Chapter 297 – Arrival
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 297 - Arrival
The Devil King looked at the Demoness Clan Chief and said, "You're in charge of dealing with the humans who are influential to Wen Ying."
By 'dealing with', it naturally didn't mean physically eliminating them, but rather, having the Demoness Clan manipulate their minds so that they would no longer be a hindrance to Wen Ying. This was something the Demonesses were adept at.
"Understood."
The Devil King originally believed that with Beros around, Wen Ying would never fully side with the humans. However, now that Beros had failed, he couldn't afford to let Wen Ying's heart and stance lean completely towards the humans during these crucial years, especially since Wen Ying knew about his plan to invade the Human Realm mentally.
The Extremists could not be protected anymore.
Beros, that useless fellow! The Devil King cursed inwardly.
After the meeting, the Devil King summoned Lan Jiaying.
Lan Jiaying's eyes sparkled as she walked in with an upright posture, her entrance accompanied by a gentle breeze. Her long golden hair, smooth and flowing, swayed behind her as she moved, adding an ethereal grace to her steps.
"Father," Lan Jiaying approached the Devil King, her tone filled with admiration, "You called for me?"
The Demon King nodded and, gazing at Lan Jiaying, said slowly, "I have an important task for you."
"Your command," the golden-haired demon replied, his spirits high and confidence soaring.
Looking at his demeanor, the Demon King spoke with a subtle hint of guilt that was hard to detect, "Prevent humans from disrupting Berlos and Wen Ying's romantic relationship."
Lan Jiaying, entrusted with this significant mission, was taken aback. "? ? ?" The confident glow on his face faded into confusion, as if he had misheard. He looked at the Demon King with a quizzical expression.
The Demon King avoided Lan Jiaying's gaze and spoke solemnly, "This matter is crucial."
Lan Jiaying's expression turned odd. "Berlos is an outstanding figure in our Realm of Demons. In terms of both power and appearance, humans can't compare. Why are you concerned about this?"
Though they were rivals, Berlos was indeed exceptional.
The Demon King's expression and tone were also somewhat peculiar. "You didn't know?"
The handsome young demon appeared perplexed.
The Demon King recounted what the Succubus Clan Chief had said during the meeting to Lan Jiaying.
Lan Jiaying's eyes widened in disbelief, filled with astonishment. He almost blurted out an expletive but instead examined the situation in confusion.
"Useless Beros!" Lan Jiaying echoed the sentiment that the Demon King had held in his heart.
The Demon King agreed wholeheartedly but only said, "I've only entrusted this matter to you."
This time, Lan Jiaying nodded seriously. "I won't disappoint you." Feeling a strange sense of awkwardness in his solemnity, Lan Jiaying took the rare initiative to stride away from the Demon King.
In the Human Realm, Wen Ying didn't receive a call from the Demon King as expected, and his minions sent to eliminate the Extremists hadn't encountered any obstacles. He deduced that the Demon Realm must have no objections to their actions.
Instead, the headquarters of the Church of the Great Angel sent him an invitation, issued in the name of the First Generation Angel, Wu Mixiu, inviting him to visit.
Placing the envelope on the table, Wen Ying asked the three demons around him, "What do you think?"
Muershi picked up the envelope and said with a hint of amusement, "A trap?"
Beros chimed in, "Is that vessel still usable?" He probably lost both arms, right?
"Why wouldn't it be?" Wen Ying replied. "Their headquarters is still home to many powerful exorcists. With some coordination, they could be a valuable asset."
Koroy asked, "So you're going?"
Wen Ying replied confidently, "Yes, of course. Why wouldn't I? You two can help me deal with the Church's exorcists."
Muershi studied Wen Ying, his eyes thoughtful as he smiled and said, "You seem eager. Do you have a secret you can't share with me?"
"I suppose it's not quite appropriate," Wen Ying said, causing Muershi to pause in surprise.
The reason he couldn't tell them was that he didn't fully trust Muershi and Koroy. His intention for accepting the invitation was to devour Wu Mixiu's Law Fragment, thereby giving himself more leverage in front of the Devil King.
Strength was something that one could never have too much of.
Wen Ying lowered his eyelids slightly, hiding the intense calculation and greed in his eyes.
Something truly significant was happening quietly behind the scenes. While the Church's collusion with the extremist party and their atrocities against humanity were making headlines, no one noticed that an invitation had been sent to Wen Ying, nor did anyone pay attention to the fact that the second-generation angel was leading demons and subordinates to the Church's headquarters in Asaph.
