Chapter 287: Crisis
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 287: Crisis
In the Flower Planting Nation, there was no supreme authority; power was dispersed among several Holy Sons and Daughters. At this moment, they sat in the council chamber, staring blankly at the message sent from the Church's headquarters.
After a long silence, a black-haired Holy Son spoke, "What do you think the headquarters means by this?"
Another Holy Son with almond-shaped eyes commented, "Do you think the Fallen Stone Creatures can reproduce?"
The two spoke almost simultaneously, locking eyes before quickly looking away.
The Long-haired Holy Maiden said, "Shouldn’t the focus now be on the fact that the response from headquarters is different from before? There’s only one sentence."
Headquarters responded with but one sentence —— The Ant Demon is a creature of the Fallen Stone, and there is no need for concealment.
The long-haired Holy Maiden nervously gripped the edge of her seat. "They've abandoned us."
The black-haired saint scoffed nonchalantly, "You're thinking too much."
The long-haired Holy Maiden scoffed coldly, "Single-minded."
"You!"
The Holy Son with peach blossom eyes pondered amidst the two's bickering and mocking, then said, "Recently, we've lost all the crucial missions assigned to us by headquarters."
The voices of the two people beside him fell silent.
"The netizens are clamoring for an explanation," the Holy Son with peach blossom eyes continued, "Let's just be straightforward about it. Anyway, we genuinely know nothing, and we've dispatched support as well. Moreover..."
The Holy Son paused, his gaze filled with doubt, "Can those Fallen Stone creatures reproduce?" The number of ants outside was truly astonishing.
...
Wen Ying also wondered if the Fallen Stone creatures could reproduce. Heaven knew what the Archangel Church had done to make such ants spread across the entire world in great numbers. They gathered like ordinary ants, and their strength was tremendous. When they grew to be half a human's height, their power became particularly terrifying.
They even regarded humans around them as prey, and upon the appearance of ant swarms in various regions, most ordinary people who encountered them directly had perished.
Ordinary ants already struck fear into the hearts of ordinary people, while the swarm leaders were akin to death gods. One kind had emerald green bodies with bright black rings and could spray poisonous mist from its tail; another was two to three times the size of ordinary soldier ants; one could spin webs like a spider; and another had a burning flame at the end of its tail...
Looking at the information Ye Wang had sent over, complete with pictures and text, it made Wen Ying's head ache.
Does the Church intend to trigger an apocalyptic event in the human world? Since the appearance of the Fallen Stone Ants late last night until this noon, several small nations have vanished from the map, their downfall occurring so swiftly that rescue efforts were unable to keep up.
The first class of the day was still in session when, after twenty minutes, it was abruptly halted across the entire school. Teachers hurried to a meeting and returned with new lesson plans, leading all classes in a unified study on these newly emerged Fallen Stone Ants.
At that time, Wen Ying had yet to receive Ye Wang's detailed report on the ants, and thus found the situation perplexing. In terms of combat strength, most first- and second-year students in the academy were still novices. Why would the academy be in such a rush to teach about the ants?
Throughout the morning, every class learned how to deal with these ant monsters.
After class, Wen Ying reviewed the detailed information Ye Wang had sent about the ants, his face filled with astonishment.
It seemed that several ordinary exorcists were needed to deal with a single ordinary ant soldier. On the demonic side, due to the suppression of their power in the human realm, a single demonic soldier could only handle three or four ants at a time.
As for the ant leaders, it was estimated that hundreds of demonic soldiers would be needed to match them in battle.
What was terrifying was that there were at least thousands of ordinary ant soldiers in each group, and ant leaders were not rare creatures. Dozens had already been discovered within the Flower Nation, initially limited to just a few provinces. By the time they started their morning class, new ant leaders were being discovered successively in various provinces.
There were numerous ants but not enough exorcists, and most of the latter were of moderate to low skill levels. Within less than twenty-four hours of contact, the exorcists suffered heavy losses, as did the warriors providing support from different regions.
The true horrors of the frontlines were not reported by the media out of fear of sparking widespread panic in society.
Falling Rock Ants rampaged unchecked, and the Radical Faction took advantage to cause havoc everywhere. The top echelons of the nation were under immense pressure, especially Disaster Management Minister Yan Liwen, whose hair had visibly turned much grayer.
