    Chapter 80

    Scraping Together Medical Funds

Lu Hang noticed the towel was his, feeling slightly awkward but said nothing.

Lin Nannan, who had just come out, overheard people wanting to buy the wild boar, their words hinting she’d hogged it all. It clearly upset her.

Her eyes darted, then she leaned in and whispered, "Can we sell some of the meat?"

Caught off guard, Lu Hang felt the warm breath by his ear. Flustered, he pressed his lips together, turned his head, and replied in a rough-voiced tone, "We can’t eat that much. If you’re willing, we can sell some to them."

Knowing how she hoarded food, he didn’t push further when she didn’t nod. The Lu family didn’t agree either.

After a moment of thought, Nannan said, "Then let’s keep the two piglets and sell the big one."

Her decision surprised Lu Hang. He turned to look at the girl whispering conspiratorially beside him and asked, "Not keeping the bigger one?"

Nannan leaned closer to his ear and said disdainfully, "They say the big one doesn’t taste good..."

As Lu Hang turned slightly, his ear brushed against her chapped lips. He froze, not daring to move, but Nannan didn’t think much of it. She even rubbed against him playfully, reaching out to tug at his ear as if she had found a new toy. Her persistent teasing made Lu Hang’s ears burn red despite his attempts to stay composed.

Their hushed back-and-forth didn’t escape the Lu family’s notice, and they couldn’t help but smile. Right now, all they wished for was the young couple’s happiness—nothing else mattered more.

Under his mother’s teasing gaze, Lu Hang cleared his throat awkwardly and said, "Mom, Nannan wants to keep the piglets and sell the big boar."

Zhang Xiaofeng looked surprised. "Really? Sell the big one?"

"Yeah!" Nannan grinned without further explanation.

Zhang Xiaofeng started haggling with buyers, while Lu Yuan and Lu Ming jumped into the fray. Nannan found a stool to sit on, then draped herself over the wheelchair and murmured, "Grandma said once we save up enough money, we’ll take you for another check-up. If we add the money from selling the boar, it might be enough."

Lu Hang wanted to turn and see her expression, but she was leaning on the wheelchair, making it impossible. Steadying the hitch in his breath, he said quietly, "I’ve already been checked after the injury. There’s no hope. I don’t want to go again."

It would be the same result—he didn’t want to waste money.

But Nannan disagreed. Though the healing potion was powerful, she still needed to understand his full condition. Otherwise, she couldn’t properly adjust the treatment, especially since she had to reserve some for emergencies.

"That was when they took you. Grandma and the others weren’t there. They won’t give up so easily. Why don’t we go together this time? If it really doesn’t work out, you can just come back and let me patch you up my way!" she teased.

Once the examination was done and the Lu family saw the reality, they’d accept it. Then, even if she concocted remedies for Lu Hang to manage his pain, they wouldn’t stop her.

Though she was confident she could cure him, neither Lu Hang nor his family believed it yet. She had to wait until he gradually improved—only then would they be convinced.

Her breezy tone, as if his condition was nothing serious, left Lu Hang teetering between hope and doubt.

Watching the villagers buying meat and seeing his parents’ smiles, Lu Hang gritted his teeth but nodded. "Alright, let’s go then."