It wasn't that no one had noticed; the young men who had received orders from above to become Wen Ying's boyfriend by any means necessary found their target missing. They assumed that Persephone must have sensed something and deliberately concealed his whereabouts.
They knew that what they were doing was underhanded, but when two worlds were involved, morality seemed less important.
To be honest, they didn't hold much hope for successfully making Wen Ying break up with Beros. With the angel's looks, physique, and power, they lacked confidence.
Human appearance was inherently inferior to that of demons.
But despite their lack of confidence, they had to give it a shot. Perhaps they might succeed if they tried? Angels originated from the human world, so their partners should logically also be human.
It was truly an arduous task.
Someone mused about the daunting journey ahead while feeling speechless about this absurd mission they had been assigned.
This was the most preposterous task they had ever received.
Aside from this group, another individual who noticed Wen Ying's disappearance was the demon Lan Jiaying. He was carrying out a task assigned by the Demon King but failed to locate Wen Ying. Initially, he had been nonchalant, but his attitude changed when he continued to come up empty-handed.
Something was amiss.
At this moment, Wen Ying and his group of demons had already entered the territory of Asaph.
He hadn't informed the Archangel Church, and they proceeded directly to the small town of Chupse, where the vessel was located.
The Church's representatives swiftly informed the Pope of Wen Ying's presence in Chupse. The few elders, aware that Wen Ying had already guessed their intentions, decided to head straight for the city.
"One would think he'd avoid coming if he knew," fretted a well-dressed elder.
"Unlikely. Lord Wu Mixiu is one of the oldest angels, and he's only a second-generation with demonic blood. The Law must favor Lord Wu Mixiu more."
"What about the vessel..." Someone hesitated to speak further.
"As long as the Law favors Lord Wu Mixiu, there will be no issue with the outcome of this battle! That guy with demonic blood isn't fit to be an angel!"
The Law would surely support a pure-blooded first-generation angel.
Wen Ying had never left his country before. Despite his family's wealth, his weak constitution couldn't withstand the rigors of travel. This was his first time abroad, and he was taking in all the foreign sights with great curiosity.
Muershi observed Wen Ying's inquisitive gaze and asked, puzzled, "Didn't you grow up in the Human Realm? Why are you more curious than us?"
Wen Ying replied, "Before I became a demon, my health was terrible. Back then, just staying healthy was a good thing."
"Was it really that bad?" Muershi was surprised.
Wen Ying turned his head to look at Belos and said, "So be nice to me."
Belos replied, "Mm."
Muershi: "…" He couldn't help but feel like he was being fed dog food for no reason.
Koroy chuckled secretly. As he watched Wen Ying walking in Chupse, a question arose in his mind. The Wen Ying he saw in the crystal ball was much different from the one now. The scene he witnessed shouldn't have been too far in the future, no more than fifty years.
Fifty years was a short period for power growth. How did Wen Ying become so… Koroy's heart palpitated again.
After some time had passed, he still feared that figure on the throne.
One glance was akin to a storm descending, shaking one's soul.
Perhaps the Demon King's plan was about to fail.
Koroy didn't report what he saw in the crystal ball to the Demon King because he saw Belos by the throne. Since Belos was still standing there, it meant that even if the Demon King's plan failed and Wen Ying grew stronger, it wouldn't pose a significant threat to the entire demon race's survival.
It was just an angel becoming the Demon King, and the invasion of the Human Realm failing.
Koroy weighed the pros and cons, then decisively threw his lot in with Wen Ying. For a demon, it was only natural to follow a powerful one.
Though Koroy appeared nonchalant, he didn't wish to present himself as a female to the world for his entire life. He longed to stand before the demons as his true self, in his male form.
If he were to seek refuge with Wen Ying, by the time that scene from the divination comes to pass, even if his male identity is exposed, no clan demon would dare to depose him from the position of clan leader.
Koroy, in a delightful mood, leisurely followed beside Wen Ying while sitting sideways on his hovering magic wand.
A girl of diminutive stature (by demonic standards), perched sideways upon her wand with legs demurely crossed, possesses ears that taper to delicate points, half-concealed beneath a cascade of raven locks—imbuing them with an alluring mystique that aligns seamlessly with the enigmatic allure one might associate with a sorceress. Her very essence embodies the grace and effortless poise characteristic of a witch, as if such qualities were ingrained in her marrow.
