Chapter 136: Time
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 136: Time
A dozen exorcists held up their tablets to have everyone sign electronic confidentiality agreements and register their names. Those who had just rushed out were also called back by the church personnel outside.
Zeng Mingyuan, the guest of honor, looked at the unusually "boisterous" banquet hall and sighed with excitement, "Truly thrilling." Then, he signed his name on the tablet.
In his forties, Zeng Mingyuan appeared to be in his thirties. He was unmarried, and his entire demeanor still radiated youth and vitality.
When it was Wen Ying's turn, Yang Shiming was about to sign with the e-pen when he suddenly remembered something and asked, "I signed one a few days ago. Do I need to sign again today?"
"Days ago?"
Upon hearing Yang Shiming's words, the surrounding people turned to look at him.
"Is the frequency of demon appearances too high?" someone asked nervously.
The young exorcist was taken aback and replied, "Usually not. If you've signed before, there's no need to sign again."
He then brought the tablet over to Wen Ying, who was occupying Yang Rixi's body. Wen Ying said, "I signed one a few days ago as well."
Crowd: "......."
Young Exorcist: "......." Were there really that many demonic incidents in Mu City recently? Seeing the growing fear on the faces of those around him, he quickly reassured them, "There have been very few incidents in Mu City lately. This is just an isolated case. Please don't worry. If anything happens, just call the police. We've already communicated with the Mu City police, and they won't treat your reports as jokes."
The police had high credibility in Huaxia, so everyone was somewhat reassured.
"You all don't need to be too nervous. Ordinary people might be stimulated by such demons and awaken their perception of magic. Once awakened, they can start learning magic."
Crowd: "!"
A middle-aged man with a potbelly approached eagerly and asked, "Is it possible for someone like me, in my fifties, to learn magic? How do I know if I've awakened?"
Others also looked hopeful, urging the young exorcist to hurry up and share more information.
Yang Shiming stood leisurely, all too familiar with these expressions. He had felt the same way when he first heard about using magic. However... even now, he could only conjure a tiny flame like a lighter.
Wen Ying subtly kicked Yang Shiming, who was about to rebuke him but then suddenly remembered that this wasn't the original Yang Rixi. He awkwardly changed his words, "Why did you kick me?"
"Control your expression," Wen Ying whispered, "if you don't want to get arrested for illegal cultivation."
Yang Shiming instantly wore an expression of longing, just like the others around him.
Wen Ying thought to himself, fools are easy to deceive. Someone as sharp as Huo Jue would have realized that if they, the contractors, were captured, it would be even more troublesome for the demons.
The young exorcist said, "Ordinary people who wish to learn magic must possess a natural talent. Without innate talent, no amount of demonic stimulation will suffice. In this world with its current low concentration of magic aura, very few can awaken."
In truth, most humans possessed the talent to learn magic, but just like spiritual roots, the lower the level, the less useful it was. Those with high-level talents could awaken easily with slight stimulation, whereas those with low-level talents required an environment with an extremely high concentration of magic aura. The present human realm did not meet such conditions.
Since there was no definitive conclusion, everyone believed they might be the lucky ones. Thus, the young exorcist's words did not discourage them; they still held hope for the future.
After much commotion, the exorcists finally dismissed the crowd. However, many lingered, covertly or openly seeking information from the exorcists about demons and their work.
Wen Ying spotted Wen Qinxue among the crowd, actively engaging in conversation with the exorcists. He inwardly sighed in relief, glad that his father, Lin Tianbao, had not come. Otherwise, with his timid nature, he might have been frightened into fainting right there in front of everyone, only to become the subject of ridicule later on.
Huo Jue asked, "Shall we leave?"
"Let's go," came the reply.
Yang Shiming said, "I'll inform my parents." As he approached, he noticed that Yang Zhenxing and Cai Yiyi had quickly glanced at him, ensuring that their son was unharmed before diving back into the crowd to continue questioning the exorcists alongside others.
Yang Shiming: "..." At least take a glance.
While Wen Ying passed by, he memorized the faces of the exorcists present. After Yang Shiming returned, they left the scene.
Huo Jue accompanied them back to the Yang residence. When Wen Ying emerged from Yang Rixi's body, he hadn't even opened his eyes in the puppet when Yang Rixi immediately spoke, "Mr. Devil, could you trouble yourself to make Yang Tianen disappear from my life?"
He was somewhat relieved that the devil's disturbance had occurred. Everyone's attention was drawn to the danger, and no one continued to focus on his forced outing.
Scratching the back of his head, Yang Shiming asked, "So there's a second wish allowed?" In the corner of his eye, he glanced at the black-haired devil. He felt a twinge of envy; the devil Yang Rixi contracted was gentle, while the one he contracted seemed to be like 'get lost unless you want to get killed'.
Huo Jue's smile was rather amiable too.
"Only one wish is allowed," Wen Ying replied. "The rest depends on our mood."
Wen Ying looked at Yang Rixi. "One of your previous wishes to me was for Yang Tianen to treat you better, wasn't it?"
The corners of Yang Rixi's mouth drooped. "I think it's best if he stays farther away from my life." Not only was Yang Tianen incapable of doing anything right, but he also viewed Yue Xiaoxi as an innocent goddess. Yang Rixi sensed something fishy about the whole situation, and Yang Tianen was undoubtedly being taken advantage of.
