    Chapter 41: Treasure

The nightlife in the Demon Realm was eerily silent and daunting to those accustomed to human cityscapes. The deep purple sky, tinged with black, bore a full moon that shone like an intense spotlight across the land. However, there were other objects in the heavens.

They appeared to be stars but were crimson in hue. From this distance, they seemed like countless eyes staring down, evoking a spine-tingling sensation.

A hazy mist veiled the Demon Realm's nights, not white but infused with red and purple hues, casting an eerie ambiance. Everything seemed as if it might spring to life as a devil at any moment.

Cheng Haoyuan typically observed the nocturnal Demon Realm through his window. Thanks to the troublesome demons, they rarely ventured out of their dorms at night, adhering to a routine of dormitory, classroom, and cafeteria.

Since arriving in the Demon Realm, they dared not even step beyond the Lucifer Academy's boundaries to explore.

On his first foray into the night, Cheng Haoyuan rubbed his goosebump-ridden arms and quickened his pace towards the cafeteria.

He had to pass through a forest path. The woods were dense, and Cheng Haoyuan felt an ominous premonition. After walking about a hundred meters, he retrieved the Magic Coin from the white demon's card, holding it tightly in his hand.

Perched casually on a tree beside the path, Huiguo watched the approaching lamb with a sense of foreboding. His eyes curved into a smile, a glint of malicious pleasure flickering in his amethyst gaze.

With a flap of his wings, he shot forward like lightning.

    "Ahh- umm."

As expected, Cheng Haoyuan let out a terrified scream. Huiguo, who had anticipated this, swiftly covered his mouth, landing behind him with a hoarse voice that seemed to come straight from the underworld.

    "Teacher, what a coincidence."

The devil behind him bared its fangs. Cheng Haoyuan broke out in a cold sweat from fear, feeling as if he was plummeting into an abyss. Without thinking, instinctively, he extracted magic from the magic coin and infused it into the card given by the white demon.

Huiguo held no regard for a powerless human, not even bothering to restrain him. After all, a mere human couldn't possibly hurt him, even if they tried; their punches would only end up hurting themselves.

It was this arrogance that led to Huiguo being frozen by a basic ice spell, a block of ice forming around him on the spot.

    Huiguo: "????"

Cheng Haoyuan seized the chance to escape, running away while screaming for help in terror.

It took Huiguo a few seconds to break free from the ice, but instead of immediately pursuing Cheng Haoyuan, he stood there, eyes wide in disbelief, questioning his entire existence as a demon.

Not only had he been frozen by a human using a basic ice spell, but how could that human use magic in the first place? He hadn't heard the recitation of any incantation.

Amidst Huiguo's mental turmoil, he suspected that the icy spell just now was the work of a nearby demon. He warily scanned his surroundings. The forest lining the path was eerily quiet, with no wind tonight. A light mist shrouded the depths, making it difficult to see clearly.

    Did they leave?

Closing his eyes, Huiguo meticulously searched for any nearby auras. After a while, he reopened them, a mix of confusion and caution in his gaze.

How peculiar. Having missed the optimal moment to chase after Cheng Haoyuan, Huiguo could only return to his dormitory, frustrated and full of uncertainty, to ponder over the situation.

In the Eternal Forest Castle, Wen Ying paused in stroking the eggshell. He stood up, cradling the white egg, and walked to the window. This window happened to face the direction of the academy.

A card had been touched by Cheng Haoyuan, and Huiguo seemed to want to vent his frustration from the day on him. Wen Ying's lips curled up slowly, and as the white devil smiled, the untainted holiness was slashed by cunning, revealing that he was a devil, not an angel.

He needed to think of a suitable magic to play on Cheng Haoyuan and the others, preferably something that would mess with Huiguo and his group.

    ...

The next morning, as soon as Wen Ying entered the classroom, he saw Cheng Haoyuan gesturing to him by the window, asking him to step outside.

"What does that human want with you?" Muershi asked casually.

Wen Ying casually replied, "Doing something interesting."

