Chapter 324 – The Conclusion
by 夜阑妖歌Chapter 324 - The Conclusion
Three years later—
Wen Ying graduated from the Lucifer Demon Academy.
During these three years, many Mid-Rank Demons were permitted to visit the Human Realm through the Law, but only Lan Jiaying was allowed among the Upper-Rank Demons. Even Bellos was not granted permission to enter the Human Realm. The Devil King continuously increased the quota for human exchange students, and all races worked diligently to improve their relations with humans. However, they had yet to witness the appearance of the second Upper-Rank Demon slot they had been anticipating.
A year prior, the Devil King had questioned Wen Ying, and the outcome left him avoiding Wen Ying for almost a month.
The Law required Wen Ying to become the Devil King before a second Upper-Rank Demon slot could be added. This information soon reached the ears of the other Upper-Rank Demon clan leaders through various channels.
Since it was just a formality without actual power transfer, they would inevitably support Wen Ying's ascension to the throne sooner or later. The timing… made a significant difference to different demon races.
For the Devil King, delaying had its benefits. The longer Lan Jiaying stayed in the Human Realm, the more substantial their covert influence there would become. For the other demon clans, however, having only Lan Jiaying as an active Upper-Rank Demon in the Human Realm for an extended period disadvantaged them in their struggle for resources.
Wen Ying was content to watch them fight amongst themselves and secretly fueled the flames.
He "subtly" spread the news that the second Upper-Rank Demon slot would not be given to Bellos.
Initially, everyone assumed Wen Ying would prioritize giving the quota to Beros. Now that there's a chance for the second slot to fall into their own hands, they are all working even harder, openly and covertly, to exert pressure on the Devil King.
During these three years, Wen Ying has developed a significant network on both sides of the worlds, quietly nurturing his own faction. In the Human Realm, the Church is his public front, but secretly, he has recruited many demons born in the Human Realm, providing them with resources for cultivation to aid their transformation. Many native demons are more than willing to work for him.
In the Devil Realm, he has enlisted "bodyguards" through the Business Empire of the Mirror Devil Clan. After accumulating substantial capital from selling magic cards, the elders started investing, purchasing farms to process magical beast meat into various products for export to the Human Realm. They also invested in plantations, cultivating fruits and ingredients for magical potions. The Human Realm remains an enormous, untapped market, so there's no need to worry about sales in the short term – whatever they produce can be consumed by the Human Realm.
Additionally, some devils within the clan have their own small businesses. Now, the wealth in Wen Ying's possession has reached an astonishing amount, allowing him to offer enticing rewards to attract powerful devils.
Now, the Mirror Demon guards had transformed into a sort of large-scale mercenary group, publicly safeguarding the Mirror Demons during their trading expeditions across realms while secretly assisting Wen Ying in other matters.
He started from a small town, gradually expanding his influence and embedding his roots deep into the Realm of Devils.
Due to the distribution of resources in the Human Realm, upper-level demon clans had conflicting interests among themselves. Taking advantage of the pressure they exerted on the Devil King, Wen Ying stealthily approached several demon tribes, secretly enticing and dealing with them. His method was similar to how he convinced Lan Jiaying and the others to model for him before - the core principle remained unchanged.
Demons, as a race, were innately confident and proud of their power, never believing that humans could pose a threat to the Realm of Devils. While they vied for human resources, they never considered the possibility of the Realm of Devils being endangered by humans. Thus, when dealing with Wen Ying, they were more concerned about their reputation and gains rather than the security of their realm.
Indeed, at least with their current assessment of strength, it was impossible for humans to threaten the Realm of Devils.
Even thousands of years ago, humans had only managed to drive demons out of the human world – their innate warrior nature was no empty boast.
Thanks to the efforts of the major upper demon clans and Wen Ying, the Devil King finally set a clear abdication date –
upon Wen Ying's graduation from the Lucifer Demon Academy.
Now, Wen Ying had graduated.
The Devil King issued an announcement, and the entire demonic realm knew that he would abdicate the next day, with Wen Ying becoming the new Devil King.
