying stepped out of the hot spring, and after the sound of splashing water, Wen Ying saw that Lan Jiaying had already dried himself and donned a simple robe with his demonic power within seconds.
"I hope you have a good reason for this."
Wen Ying sensed the surrounding demonic energy beginning to stir, gathering purposefully. The oppressive presence from Lan Jiaying felt even more intense than before, indicating that his strength had significantly improved over this period.
"It's a task given to me by the Demon King," Wen Ying said calmly, not missing the subtle shift in Lan Jiaying's gaze. He lounged casually onto a chair nearby, and Lan Jiaying followed, asking, "What kind of task?"
"One related to occupying the Human Realm."
Lan Jiaying's pupils constricted into narrow slits, resembling those of a cold-blooded predator as his aggression reached its peak. The hot spring beside them bubbled furiously due to the infernal magic at play.
"Why would he give you such a mission first?"
Lan Jiaying's tone sounded calm, but his voice was low and hoarse, like that of a wild animal whose territory had been invaded. His body bristled with tension, claws bared like razor-sharp blades, and every muscle strained visibly.
A deep, ominous growl rumbled in his throat, sending shivers down Wen Ying's spine.
Despite provoking Lan Jiaying multiple times before, he had never seen such a transformation. Staring into the other's almost linear, unnerving vertical pupils, Wen Ying raised his hands halfway in surrender.
"Perhaps he thinks I appear harmless enough to communicate with humans?"
He muttered to himself, wondering what kind of pampered demon baby this was. Did Lan Jiaying grow up being nursed by the Devil King himself?
Lan Jiaying's brows knitted tightly, and the temperature around him remained high. "Why are you here today? To show off?"
His right hand lifted up slightly, fingers bending halfway inward, as if he would strike at Wen Ying the moment he nodded in agreement.
When it came to the Devil King, Lan Jiaying was even more frenzied than Beros. Wen Ying had no intention of fighting with Lan Jiaying that day, so he didn't tease him further and directly stated his purpose. "I'm here for a bit of your blood..."
A terrifying gust of wind accompanied by the sound of air being split rushed towards Wen Ying's face.
"I've consulted the Devil King about this matter!"
Lan Jiaying's fist stopped just before Wen Ying's nose, the intense demonic energy it carried blowing back Wen Ying's long silver hair for a dozen seconds.
"It doesn't have to be blood. You can give me something else. Beros gave me the fur from his ear."
Wen Ying extended his index finger, pushing aside Lan Jiaying's fist. He explained to Lan Jiaying the matter of the Devil King wanting Class One to study in the Human Realm next semester. When it came to signing a contract with exorcists, Wen Ying used the same approach as he did with Beros, covering the other person's mouth first, then releasing them once he finished speaking.
Lan Jiaying's brows were deeply furrowed. He was unwilling to sign a contract with a human, but it was also part of their plan to conquer the human realm. His proud heart was torn.
Wen Ying sat patiently, awaiting his deliberation. He scanned Lan Jiaying from head to toe, appreciating the athletic physique, while also assessing what materials he could acquire from the demon.
The bodies of demons were truly exceptional. Wen Ying had observed that most possessed well-defined muscles, exuding a blend of aesthetic beauty and power. Whether slender or muscular, their physiques adhered to an appealing standard.
After becoming accustomed to such physiques, ordinary demons no longer held much appeal. Recently, upon returning to the human world, he found himself somewhat uncomfortable with the curves and faces of ordinary people on the streets.
"Lan Jiaying," he finally relented, barely managing a single word.
Wen Ying had anticipated that with the command of a Demon King, Lan Jiaying would quickly comply. However, the demon's pride surpassed even his expectations.
"By the way, can I borrow your history assignment?" Wen Ying suddenly asked.
"What for?"
"I need to copy it."
"Get lost."
Wen Ying explained, "I'm on a mission for Lord Devil King, and I don't have time to do homework. If I were to focus on homework, the mission would be delayed."
Lan Jiaying looked at Wen Ying coldly for a while before entering the house and tossing him several notebooks.
Wen Ying was overjoyed, fearing that Lan Jiaying might change his mind. He quickly stored the exercise books in his spatial bracelet. "Don't worry, I will definitely focus on completing the task assigned by the Demon King."
As Wen Ying finished packing, he took out a syringe. "Let's start on the Demon King's mission now."
Seeing Lan Jiaying approaching eagerly with the syringe, he remained silent...
Not only did Wen Ying draw several tubes of blood from Lan Jiaying, but he also cut off a lock of his golden hair. Before Lan Jiaying could lose his patience, Wen Ying hurriedly rolled away to the next house.
There weren't many demonic classmates in the capital; most had returned to their own homes. High-ranking demons like the Butterfly-Scaled Merfolk had vast territories of their own. Since Wen Ying felt dizzy using teleportation arrays, he first harvested the classmates in the capital before checking the routes to other locations.
He first went to Muershi, who lived in the territory of the Wicked Birds.
Muershi had already heard about the news of the few classmates in the capital. When Wen Ying came asking for blood, he wasn't surprised at all. In fact, he even volunteered to help Wen Ying collect blood from the demons in Class One.
Since Wen Ying felt dizzy using teleportation arrays, Muershi took some of the demonic assignments. As for those demons that Wen Ying wanted to extract more from, like the Butterfly-Scaled Merfolk, Wen Ying went to visit them personally.