As Wen Ying walked out, Cheng Haoyuan promptly took out a magic coin from his pocket and handed it to Wen Ying. Looking around, he lowered his voice and said gratefully, "If not for your card yesterday, I might've died. I don't even know how to thank you."

This white devil had shown him that there were demons, apart from Feng Luo who worked in HR, who held goodwill towards humans, preventing him from feeling utterly hopeless.

"I sensed it. He made a move yesterday," Wen Ying caught the magic coin Cheng Haoyuan passed him and tossed it nonchalantly. "How did it feel to use magic?"

Cheng Haoyuan scratched his cheek in embarrassment. "To be honest, I didn't even take a look before running away. Actually, I came here today because I have something to ask of you."

"Feng Luo advanced us three months' salary, so this morning, I exchanged it with him for these magic coins..."

Wen Ying interrupted, "Did he ask why you wanted to exchange them?" He felt that Feng Luo was quite cautious.

Cheng Haoyuan pondered for a moment and said uncertainly, "He didn't ask. It just felt casual. He directly took the magic coins out of a spatial item and gave them to me."

"Alright, no issues there. You mentioned earlier that you had something to ask of me?"

"Yes!" Cheng Haoyuan lowered his voice as if they were engaging in an illicit transaction. "I would like to ask you to sell me and my friend some of those magic cards you had yesterday. If the price is too high, please give us some time to prepare the purchase fee."

Wen Ying felt a sense of intrigue. An idea had just flashed across his mind, and Cheng Haoyuan's words were like a treasure map, connecting him to numerous possibilities.

"Yesterday's was just the most ordinary one, not worth much. You can just give me some money as a gesture."

Wen Ying curved his eyes, retrieving from his spatial bracelet a collection of cards embedded with basic magic, both defensive and offensive.

The White Devil had casually bestowed these precious life-saving cards upon him. Cheng Haoyuan was ecstatic but still insisted, "Don't worry, we're not the type to take advantage. I'll discuss it with them and make sure we give you a fair price."

With that, Cheng Haoyuan placed the cards carefully into his pocket, his hand guarding them, fearful that they might fall out during his hasty departure.

Watching Cheng Haoyuan's departing figure, Wen Ying stroked his chin, contemplating a brilliant business plan. In this scheme, Cheng Haoyuan and his group were merely a small part; the major player would be the entire Demon Realm!

The three-headed dog, Berossus, made from flaming ashes, had inspired Wen Ying. He had previously sketched a simplified cartoon version of Essence on a card. If he could fix the magic's form to a specific appearance, say Essence...

Wen Ying imagined that when the duplicated Enchantment spell was activated, Essence's image would appear. Picture a succubus casting her alluring gaze and using her enchantment magic.

On top of that, there would be the cute, cartoon version. The demon enthusiasts in the Demon Realm who adored Essence would undoubtedly go crazy over these!

In the Human Realm, fans bought piles of merchandise related to their idols. Wen Ying was convinced that the more fanatical "star-chasers" in the Demon Realm wouldn't be able to resist.

In the demon realm, powerful demons were the top stars, and they were basically untoppable. Many demons were naturally star-struck!

Wen Ying could already envision a beautiful scene of a flood of magical coins rolling his way.

Firstly, he needed to... cough, find a cooperative demon.

Class One was filled with mostly Grade-A celebrity-level demons with a large fan base. As Wen Ying entered the classroom and scanned the entire room of demons, they were all money-making machines in his eyes. His gaze was practically turning into a symbol of currency.

The demons who fell under Wen Ying's gaze inexplicably felt a chill. The offspring of these powerful demons couldn't understand why they suddenly had this feeling.

Initially, Wen Ying had planned to target Essence, who seemed the easiest to persuade. However, there was another demon that was even easier to handle. As he walked back to his seat, his eyes locked onto Scarlet, the forgotten slave demon.

Wen Ying flashed Scarlet an innocent smile. Scarlet shivered, sensing something amiss. "Speak up if you have something to say. Your expression is creepy."

Sitting down on his chair, Wen Ying turned around and spoke gently, "Scarlet, aren't you my slave right now? According to the agreement, you're supposed to work tirelessly for me like an ox or a horse for three years."