Every demon in the realm was discussing this matter.
Their current Devil King truly defied convention – an angel-demon hybrid, and not even from the Black Dragon Clan. Moreover, he hadn't forcefully seized power from the current Black Dragon Clan Devil King; instead, the latter had civilly passed the throne to Wen Ying, a member of the Devil Mirror Clan.
In ordinary inter-clan struggles for the Devil King's throne, countless battles, big and small, might have erupted in secret. But now, the transition of power was as civilized as a change of leadership in the human world.
"I wonder what the Devil King is thinking, letting an angel become the Devil King. It's so uncomfortable for us demons. I thought the Devil King's announcement was just to fool humans, but it seems like he's actually serious."
"Haven't you heard the gossip? As soon as that hybrid officially becomes the Devil King, the Law will allow more upper demons to enter the human world!"
"So many high-ranking demons going to the Human Realm wouldn't be able to act either. What difference does it make where they go?"
A demon looked down on the indignant one with disdain. "You're so naive. Those upper-level devils are busy fighting over the resources in the Human Realm right now. Have you heard of that Cultural Street in Mirror Lake City? Although they can't forcefully extract human life force, as long as the humans consent..."
"Like you're so clever! If you're so clever, why are you still dealing with this sort of thing like me?"
In the Human Realm, upon hearing the news of Wen Ying becoming a Devil King, the entire world rejoiced, celebrating as if it were a festival.
Upon learning about this, Wen Dingjue decided to witness the event firsthand. He accompanied Wen Ying back to the Demon Realm through the portal and stayed at Aruda Castle.
The next morning, Wen Ying woke up early at Aruda's castle. Wen Dingjue was so excited that he couldn't sleep all night. As Wen Ying descended the stairs, his gaze met with Wen Dingjue, whose eyes shone brightly despite obvious dark circles beneath them.
Wen Dingjue was already dressed in an expensive and magnificent formal suit, which made Wen Ying momentarily see a peacock spreading its feathers.
"Great-grandfather, are you too excited?" Wen Ying asked.
Wen Dingjue's voice brimmed with enthusiasm. "I'm super excited! A Devil King! I never thought I'd actually become one! It's so incredible!"
Wen Ying replied, "You didn't even consider it..." At that time, Wen Dingjue's tone when urging him to become a Devil King to revive the Mirror Devil Clan was filled with a sense of devoted belief.
Wen Dingjue's tone was animated and hasty. "Of course, back then I just hoped that you would make a name for yourself in the Demon Realm."
Wen Ying's eyelids twitched.
Aluda was more reliable. She stood nearby, holding a few garments hanging on hangers. They were pressed flawlessly and made of exquisite materials.
"This is the robe sent from the Devil King's castle. As for the crown, the Devil King said he'll give it to you at the castle later."
Wen Ying muttered quickly, "He could have just given it to me now."
Despite himself, Wen Ying felt a thrill of excitement as he looked at the heavy black Devil King's robe, his heartbeat quickening slightly.
There weren't any particular dress codes or taboos in the Demon Realm; this robe just looked incredibly expensive and gorgeous. Only the crown truly represented the Devil King.
Becoming... the Devil King, Wen Ying's long-dead teenage fantasies flickered briefly back to life.
"Why do you look so strange?"
Perseus' voice suddenly rang out, and Wen Ying froze, surprised. "When did you get here?"
"Boreos," he began, "you had a peculiar expression the moment you arrived." Was it somewhat eerie?
"You're mistaken," Wen Ying said, carrying the clothes to change.
Dressed in multiple formal attire, the already strikingly handsome Magic Mirror Demon became even more captivating. The luxurious robes suppressed his innocent and harmless appearance, imbuing him with an air of authority and dignity.
This time it was Boros who paused in surprise. When Wen Ying donned such attire, her demeanor underwent a significant transformation. It would not be accurate to say she had changed; rather, the garment peeled away her superficial veneer, revealing the innate presence that lay beneath.
"Wen Ying spread his arms toward Beros, asking, 'How about it?'"
"It's very captivating."
