Chapter 174: Dinner
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 174: Dinner
With the demonic fog concealing his face, the demon's expression was invisible, leaving the five exorcists unable to read it. All they could hear was his sincere and gentle voice, brimming with earnestness.
It's impolite to refuse someone with a friendly demeanor, and this applied to well-spoken, faultless demons as well. For a moment, Chang Ningsheng and the others couldn't think of any further precautions to take.
"Wen Ying smiled, "If you don't mind, you can spend the night upstairs. The fourth floor is our guest accommodation. Also, we've just received a batch of ingredients from the Demon Realm. If you're willing, why not try some of our Demon Realm cuisine tonight?"
"Ingredients from the Demon Realm?" Lu Rongyu murmured, sounding curious.
Yang Ying turned her head. "You're interested in Demon Realm ingredients?"
Lu Rongyu replied, "I came across a book about Demon Realm food in the school library before."
"I recall that the ingredients from the Demon Realm seem to be..." Tan Qingqing didn't finish her sentence, but glanced at Lu Rongyu, who nodded slightly.
"There are such books in the school library?" Wei Zheng scratched his head, looking perplexed. "Ningsheng, have you seen them too?"
Chang Ningsheng answered, "Mm-hm."
Wen Ying's smile widened beneath the veil of black mist, a familiar sign to Muershi that he was about to dig a trap. With a sweet and sincere tone, Wen Ying said, "My cooking skills are passable. If you all stay, I'll personally prepare a demonic feast for you."
"Are you really making it?" Wei Zheng blinked, whispering to Chang Ningsheng, "Why don't we give it a try? He probably wouldn't dare to poison us at a time like this, anyway."
After some thought, Chang Ningsheng observed the expressions of the others, who all seemed intrigued. Thus, he nodded and said to Wen Ying, "In that case, thank you. Tomorrow, come to our school, and I'll personally cook a human realm delicacy for you."
"Thank you, San Lin. Take them to the fourth floor to choose their rooms," Wen Ying instructed the demon at the door. "Later, lead them to the dining area in the basement for dinner."
San Lin replied, "Understood."
"Follow me, everyone," San Lin led the group away, his mind preoccupied with what he had overheard outside. That devilish mirror preparing a meal himself? He didn't seem like someone capable of cooking, given his carefree and arrogant demeanor.
Speaking of which, Chief Justice Ye Wang and Deputy Chief Justice Kirishino sometimes mentioned missing demonic cuisine during meals. San Lin wasn't qualified to contact the demonic realm, nor did he hold an exceptional status. Even when Ye Wang occasionally managed to obtain some demonic food, San Lin never got to see it. Now, he was curious about what Wen Ying's feast would look like.
As they left, Wen Ying rubbed his hands together, his lips curving up almost to the level of the sun. His silver-gray eyes gleamed with excitement.
In the kitchen on the lower basement level, Wen Ying hummed a cheerful tune as he prepared the ingredients. The thought of the expressions on those people's faces when they saw the "feast" made his heart race with anticipation. A mysterious flush appeared on his cheeks, and his face lit up with a radiant smile.
Back upstairs, the five exorcists selecting their rooms inexplicably felt a chill down their spines.
Tan Qingqing said, "The wind blowing into this room is rather chilly. I don't want this room."
Nightfall soon arrived, and San Lin came to lead them down to the second basement floor for dinner.
The demons in the headquarters of the Judgment Bureau had long heard from San Lin that the Mirror Demon who effortlessly defeated the Chief Examiner was personally cooking a meal for the exorcists tonight. Before the five exorcists even descended, they had already sneaked peeks at the dishes on the table.
Unfortunately, all the dishes were covered with lids, leaving them disappointed.
San Lin brought the five of them over and they took their seats.
Looking at the plates on the table, Tan Qingqing whispered in amazement, "So many dishes!"
Wen Ying walked over, and Tan Qingqing said, "You didn't need to make so much. It's too troublesome, and we feel rather embarrassed."
"It's alright," Wen Ying replied as he carried the last dish over. Catching sight of San Lin lingering behind, he smiled and asked, "San Lin, do you want to try my cooking as well?"
San Lin turned around, clearly surprised but hesitant in his tone. "I don't think it's appropriate in this setting..."
"Join us. We're just ordinary exorcists, not important figures."
Lu Rongyu's voice was gentle and melodious, with a magnetic quality that conveyed an air of politeness and refinement upon hearing it.