Scarlet's goosebumps rose when he heard Wen Ying's negotiating tone. "Your intentions are clear. So, what do you want me to do?"

Leaning back casually, Scarlet crossed his arms as he waited for Wen Ying to reveal his 'request'.

Scarlet, a demon, is the designated successor to the throne of the powerful Wyvern clan, which stands at the pinnacle of the demonic hierarchy with numerous followers.

Though Scarlet now appears somewhat mentally challenged in Wen Ying's eyes and isn't particularly outstanding in their class, outside its walls, they are an absolute authority, a child of a revered and idolized mighty demon.

Scarlet is also quite attractive, with a handsome and wild appearance, a robust physique, and golden eyes that intimidate many demons. Despite his arrogance, his actions exude refinement, a result of his privileged upbringing that has bestowed upon him a distinctive aura.

The more Wen Ying looked at Scarlet, the more satisfied he became, his gaze softening to a point where it seemed to overflow with tenderness. This made Scarlet rather uneasy; such a gentle look from this individual was eerily unsettling. Unconsciously, Scarlet glanced at Beros, didn’t Wen Ying like Beros?

Wen Ying held Scarlet's hand, causing Scarlet's hairs to stand on end. "I don't like you!"

Boros's blood-red eyes turned toward him.

"I don't have any romantic feelings for you either," Wen Ying rolled his eyes. "Although your appearance is to my taste, your personality isn't. I just have something I want you to do."

Just as Scarlet heaved a sigh of relief, Wen Ying’s words infuriated him anew. “Hey, as a wyvern demon, can’t you have some self-awareness?” He harrumphed and cast a disdainful glance aside.

"You won't find a bargain like me anywhere else. I'm quite expensive."

Scarlet's gaze happened to land on Boros, who was indeed looking at him. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end once more.

Wen Ying chuckled. "The more expensive, the better."

    Scarlet: "..." What a nutcase.

No matter how eccentric Wen Ying was, with the bet still in place, Scarlet had to reluctantly accept their previous "ox and horse" agreement. After lunch break, Wen Ying and Scarlet dined together, with Wen Ying urging Scarlet to finish his meal quickly so they could head to Wen Ying's dormitory.

Scarlet grew even more uncertain and suspicious. Recalling Wen Ying's comment about his appearance appealing to his taste, Scarlet hesitated at the dormitory entrance, asking skeptically, "What exactly do you want from me? It's all so secretive, and now we're going to your dorm?"

Wen Ying blinked, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Don't worry, I'm not going to eat you. I just want to do something with a bit more effort."

Sharing a desk with Essence, Scarlet's train of thought was somewhat influenced, and he misunderstood the statement quite significantly.

Wen Ying, losing patience with his reluctance to enter, stepped out and gently yet firmly tugged on Scarlet's arm, pulling him inside. The door shut with a resounding thud.

Scarlet leaned against the grand entrance, vigilantly eyeing Wen Ying. Despite being significantly larger in stature than Wen Ying, at this moment he resembled a virtuous householder taken by force, his demeanor betraying an air of vulnerability uncharacteristic of his size.

Wen Ying observed Scarlet's appearance and chuckled softly. "You're a Wyvern Demon, and I'm a Mirror Demon. With your strength, what could I possibly do to you?"

"Who knows," Scarlet muttered under their breath. Aruda had given Wen Ying a great deal of Poison Demon potions. He was still underage, and the power of an immature demon was not yet fully realized.

"Straight to the point, I want to use your image rights," Wen Ying sat down on the chair, crossing his legs. "I plan to create a magic card that uses your appearance to cast spells, and sell it to the demons in the Realm of Magic."

Scarlet took some time to digest Wen Ying's words, her expression stunned. "You want to use my image to make money?" The emphasis in Wen Ying's proposal was not on the power of the magic but on his looks.

"Yes," Wen Ying clapped his hands. "Have you heard of human world celebrities? I want you to be one, and we'll sell merchandise."

Scarlet scoffed. "Are you informing me or asking for my permission?"

Wen Ying blinked, his smile innocent and kind.

