Chapter 6

A Little Irritation
Han Yan, seeing Zhang Xiaofeng like this, thought she was angry and seized the chance to badmouth, "Auntie, you don’t know this, but Lin Nannan just pushed Lu Hang earlier and nearly smothered him. Now she’s carrying him so wildly reckless—who knows if she’s hurt him or not?"
Lin Nannan lowered her gaze slightly and looked at Lu Hang. "Are you uncomfortable anywhere?"
Lu Hang shook his head. Just as he was about to ask her to put him back, his mother suddenly clapped her hands and tugged at Lu Yuan. "Quick, change your brother’s bedding!"
Lu Yuan, recalling how even three people in the family usually struggled to hold up their tall brother for long, immediately understood why her mother was so excited.
The mother and daughter completely ignored Han Yan and worked with quick efficiency to replace the bedding with clean ones.
"Nan Nan, put A Hang down. Be careful not to overexert yourself," Zhang Xiaofeng said with concern, initially worried that Lin Nannan might not be able to hold him. Seeing that the bedding had been changed without Lin Nannan uttering a word, she quickly added.
Lin Nannan gave a faint smile and placed Lu Hang back on the bed. Her gaze was somewhat peculiar, as if her thoughts were unreadable...
At the very least, Lu Hang found the way she looked at him strange. If he hadn’t hesitated to ask, Lin Nannan would have told him straight, "Even though you can’t move, you're quite well-built."
"Sister-in-law, you’re amazing!" Lu Yuan exclaimed, holding the dirty bedding in her arms. "My brother’s weight—even Dad and the others can’t carry him for long. Yet you lifted him all by yourself! Just how strong are you?"
Though Lu Hang didn’t speak, he was curious too.
He rarely stayed in the village, only occasionally hearing villagers mention that the Lin family had an adopted daughter who was mentally impaired—reckless and impulsive, doing whatever came to mind, making their lives miserable, yet no one pitied them.
After all, even someone like him, who barely returned home a few times a year, had heard about the Lin family mistreating their adopted daughter.
Lin Nannan didn’t think much of it. In her time, great strength was the most basic requirement, so lifting Lu Hang was nothing to her.
However, faced with so many curious eyes, she needed an explanation. Casually, she said, "I don’t know. I’ve been foraging in the mountains since I was a kid—probably built up my strength back then."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaofeng’s eyes welled up with tears. She grabbed Lin Nannan’s hand and said, "Now that you’re here, no one will ever bully you again."
Lin Nannan could sense Zhang Xiaofeng’s sincerity. Unable to resist, she turned to the resentful Han Yan nearby and said, "But she thinks I can’t take care of Lu Hang properly!"
The Lu family’s gazes immediately fell on Han Yan, catching her completely off guard. She didn’t even have time to hide the resentment on her face.
Struggling to control her emotions, she forced a strained smile. "Nan Nan, you’ve misunderstood. That’s not what I meant..."
"You call my husband 'Hang-ge,' but you call me 'Nan Nan.' Do you not acknowledge me?" Lin Nannan asked bluntly.
All this beating around the bush seemed like child's play to her, but she refused to be bullied—especially by this woman who clearly had malicious intentions.
Of course, Han Yan didn’t acknowledge her. It meant nothing to her whether Lu Hang was happy or not, which was why she kept trying to turn the Lu family against Lin Nannan. Yet, she hadn’t expected the Lu family to treat this "fool" so well.
"That’s not it! I was just concerned you might not be accustomed to it!" she stiffly explained.
Lin Nannan snorted. "Lu Hang and I are legally married—we're married on paper. If you won’t call me 'sister-in-law,' then drop the 'brother' title too."
She was deliberately annoying Han Yan. Even if it meant nothing to her, she wouldn’t let anyone get in her face.
Haha… Forgotten where she’s originally from.