"Alright then."
Yang Shiming was curious. "Mr. Demon, what would you do?"
Wen Ying revealed a gentle smile. "Fight until he doesn't dare to come over."
Yang Shiming: "...Yang Rixi, cough cough, brother, did your wish also include me?"
Yang Rixi nodded guiltily.
Yang Shiming cursed inwardly.
Muershi flew in front of everyone and said with a smile, "You've all worked hard today. We need to discuss the banquet hall issue. If you have any questions about it, compile them and ask us later."
This was an indirect way of asking them to leave... No, this was his home. Yang Rixi's lips twitched. The three of them went to Yang Shiming's room, leaving the space for the demons.
Boros flew to the desk and sat on a hardcover book as if it were a chair. He looked at Wen Ying and said, "We previously discussed using Wang Run to find more connections between the Extremists, exorcists, and demons. Now, I think we should eliminate Wang Run first and look for clues from Xiao Long."
Wen Ying replied, "No objections. How about you?"
One of Muershi's wings folded inward as he preened himself. While doing so, he pondered, "I agree. Perhaps we can even extract from Wang Run's mouth the secret of how the Corrupt Demons entered the Demon Realm. Once we clarify these matters and take a few more lives, our first place will be secure."
All three demons concurred on acting ahead of schedule. Wen Ying crossed his legs and closed his eyes, rousing his true body that was far away in the Demon Realm.
In the room filled with books on demonic potions, the silver-white demon slowly opened his eyes.
He sat up, not quite skillfully raising his hand for a grasp. Indeed, his true body felt more comfortable.
Wen Ying's true body shut its eyes, establishing contact with Lu Qingyuan through their mutual contract.
Soon, the other party responded to his call.
"Mr. Demon, is there something you need from me?" It had been a while since Lu Qingyuan had been contacted by Wen Ying, so he had almost forgotten about the contract he'd signed with the demon.
"I need you to go to Mu City and summon me there."
Lu Qingyuan was taken aback. Was this so sudden?
"May I ask what you plan to do this time?"
"There's nothing specific. Just dealing with some traitorous individuals."
Mu City... Wang Run mentioned that quite a few exorcists have been heading there recently. Lu Qingyuan was slightly worried. "You won't hurt ordinary exorcists, right?" Several seniors he knew had also gone to Mu City.
"No, I only deal with traitors. Hurry to Mu City, preferably within tomorrow," the demon replied.
A traitor among demons? Lu Qingyuan hesitated for a moment but still agreed with the demon. Mainly because the demon's tone was too resolute, making Lu Qingyuan sense the other party's determination to have him summon them.
His cousin, Lu Qingtao, was still in their hands.
After instructing Lu Qingyuan to head to Mu City as soon as possible, Wen Ying didn't let his main body continue sleeping. The puppet couldn't sense the contact message from its contractee.
After sleeping for so many days, the main body went downstairs in search of food.
In the meantime, Wen Ying opened his eyes in the puppet's body and said to the two demons looking at him, "It's settled. When my contractor arrives, they should tell me voluntarily."
"Bellerophon mentioned that Wang Run seems to be operating alone today," said one of the demons. "All we need to do is lure him to a less crowded place."
Upon hearing this, Wen Ying looked at Muershi. "Is Diao Mei with you?"
Muershi nodded and flew out, returning with Huo Jue in tow. Huo Jue placed a glass bottle down before leaving the room.
Muershi uncorked the vessel, releasing the Diao Mei.
The moment Diao Mei emerged, it barely paused, flying straight towards Wen Ying with its arms outstretched, clearly targeting him. It was then kicked away by Beros.
Upon realizing there was another formidable figure present, and one with an apparently terrible temper judging from his appearance, Diao Mei didn't show any anger after being kicked. Instead, it slowly flew back, observing carefully as it said cautiously, "I'm sorry for approaching you without permission. This won't happen again in the future."
Beros didn't even give it a cold snort, remaining silent and staring coldly, making Diao Mei feel like it might be destroyed at any moment.
Muershi chuckled softly. "It's not that you can't get close to him, it's that you can't get close to him." As he spoke, he pointed at Beros and Wen Ying with separate fingers.
Wen Ying said with a hint of amusement, "Let me introduce you. This is my boyfriend for the month."
"Stop wasting time with trivialities," Beros said with his arms crossed. "Why did you summon this lowly demon?"
Wen Ying shrugged. "Alright then, Diao Mei, do you know when that servant knight, Wang Run, who's with Xiao Long, goes to fetch vitality from a demon?"
Diao Mei had been born from Xiao Long's desires and had a chance of knowing.
After some thought, it replied, "It seems to be on the 13th of every month. But I've been away from Xiao Long for years, so I'm not sure if Wang Run's schedule has changed."
Muershi remarked, "How coincidental, it's the tenth today."
Wen Ying stroked his chin. "Even the heavens are on our side. Let's ambush them at that location on the twelfth."
Boros narrowed his eyes slightly. He felt excluded from the conversation between the two demons, and this sensation left him in a foul mood.
"What place are you referring to?"
Noticing Boros' tightly pursed lips, Wen Ying realized that the clone puppet couldn't express much emotion, but Boros' displeasure was clearly evident.
