Chapter 418
by 夏至三候Chapter 418
The Return
As long as she got what she wanted, she had no qualms about others' lives. So, Lin Nannan felt no extra sympathy.
"Everyone's saying how Granny A-Chun toughed out such bad injuries without so much as a whimper and still went to the hospital to find you..." Hu Zhaoxia muttered, not expecting Lin Nannan to answer but simply musing aloud...
Lin Nannan tilted her head, studying Hu Zhaoxia for a long time, making her uncomfortable, before slowly asking, "Why do you assume she came to find me and not to save her own life?"
Hu Zhaoxia froze for a moment, then suddenly realized what had felt off before. She nodded quickly and said, "Right! Even though she had conflicts with you, why would she insist on getting even? After all, you only had a few heated words—that’s normal among neighbors. Maybe she sensed something was wrong and came to you for help. Since you know how to make medicine, perhaps she thought you could treat her?"
"Auntie, you nailed it. So, who was the first to accuse me of murder?" Lin Nannan asked casually.
"I’ll go ask right now!" Hu Zhaoxia, sensing a lead, replied earnestly.
Lin Nannan smiled. "Thank you, Auntie. When Lu Hang returns, we’ll treat you to a meal!"
Hu Zhaoxia chuckled. "Once this matter is resolved, that meal won’t be something you can skip!"
"Of course. One meal won’t be enough—we’ll make it two!" Lin Nannan said with a slight smirk.
Though she was stranded here, she never worried about her own fate.
Hu Zhaoxia always came and went in a hurry, but each time, amidst the thick confusion, Lin Nannan’s words would clear some of the mist, edging them closer to the truth.
Lin Nannan had thought they might finally get a lead this time and uncover the person pulling the strings. But before they could identify anyone, Lu Hang returned.
Before Lu Hang even stepped foot inside the military compound, someone who had been outside ran into him and blurted out the whole story, kindly informing him of where Lin Nannan was staying now.
"Thank you!" Lu Hang said sincerely after getting the gist of it. Without even going home, he headed straight to see Lin Nannan, carrying his belongings.
When the door opened, Lin Nannan assumed it was Hu Zhaoxia returning and said without looking up, "Why are you back so soon?"
The absence of Hu Zhaoxia’s cheerful voice made Lin Nannan realize something was off. She looked up and immediately met Lu Hang’s gaze at the doorway. For some inexplicable reason, her eyes, which hadn’t even reddened during her time here, welled up with tears the moment she saw him. They spilled over, streaming down her cheeks, making Lu Hang drop his bags and stride over in concern...
"What’s wrong? Are you hurt?" he asked anxiously.
Ignoring his road-weary look, Lin Nannan threw herself into his arms, her voice choked up as she murmured, "I missed you!"
Lu Hang’s tense heart relaxed. He patted her back gently and reassured her, "Don’t worry. I’m back now, and I’ll sort this out."
"You already know?" She looked up at him, realizing that since he knew she was here, he must have heard what happened.
"Only bits here and there. Tell me everything—what exactly is going on?" After comforting her, Lu Hang began his questioning.
His only thought now was to bring his wife home as soon as possible, so she wouldn’t have to endure this ordeal alone, looking so alone and helpless.
