Chapter 302: Selection
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 302: Selection
After the discussion, Wen Ying immediately returned to his country to meet Yan Liwen.
Upon learning that Wen Ying had come to see him, Yan Liwen agreed to meet with him without hesitation, personally escorting Wen Ying to his office.
A young attendant served them two cups of tea before leaving. In the corners of the room stood two individuals with straight postures, as if they had a military background. Now, they were exorcists.
Yan Liwen rubbed the rim of his teacup, his tone gentle. "I heard you want to make an important deal with the Calamity Department. Care to share what kind of deal it is?"
Wen Ying had no interest in the tea, so he glanced at it and then looked away. "I discussed something with the Devil King, and he has agreed to it."
At the mention of "Devil King", Yan Liwen's expression became involuntarily serious, the curve of his lips tightening.
Wen Ying continued, "He has consented to allowing some people to enter the Devil Realm. I have managed to secure a piece of land there. Humans can settle down there, not completely safe, but with a certain level of security guaranteed."
"Human settlements?!" Yan Liwen was so astonished that his eyes widened. This was too unbelievable, even someone who could conceal their emotions would be stunned.
The two individuals standing in the corner also revealed a mix of surprise and bewilderment on their expressive faces.
Yan Liwen cleared his throat, adjusting his expression to appear less eager. "Why did you suddenly decide to help humans secure a territory in the Demon Realm? Will the Human Realm also be giving a piece of land to the Demon King?"
"No need," Wen Ying interrupted. "It's just that the laws will weaken their suppression on demonic power."
"!"
Yan Liwen and the other two youths were stunned again, but this time, not with surprise, but fear.
After some deliberation, Yan Liwen cautiously expressed his thoughts. "With humanity's current strength..." There were too many ordinary people. If demons truly had the intent to hunt a few, they wouldn't be able to find the culprits.
"It's only a slight weakening," Wen Ying spoke calmly. "The barrier will eventually disappear anyway."
Yan Liwen's mood turned heavy.
The silver-haired hybrid spoke slowly, "The Demon Realm has a high concentration of magic. Sending some talented humans there to train would be the best choice for enhancing our peak combat strength now."
Yes, this was indeed the best option. The barrier would inevitably fade, but it was uncertain if human peak combat strength could develop. If they could train in the Demon Realm, those with talent should be able to grow.
"You're thinking much about humanity. I thank you on behalf of everyone," Yan Liwen smiled, genuinely grateful. He hoped Wen Ying could sense his heartfelt appreciation. His eyes locked onto Wen Ying, trying to emit the bulb-like glow that paper figurines were known for.
Wen Ying: "..."
Feeling that Wen Ying had received his heartfelt gratitude, Yan Liwen restrained his enthusiasm and asked, "The land you mentioned, is it your fief in the demon realm?"
"It could be considered as such," Wen Ying pondered, "I'm not yet aware which area the Demon King will grant me. There might be demons living there, but they probably won't be the type to brazenly attack."
"That would be more realistic," Yan Liwen expressed no dissatisfaction.
After discussing the follow-up matters and the selection of candidates with Yan Liwen, Wen Ying specified the number of quotas. Yan Liwen was given the responsibility to recommend the candidates himself, promising to hold a fair competition and not waste spots by pushing unqualified relatives through.
Wen Ying didn't give away all the quotas. He reserved some for those who had pledged allegiance to him within the Church.
Yan Liwen's selection process caused quite a stir. He didn't deliberately hide any information; instead, he openly and loudly announced the selection notice, causing the world to boil over.
Not only did the human realm boil, but the demon realm also erupted. Many demons protested against the Demon King's decision, questioning why humans had the right to step foot on their demon realm soil and occupy a piece of land.
There were also elders from the noble families who disapproved. The Demon King had explained how the Law would be weakened and suppressed, but many demons still remained silent in their dissent.