Scarlet cut to the chase. "Fifty-fifty split on the earnings, and I have the right to choose which type of magic to use."

Wen Ying held up two fingers. "Twenty percent, and you're a slave."

Scarlet: ".... You're ruthless." Aruda must be really wealthy if she didn't give him an allowance for him to be so stingy.

"Let's start the experiment then," Wen Ying grinned. "I've already thought about it during class. For the first magic, let's start with a simple water manipulation spell. We'll form words in the air with water, like 'I love you' or 'baby~'."

Scarlet: “…. Why do I feel like I want to kill you?” Wen Ying was the first lower-level demon he’d met who was so brazen. Everything he did was humiliating.

Beros stood at the entrance, his path to his own quarters passing by Wen Ying's room. However, he halted and didn't proceed further, repeatedly reminding himself that he was merely passing by. Yet, his ears were keenly attuned to any sounds emanating from within.

The door provided decent sound insulation, so Beros could only catch faint murmurs. Then, a few phrases grew louder.

    "Hurry up, darling."

"One more, I'm cheering you on."

"Mmm... just one more, darling, do your best."

Beros’s eyes widened slowly, the proud young three-headed dog experiencing a thunderbolt-like shock for the first time. His face darkened, a bewildering bitterness souring his heart.

He stood by the door for what seemed like an eternity, only catching a few clear phrases from the conversation before the voices faded into whispers. He stood there, oblivious to the passage of time, unsure why he lingered.

Scarlet was nearly drained by Wen Ying’s antics, his inner weariness reflecting in his sallow expression. Upon opening the door and spotting Beros standing stiffly by the entrance, he almost leaped in surprise. The other’s blood-red eyes stared at him coldly, like eternal ice, while the air around them seemed to carry a scorching heat, creating a paradox of icy spirits and burning flesh.

”It’s almost time for class, why are you still standing at the door?” Wen Ying approached, greeting Beros with a puzzled look. However, Beros left without a word, leaving Wen Ying even more perplexed.

"What's going on?" Wen Ying asked Scarlet.

Scarlet was equally perplexed. His already exhausted brain cells rebelled against the overload of information. After a moment's thought, he suddenly chuckled wickedly, "You're in trouble. Boreas might think we were up to something in there. Even though he resists emotional attachments, your behavior of saying you like him and then coming after me will definitely infuriate him."

Wen Ying wanted to slap Scarlet on the back of his head, "He probably wants to kill you more than me."

Scarlet's smile faded. Boreas' expression earlier did seem as if he wanted to slaughter him. He grew serious, grabbed Wen Ying's hand, and with a throw resembling a javelin, aimed for Boreas who was not far away.

Wen Ying: "???" What kind of nonsense is this... Well, Scarlet is a devil.

"You go explain. I don't want to get beaten for no reason," were the words Wen Ying heard.

As he were about to crash into Beros's broad back, Wen Ying hurriedly used his wings to brake, barely stopping behind Beros, with his toes touching the ground.

Boreas turned his head, silently staring at him with the same cold and arrogant demeanor Wen Ying had first seen. He didn't deliberately make any expressions; just a casual glance of indifference made everything around him seem mundane.

This devil was truly the type of enchanting prince from the poetic phrases found online.

Wen Ying scratched his cheek, "Scarlet threw me over to explain since he doesn't want to get beaten by you."

Boreas tilted his head slightly, asking, "Explain what?"

Wen Ying had lost count of how many times he'd embarrassed himself in front of Belos; there was no getting used to it, only increased awkwardness. He took out the card from the experiment and showed it to Belos. "I came up with a plan to make money. Just now, I had Scarlet cast a water spell in my room, making the streams of water form sentences in mid-air, like 'baby, I love you.' Then I tried to replicate it on this card."

This was truly unfair. Belos didn't like him but forbade him from seeking other demons. Wen Ying sighed inwardly, knowing he needed to find a solution to this ridiculous situation pronto.

A flicker of surprise crossed Belos's dark, crimson eyes, as if something had ignited within them. The strange sense of oppression in his heart dissipated, and his words spilled out faster than his thoughts, "I can do that too."