Wen Dingjue harrumphed softly, feeling as if his family's precious cabbage had been stolen by someone else.
He had planned to leverage Wen Ying's great-grandfather's connection to gain some leverage in front of Belos. However, just a casual glance from Belos, accompanied by an unintentional air of hostility and dominance, made him tremble physically.
This damned sense of racial suppression was infuriating.
The four demons set off for the Devil King's Castle together.
Near the Demon King's Castle resided numerous demons. For such a grand occasion, everyone had gathered to witness it.
The noise level at the scene was deafening, even louder than a bustling marketplace. Suddenly, the demons fell silent as a chilling sensation crept up their spines, causing their souls to tremble. They instinctively showed respect.
Four demons landed on the square in front of the Demon King's Castle, and an eerie silence enveloped the area.
The silver-haired demon, though not tall, instilled a primal fear in the others. His hybrid expression wasn't cold; there was a faint curve at the corners of his lips. Stepping steadily towards the castle, he was met with the gaze of a towering demon overlooking from above. It was the handsome young Demon King with an unfriendly look in his deep, black eyes that resembled a perilous abyss. His robe billowed in the wind.
The Demon King swiftly descended from the castle and flew inside.
Within the castle, the more prominent clan leaders of various demon tribes had arrived, accompanied by some high-ranking members of their clans.
The ceremony of the Demon King's succession took place in the vast open-air courtyard of the castle.
Usually, such rituals were conducted within the same clan. Outsider Demon Kings typically seized the crown themselves.
The young demons who had witnessed Wen Ying's initial appearance felt a mixture of emotions.
Lan Jiaying struggled to maintain his composure, though his gaze betrayed him with a resentful stare at Wen Ying. In the initial stages of the battle for the throne, he had only considered Bellos as a rival. Little did he expect that his original competitor would stand beside the unexpected dark horse, looking rather clueless (through Lan Jiaying's biased lens).
The Demon King removed his crown and offered it to Wen Ying with a forced smile, "From this moment on, I entrust you with the important title of Demon King, hoping you will make the Demon Realm even more powerful."
It was merely an ostensible title; the true authority of the Demon King would not be easily handed over. It was just a matter of ten years before the throne returned to the Black Dragon Clan.
Unaware of the subtle expressions on some of the clan leaders around him, Wen Ying moved from Aruda's castle to the Demon King's castle. Bellos also had a separate room there, and their relationship was no secret. Some demons whispered that Bellos was akin to a queen, but those who were overheard by Bellos usually found themselves bedridden for at least a week.
No demon dared to speak like that anymore, at least not openly.
What queen? He was clearly still the fierce three-headed hellhound with a volatile temper.
Wen Ying knew the Demon King would not easily relinquish power. The king justified it by claiming Wen Ying lacked experience and might plunge the Demon Realm into chaos if given everything at once. Thus, the transfer of power needed to be gradual.
Assessing the disparity in their powers, Wen Ying turned to the Law and complained. To his surprise, the Law granted him numerous fragments of the Law, exceeding his expectation of pressuring the Demon King. Now, he possessed the strength to confront the king head-on.
Once again, Bellos felt "neglected." When Wen Ying announced his intention to enter seclusion, the dejected demon sought out Lan Jiaying for numerous sparring sessions.
The two of them had always found each other irritating, and it wouldn't have been difficult for them to start fighting. Among demons, battles were nothing out of the ordinary.
Wen Ying secluded himself for an entire year.
A full year! Many in the human world almost suspected that Wen Ying had been ambushed. Another high-ranking demon from the Demon Realm had even arrived, causing the situation to become subtly tense and inexplicably nervous.
There were even rumors in the Demon Realm that Beros had ambushed Wen Ying in order to become the Demon King. Muershi deliberately used this rumor to tease Beros. Not just Muershi, but Lan Jiaying and the others also took a particularly mocking attitude towards Beros, though they knew it wasn't true. It didn't stop them from ridiculing him.
Beros fiercely cleaned up the rumors, and although the demons no longer dared to speak of it openly, they spread it even more secretly.