Opinions swirled in the demon realm like chattering birds. The Demon King subtly orchestrated a wave of online supporters. Muershi and Koroy also planned to do the same, but before they could, they discovered that there were already supporters in play. Astounded, they traced the origins of these supporters, only to realize that they seemed to be subtly pointing back to the Demon King.
Not just the Demon King, but several waves of online trolls were battling it out, representing the Demon King as well as other demonic families. It was a chaotic spectacle.
"Mere barriers can't stop the trend of online trolls in our demon realm," Muershi mused, his mood peculiar. It seemed like people learned from bad examples rather than good ones.
In City B, within a spacious villa with gardens front and back—
A demon with golden hair and dark eyes entered through an ornately patterned iron gate, exuding a powerful aura and bearing the demeanor and elegance of nobility as he made his way inside.
In the front yard, there was a swimming pool from which another demon emerged. His muscles were full and firm, his abdominal lines distinct, and his long legs muscular. Just by looking at his physique, one could feel a sense of pressure akin to being confronted by a fierce behemoth, radiating an aura that warned others not to provoke him.
"Lan Jiaying, hasn't Wen Ying been absent for quite some time?" The newcomer said coldly, eyeing Beros as he climbed out of the pool with a critical expression.
Beros paused in his climb out of the pool, sizing up the intruder. Something seemed off about this guy today.
"What brings you here?" Beros stepped out of the water, using magic to dry himself before pulling on a bathrobe draped over a nearby lounge chair. The deep V-neckline emphasized his sexiness, making him seem like a walking hormone.
Lan Jiaying's gaze appraised him like he was a commodity, causing Beros' aggression to rise. He spoke in a low voice, "You have something to say?"
"Wen Ying, he…" Lan Jiaying hesitated, a faint trace of discomfort appearing on his handsome, proud, and noble face as he averted his gaze. "Has his interest in you waned?"
Boros's aura froze for a few seconds, his expression blank. Soon, it twisted in a subtle yet ugly manner. "Scram, it has nothing to do with you."
Lan Jiaying was also surprised. "Looking at you like this, could it be true?"
Boros had always been short-tempered. His magic power surged impulsively, responding to his instinctive rage. Lan Jiaying countered the assault by activating his own magic power. The two demons' powers clashed invisibly in the air and then exploded silently, stirring up a strong gust of wind on the spot.
Lan Jiaying felt heavy-hearted. The Demon King had instructed him to keep an eye on those cunning humans, preventing them from having the chance to catch Wen Ying's attention. He had been observing Wen Ying for quite a few days and noticed that Boros had never appeared by Wen Ying's side. Instead, there were many decent-looking young humans around, who were also outstanding individuals among their kind.
"What exactly are you here for?" Boros was in a terrible mood, but it didn't stop him from being puzzled. This kind of topic should have been brought up by a devil like Muershi, not Lan Jiaying, whose words sounded like a ghost story. Boros scrutinized Lan Jiaying carefully, making sure that he wasn't under any mind control.
Lan Jiaying replied, "I came to see why you're so useless that you can't even keep a Mirror Demon."
Boros endured as much as he could, but eventually, he unleashed a blazing inferno at Lan Jiaying within three seconds.
The blue flames collided with the black flames, creating a magnificent fireworks display. The courtyard was once again swept by a violent gale.
"Was that a Mirror Demon?" Boros's tone was grim and hoarse, accompanied by a bone-chilling growl from his throat. The demonic patterns on his face flickered. "Scram."
What on earth was this guy here for? Was he intentionally provoking him to fight?
The look in Lan Jiaying's eyes made Bellerophon so furious that he wanted to beat him to a pulp.
It was as if he regarded him as utterly useless, a waste of something, and not even worthy of comparison.
Though Bellerophon was hot-tempered, he wasn't stupid. He quickly grasped the situation. Lan Jiaying's interest in him and Wen Ying must be to make Wen Ying favor humans less due to his demonic lover.
"Overlord?" Bellerophon's tone sounded calm on the surface, but it was laced with aggression.
Knowing Lan Jiaying's personality from childhood, there was no way he would take the initiative to pay attention to such matters.
