Chapter 263: Calling the Police
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 263: Calling the Police
In the early morning, Lin Gubing, who was sleeping beside Shi Cailing, was startled awake by her shrill scream. The volume of her voice made his heart skip a beat and his head buzz.
Shi Cailing's cry also woke up the neighbors in the building. One with a short temper opened their window to shout, "Are you crazy? I still have to go to work!"
"Demons! There are demons!"
Shi Cailing's voice was just as loud. The neighbors, hearing muffled words, were jolted awake by the clear mention of "demons." The nearby residents, now completely devoid of sleep, quickly dismissed their annoyance at being disturbed and hurried to get dressed to escape.
"What demons?" Lin Gubing, terrified, asked, "Where are they?"
Shi Cailing lunged forward and yelled into his face, "Wen Ying! Wen Ying and Wen Qinxue are demons!"
Lin Gubing responded, "…You're still asleep, aren't you? You must be dreaming."
With her eyes wide as saucers, Shi Cailing stared at him with an insane gaze, making Lin Gubing feel uneasy. "Snap out of it."
Raising her voice even higher, she exclaimed, "You don't believe me? I saw Wen Ying kill three exorcists who came to purify the demons with my own eyes!"
Lin Gubing listened to her nonsensical words and was speechless. "Where did you see three exorcists?"
"Just at our house."
Lin Gubing was even more speechless and didn't want to argue with Shi Cailing. "Why would exorcists come to our place? You must be really confused from oversleeping."
Shi Cailing rushed to the living room, declaring confidently while running, "I have evidence. Come look at the living room—"
Upon reaching the living room, Shi Cailing was dumbfounded. The room was spotless, with no bloodstains from the exorcist on the floor. Looking at the railings, they were also completely intact. Shi Cailing felt disoriented, then gazed at the bright daylight outside, feeling as if she was in a dream.
"I must have been under a spell!" Shi Cailing quickly dismissed the notion that she had been dreaming. She knelt down where there had been blood last night for a closer inspection.
The living room had wooden floors, making it difficult to discern any residue of blood. However, Shi Cailing still found proof that she wasn't dreaming.
The young one hadn't cleaned up thoroughly – there were a few faint brownish stains at the corner where the floor met the wall!
"Come here and look!" Shi Cailing pulled Lin Gubing over.
Lin Gubing commented, "This must be from someone accidentally kicking dirt onto the floor."
"Why won't you believe it!" Shi Cailing shouted. "Where's Wen Ying? Right, Tianbao! I have to keep Tianbao away from them! And the Wens! I need everyone to know that the Wens are devils! How can a food company be run by devils? They might secretly put something harmful in there!"
Lin Gubing scratched his head, still half-asleep with his mind not fully awake. He was impatient with Shi Cailing, who seemed to have suddenly gone mad after what might have been a dream.
"They're in the guest room downstairs. Snap out of it; people might think you've lost your mind if they see you like this."
"But Lin Hang just got married yesterday. If his in-laws found out, how would we save face?"
Undeterred, Shi Cailing was about to rush downstairs to confront Wen Ying and Wen Qinxue. However, with each step, the vivid memories from last night replayed in her mind, sending shivers down her spine, causing her to hesitate.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm making a call."
Lin Gubing felt an explosive pain in his temples. As he looked at Shi Cailing, she had already picked up her phone and was dialing.
"You're really out of your mind. Give me the phone!"
In the struggle for the device, Shi Cailing clutched onto it fiercely. Amidst their tussle, the call connected.
"Hello, how can I assist you?"
Lin Gubing: "No! We dialed the wrong number..."
Shi Cailing shouted, "There's a demon! In Building 1, Unit 6 of Tianxia Garden! A demon!"
Lin Gubing panicked, "No, no such thing. She's just dreaming."
"But there really is a demon! They've killed three exorcists already!"
The person on the other end was initially skeptical but, upon hearing about the exorcists, promptly replied, "Alright, we'll dispatch our on-duty exorcist right away. Please ensure your safety in the meantime."
"You're truly insane!" Lin Gubing felt like banging his head against a wall. "How will Wen Ying and Wen Qinxue view us now? Do you still think Tianbao can take over the Wen family's business with this commotion today? There'll surely be resentment among the Wens, and they won't hand the company over to Tianbao!"
"If the exorcists capture them all, wouldn't the company belong to Tianbao?" Shi Cailing's fear turned into excitement. It was great that there was a demon; if it took over the company, it would be theirs.
That company must be worth billions.
Seeing Shi Cailing so convinced, Lin Gubing couldn't help but doubt the authenticity of the situation.
Soon, the exorcists arrived.
Wen Ying had stayed up late the previous night. Although he had anticipated being awakened early the next morning, the headache from lack of sleep made him irritable when it actually happened.
The knocking persisted.
"Coming," Wen Ying muttered, ruffling his hair as he slipped on his shoes to answer the door.