Beros thought that if Wen Ying didn't end his seclusion soon, he would definitely coldly reject him when he wanted to stick close.
Whether Wen Ying sensed Beros' restless anger or had just finished his seclusion coincidentally, he emerged. The moment he appeared, the stock prices of many companies in the human world stabilized.
Beros' brows and eyes were filled with restless anger as he silently opened his arms to the bounding Wen Ying who rushed at him after coming out.
Wen Ying pounced on Beros, climbed onto him in a few leaps, wrapped his legs around his waist, and excitedly rubbed his face against Beros'. "Beros! I've become so much stronger! I can beat them up now!"
Beros clicked his tongue in annoyance and casually replied, "You could beat up Lan Jiaying and the others long ago."
"Not at all!" Wen Ying shook Berlos. "It's those patriarchs!"
Berlos' reaction was like a literal earthquake in his pupils. He fell silent for a few seconds, his voice involuntarily lowered. "Patriarchs?"
"I went into seclusion to assimilate the power granted by the laws," Wen Ying said excitedly, eager to rush out and engage in a fierce battle with the high-ranking demon patriarchs.
He pounced on Berlos excitedly, leaving the latter dazed from the unexpected affection.
Wen Ying... was indeed very excited. Was what he said true? Berlos was filled with doubt and surprise.
"I'm going out to challenge them right now!" Wen Ying flew out eagerly, leaving Berlos unable to stop him. Before he could reach out, Wen Ying was already out of sight.
Was he really that strong? Berlos was both shocked and incredulous.
Wen Ying went out and openly sent out invitations to spar with the patriarchs.
At the appointed time and place, the demons who had accepted the invitation were surprised to find that they were not the only ones who had come. They were filled with uncertainty.
Wen Ying challenged them all arrogantly. The demon patriarchs exchanged glances, and without hesitation or holding back, they attacked together. The former Demon King rushed forward the fastest... but also received the most hits.
The outcome of this battle stunned history, so unbelievable that many people and demons, upon hearing the news, exchanged skeptical glances and chuckled, assuming it was false. Only to be left dumbfounded when they realized it was true.
No generation of demon kings has ever been able to defeat the siege of a group of high-ranking demon leaders, but now, one has emerged.
The patriarch of the Hellhound clan, Lennach, returned home after a month of brooding about his demonic existence. For someone known for his loquaciousness, he hadn't spoken a word during that entire time.
Lennach suddenly recalled something and called out to Beros.
"Why didn't you tell me not to go a month ago?" Lennach grumbled loudly. "I've completely lost face!"
The key point was that history would forever remember the specific year and month when the leaders of various clans, such as XXX and XXX, had united to battle the hybrid Demon King, only to suffer a miraculous defeat.
Boros replied calmly, "I wouldn't have known about your defeat before it happened."
Lennach: "..." Speaking of which, why hadn't Na Yi warned him? This was such a significant event; she should have seen it in her crystal ball... Wait, didn't the Clan Leader of the Witch Fairy tribe not participate in this chaotic battle?
Recently, the leaders of the various Demon Realm clans had been unusually silent while Wen Ying seized power, solidifying his rule with absolute might, becoming a genuine Demon King in every sense of the word.
The Demon Realm fell quiet, while the Human Realm celebrated joyously, filled with music and dance.
The former Dark King had schemed to bide his time until Wen Ying's mortal life reached its end, believing that the Black Dragon Clan would then reclaim the throne of the Dark King, with his successor carrying on his grand plan.
Even if he were to pass away by then, his role as the mastermind behind the scheme would still be recorded in history, earning him a place among the greatest Dark Kings.
Yet, what he didn't anticipate was that the next Dark King would not come from the Black Dragon Clan but from the HellhoundTribe – Berlos, followed by Berlos' younger brother, born from Na Yi's union with Lennach.
The former Dark King also never imagined that the demons, who later enjoyed greater freedom in the Human Realm, would somehow trigger the awakening of Wen Ying within the cycle of reincarnation, turning him back into an angel walking amongst humans.
At present, the former Dark King remains ignorant of these developments.
