    Chapter 120

    Ballsy as Hell

Thinking of the homey, down-to-earth life in the Lu family, Lin Nannan couldn’t help but smile.

She loved this kind of life.

Apart from Lu Yuan, none of the Lu family members openly expressed their fondness or kindness toward her, but they genuinely treated her well, always putting her first. It made her reluctant to ever leave the Lu household.

"Bawk!" Just as she was lost in thought, the sound of a chicken jolted her from her thoughts. Instinctively, she threw the branch in her hand, and the rooster that had been strutting proudly moments ago now lay lifeless on the ground, its eyes wide open in death.

Seeing the rooster, Lin Nannan thought of stewed chicken with mushrooms and her mouth watered.

With such a good haul, she couldn’t wait to head down the mountain early—that way, she could enjoy a delicious meal sooner.

Since there was medicine ready at home, she didn’t linger any longer. Figuring she'd done enough, she turned and made her way down the mountain...

At the foot of the mountain, she bumped into Lu Ming, who had come looking for her.

"Why are you here?" she asked.

"Nannan," Lu Ming panted, out of breath from running, "your husband asked me to find you."

Lin Nannan was surprised. "Did something happen?"

"I don’t know," Lu Ming gasped, "but the two men Commander Zhang sent were summoned home by your husband."

Lin Nannan, knowing exactly what those two men were assigned to do, went pale and picked up speed. "I’ll go back and check!"

"I—" Lu Ming wanted to ask her to wait, but before he could say anything, Lin Nannan had already sprinted ahead, leaving him stunned and unable to stop her.

Having just run all the way here, only to have to run back, Lu Ming felt pretty damn miserable.

But he had no choice—he had to return to catch the action.

Lin Nannan paid no attention to his plight. Her only concern was that Lu Hang’s arrangement might mean someone was targeting him, so she ran with urgency.

Villagers caught only a glimpse of a figure blazing past—before they could even open their mouths to speak, she was already gone.

"Is that the simpleton from the Lu house? What's she running so fast for?"

"Who knows what goes through the mind of a fool!"

Unaware of the villagers’ gossip, Lin Nannan arrived home a little out of breath, thinking to herself that her stamina still needed work—she’d have to train more...

After passing off her catch to Lu Yuan, she headed straight inside, only to pause briefly upon seeing the two men in the room. She nodded at them—they were already quite familiar, especially during Lu Ming’s training sessions. Their goals aligned: to whip the weakling into shape.

"What’s going on?" she asked, scanning the room.

"Someone moved in next door," Lu Hang explained succinctly. "I had A Yuan ask the village chief about it. They arrived with proper documents, sent from above—something about research. The chief couldn’t give specifics, but when A Yuan went to take a look, she was frightened by the murderous vibe from one of them. She said they were eyeing our courtyard."

As Lin Nannan pondered the situation, A Jian and A Da exchanged glances. A Jian spoke up, "We didn’t approach them directly to avoid alerting them."

"The nerve of these bastards!" Lin Nannan gritted her teeth after understanding the implications.

Talk about ballsy! To plot harm while living right next door—how reckless could they be?

"If killing too many people wouldn’t cause an uproar, they would’ve skipped moving in next door—they’d have just wiped out the entire Lu family," Lin Nannan mocked.

The idea made A Jian and A Da gasp. After a moment’s thought, they realized she was dead on.