Two unfamiliar faces greeted him outside – the exorcists. Behind them stood Shi Cailing and Lin Gubing at a distance.
Shi Cailing's morning cries had awoken the neighbors, naturally stirring the Lin family as well. Wen Qinxue had informed Lin Tianbao about the incident last night, so Lin Tianbao was not caught off guard by today's events. However, he remained tense inwardly.
Lin Tianwang stood beside Shi Cailing with a peculiar expression. While they were eager to seize the Wen Corporation for themselves, he found framing the Wens as demons an unproductive tactic.
Could they really be demons? But the Wen Corporation had existed for decades, long before the demons from the Realm of Devils appeared. Besides, with its high profile, how could the exorcists have overlooked it if it were truly a demonic entity?
"Mum, are you sure you're not dreaming? There was no noise upstairs last night."
Shi Cailing whispered confidently, "They must have used magic to soundproof the place."
Wen Ying looked at the two adult men before her, still holding onto the doorknob, and tilted her head to ask, "What can two exorcists like you possibly want?"
Both men were dressed in the uniforms of the Disaster Countermeasures Department.
The moment Wen Ying opened the door, the two exorcists had already been observing her. They found nothing amiss, and after exchanging a glance, one of them said, "Someone… anonymously reported that you're a demon."
"Anonymously?" If the situation hadn't been so tense, Wen Ying might have burst out laughing. This man was quite perceptive and even knew how to mediate family conflicts for Shi Cailing.
The other exorcist appraised Wen Ying with a gentle tone, as if trying to reassure her. "It could also be a mistake. We've just tested your mother's blood with an enchanted potion to assess her magical talent, and there seems to be no issue."
For ordinary reports, exorcists typically used blood tests to assess magical talent, as any connection to demons would usually result in at least a middle to upper tier reading.
However, Wen Qinxue's test result was in the lower middle range.
Looking at the young man before them with a slender frame, they sensed no threat. He seemed like a completely ordinary person, with a demeanor akin to a delicate flower nurtured in a greenhouse, obedient and well-behaved.
"We'll just need a blood sample. Once we test it, we can clear your suspicion in no time."
Shi Cailing snorted softly. In her mind, Wen Ying was definitely a demon.
Wen Ying glanced at Shi Cailing, a hint of contemplation flickering in his eyes. Soon, his gaze returned to the exorcist before him, and he said apologetically, "Could I have my blood drawn after I finish eating? My health isn't too great, and I'm often in the hospital. Drawing blood on an empty stomach might be..."
"Alright, we can wait a bit."
Shi Cailing opened her mouth as if she wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent, leaving with pursed lips.
"Where are you going?" Lin Gubing asked.
"Walking!"
Wen Qinxue watched Shi Cailing's retreating figure, her expression darkening slightly. Her body instinctively moved to follow, but Lin Tianbao held her back, shaking his head slightly.
Wen Ying remained unperturbed; perhaps this was all part of his plan.
A fire burned in Wen Qinxue's chest. If not for the DNA report proving that Lin Tianbao was Shi Cailing's biological child, she would suspect that they had picked him up somewhere.
Wen Ying ate his breakfast at a leisurely pace. His pajamas were loose, and his slender frame made him appear weak and frail. The two exorcists, having no pressing matters at hand, patiently waited for him to finish in the living room.
While Wen Ying was having breakfast, Shi Cailing took a stroll around the neighborhood. After her morning scream and the mention of "demons," many residents now hid indoors, too scared to venture out.
However, there was no response, and many people ventured out to ask their neighbors what was going on.
Now, besides the elderly who were already up early for their morning exercises or strolls, there were also those who had to go to work soon walking around the neighborhood.
Shi Cailing believed that the Wen family, with their extensive influence, might be colluding with the exorcists to cover up the truth. Therefore, she went downstairs directly to expose Wen Ying's demonic nature to anyone she met.
As young people shared the news on social media, the story quickly snowballed, spreading like wildfire. In no time, it became a trending topic on Weibo.
##The Wen Family Are All Demons##
##The Son of the Wen Family's Restaurant Tycoon Commits Murder##
The two exorcists, not idling, picked up their phones to browse, only to stumble upon this trending hashtag. They froze, then glanced at the young man leisurely enjoying his breakfast, feeling speechless.
One of them couldn't help but approach, urging, "Hurry up and finish your meal. We need to get the results of the divination quickly to refute these rumors."
Wen Ying lifted his gaze. "Refute what rumors?"
Wen Qinxue, filled with indignation yet secretly guilt-ridden, said, "Someone is spreading lies that our entire family are demons, and that you committed murder."
Wen Ying calmly set down his chopsticks and reached out to the exorcist, who was visibly worried about him.
The exorcist promptly produced a disposable blood collection tube, drew a vial of blood, and then poured it into the potion used for testing one's talents.
After a while, the color of the potion caused both exorcists' expressions to shift dramatically.
