Chapter 749
by 夏至三候Chapter 749
The Shift
The general situation was roughly as Chen Jin had described. Lu Hang knew it was related to what Lin Nannan had done, realizing she must have kept it hidden from everyone, even at the cost of her own life.
Lu Hang was torn between heartache, anger, and a deep sense of guilt.
If he had been by her side, he might have noticed something wrong earlier and prevented her from falling into such danger.
He also resented his own oversight—even though she adored her daughter, this time she hadn’t brought the child along. Clearly, she had foreseen something like this might happen and deliberately left the child behind. Yet, after confirming she was safe, he hadn't given it more thought. If he had, things might not have turned out this way.
“Is there still no solution?” Lu Hang finally turned his gaze to Lu Jianan, waiting for his response.
Lu Jianan looked at Lin Nannan lying on the hospital bed, unaware of how much she had frightened everyone. After hesitating for a long time, he said, “Given the current circumstances, it’s best not to take any rash actions.”
“What do you mean?” the others asked, puzzled.
“Although she appears to be in a deep sleep, according to Qiao Zhi’s report, she is currently in a state of self-protection and self-repair. I’m afraid that using acupuncture might disrupt this balance. If that happens, she may not wake up, and it could even worsen her condition… At that point, no one would be able to save her.” Lu Jianan expressed his concerns and acknowledged Qiao Zhi’s assessment.
For now, this was the best course of action, but it couldn’t continue indefinitely.
Lu Hang clenched his fists and finally gritted his teeth, saying, “If there’s no solution here, we should send her to Beijing…”
Lu Jianan had the same idea, but recalling the hints Lu Hang had given him earlier, he worried, “Sending her to Beijing at this time might not be safe along the way.”
“If there’s no other option, we have to take the risk!” Lu Hang said decisively.
He actually had a private idea in mind, but it wasn’t suitable or convenient to discuss it here.
He trusted Lu Jianan, especially since Nan Nan had revealed much in front of him and he had shown concern for her well-being. Moreover, the political commissar had specifically reminded him, so he wanted to discuss a few things with Lu Jianan.
He dismissed Yin Xu and the others, leaving only Lu Jianan behind.
“Dr. Lu, you mentioned that Nan Nan is in a state of repair. Does that mean there might be a specific medicine for her condition? Is there a chance she could wake up?” he asked seriously.
Lu Jianan was somewhat puzzled by the question. “That’s the theory, but given the current situation, unless you’re absolutely certain, any intervention could be detrimental to her.”
Lu Hang thought of the life-saving medicine Lin Nannan had given him, emphasizing that it should only be taken when life was in grave danger. He had kept it carefully hidden, never using it, and now wondered if it could save her.
“Previously, a comrade of mine was severely injured. The local hospital didn’t dare operate, and he couldn’t withstand the journey to another hospital. Nan Nan saved him, and to this day, he remains well without any serious aftereffects. I have that same medicine with me. Do you think it could be given to Nan Nan?” he asked Lu Jianan earnestly.
This was something Lu Jianan hadn’t expected; he had assumed Lu Hang was referring to medicine produced by the pharmaceutical factory.
“Can you tell me the specific details of that situation?” he asked, becoming equally serious, not daring to take the matter lightly.
After all, the stakes were too high, and he couldn’t afford to make a mistake. He had to proceed with extreme caution, ensuring there was no room for error.
Lu Hang held nothing back. He recounted the incident involving Zhang Shengguo in detail, including how, after everyone had lost hope, Lin Nannan decisively administered the medicine, saving the patient’s life and ensuring his recovery to this day.
Lu Jianan's heart tightened as he listened, and he grew too restless to stay seated.
He paced back and forth in the ward, deeply conflicted.
The efficacy of such medicine was tempting, but aside from the details Lu Hang provided, the only thing he knew was Lin Nannan’s warning to use it only in life-threatening situations. Beyond that, its effects were unknown, making it a gamble.
If they succeeded, Lin Nannan would recover.
If it fails, Lin Nannan might never wake up.
No matter who you put in this situation, no one would dare to make such a decision lightly.
"Lu Jianan," Lu Hang said, understanding his dilemma, but he had faith in Nan Nan's abilities—especially since her medicine had once cured his paralysis. He was certain the medicine would work, but he didn’t want to draw more attention, so he left that part out.
As Lu Jianan turned to look at him, Lu Hang asked, "Without the medicine, how long can Nan Nan last?"
Lu Jianan paused for a moment before replying, "There's no way to know for sure, but in the long run, it definitely won’t be good!"
"So, staying in a coma indefinitely would also be torture for Nan Nan. What I mean is... rather than struggling with the decision, why not take a gamble? At least there’s a chance of recovery. Otherwise, if things continue like this, we might not even get another chance to save her," Lu Hang reasoned.
"You make a valid point..." Lu Jianan understood what he meant.
With Lin Nannan unconscious and no other solutions in sight, Lu Hang’s approach was a gamble—a 'do-or-die' approach that might bring her back from the brink. It was, for now, the only option.
If it succeeded, everyone would rejoice.
If it failed... the worst-case scenario would be her falling into a deeper coma, which would be pretty much the same as the current situation.
After considering this, Lu Jianan immediately asked, "Do you have the medicine on you?"
Lu Hang nodded, "I do, but Nan Nan can’t take it here."
"Why not?" Lu Jianan asked. "Right now, the sooner she takes it, the better it is for her recovery!"
"Everyone here knows Nan Nan’s condition. They’ve already given up hope. If we suddenly make her recover as soon as we arrive, what would people think?" Lu Hang whispered.
Lu Jianan immediately recalled Qiao Zhi’s earlier expression and realized, "You’re right. She shouldn’t recover here."
"That’s why I want to take Nan Nan back to Beijing. We can give her the medicine on the way. No matter what happens, we’ll be able to take care of her and keep things under wraps, so no one finds out about Nan Nan’s abilities and goes even crazier," Lu Hang explained, having worked it all out. He was just waiting for Lu Jianan’s support.
As expected, Lu Jianan remained calm. After hearing Lu Hang’s plan, he agreed.
"Alright, I’ll discuss this with Qiao Zhi. You arrange for the personnel. Aside from me and Ah Si, keep everyone else away from Nan Nan’s care area, no matter how many people are involved," he offered his assistance.
Lu Hang quickly replied, "I understand. I’ll talk to Yin Xu. Once everything is settled, we’ll take Nan Nan and leave tomorrow."