Wen Ying cast a sideways glance, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly. If they were to ask anyone on the street whether Koroy was male or female, not a single person would believe he was a man.
The world was full of wonders, and magical potions were no exception.
Walking alongside Koroy, Muershi chuckled softly. "You seem to be in a good mood."
Koroy's eyes curved, even his queenly aura softening a bit. "Mm."
With such commotion, it was about time the Church's people arrived.
A line of vehicles approached from afar, and several figures alighted first, opening the rear doors for those inside. One by one, elegantly dressed, distinguished elders emerged from the backseats of the cars.
The two groups observed each other from a distance for a moment. Shielded by a few powerful exorcists, the elders began to walk slowly towards them.
Without turning his head, Wen Ying gazed ahead and asked, "With this number of people, can you handle it?"
Demons had their powers suppressed in the human realm, but humans did not. Muershi sounded troubled. "It's a bit troublesome."
At the same time, Boros declared confidently, "No problem at all."
Muershi shot a subtle glance at Boros.
Most humans were pushovers, but some at the top of the pyramid were more resilient. For underage demons whose powers were restricted by the laws of this realm, dealing with these individuals, along with the possibility of them having set up an unknown magical array beforehand, would be somewhat troublesome.
Calmly, Koroy said, "It's troublesome, but manageable."
After all, there were three high-ranking demons standing here, two of whom belonged to one of the Three Great Families.
As they spoke, they arrived.
The Pope was an old man with wrinkled skin. His eyes had a sinister glint, though his expression resembled that of a kind and gentle elder. However, his gaze resembled that of a villain in period dramas, filled with malice.
The pristine papal robe draped over the old man seemed like a wolf in sheep's clothing.
The other elders were also clad in the Church's white-gold robes. Some had amiable faces, while others wore stern expressions.
The experts behind them exuded faint demonic auras, their imposing presence silently looming.
The three Upper Demons countered the pressure without altering their expressions, causing a couple to feel stifled and cough.
"The company you keep is inappropriate," the Pope declared authoritatively.
Wen Ying chuckled. "Some people are more devilish than devils themselves. Let's cut to the chase, has Wu Mixiu come down yet?"
The faces of the Church's representatives turned solemn.
One elder frowned and asked, "How do you know the name of that Angel?"
"The angel who passed me the fragment of the Law mentioned it," Wen Ying said. "Wu Mixiu was unaware of his schemes in the Human Realm, but the angel who didn't return knew everything."
"How could they not have returned?!"
Wen Ying's brows lifted slightly. "Guess for yourselves. It's not my duty to tell you." If it were known that there was an angel's corpse in the underground palace, countless people would attempt to break in, disrupting the angel's remains.
The faces of the elders darkened, and the exorcists behind them grew tense, creating a volatile atmosphere.
Suddenly, the sound of something cracking echoed in the surroundings, gradually growing louder— "Snap," "Snap," "Snap"...
"A sky tear!" A demon cried out in alarm, drawing the attention of everyone present.
In the distance, it appeared as though the sky had split open, revealing a stark white fissure against the gloomy backdrop. Fierce winds howled, lightning flashed, and thunder rumbled. Something seemed to be forcing its way through the crack, causing it to shatter repeatedly.
Wen Ying sensed a fragment of the Law filled with vitality and power within the tear. His eyes gleamed as he fixated on the fissure, licking his lips softly. Something stirred within his shadow, imbuing the demon with an alarming sense of danger that heightened the vigilance of those around him. An unassuming aggression radiated from him.
Beros and the others glanced at Wen Ying.
"Great Angel!"
Excited voices echoed, coming from both young adults and the elderly.
"Lord Angel!"
"Lord Wu Mixiu!"
"It's an angel!"
Boros caught a glimpse of tears welling up in some of the churchgoers' eyes, leaving him speechless.
Boros then turned to look at Wen Ying behind him, whose four wings had unfolded majestically. His broad, luminescent wings, radiating a gentle glow, contrasted with the bat-like wings beside them. Fueled by his intense battle intent, the feathers seemed to be infused with the same spirit, flickering like flames.
Wen Ying's hair now reached his waist, its silver tresses flowing like silk. His lifted profile was flawlessly beautiful, with skin as smooth and translucent as jade.
He appeared even more angelic than when he was a demon, for now, he truly was an angel.
Pristine white and yet perilously dangerous.
In Boros's eyes, the figure clad in silver stood out against the collapsing sky, unfazed by the turmoil around him.
