    Chapter 175

    The Alibi

Lu Hang hadn’t expected things to turn out this way. A little awkwardly, he said, “I just got here and was about to knock when you opened the door.”

Grandma Lu gave him a sharp look and asked irritably, “Why are you back so early?”

“I got a ride back!” He explained, then stepped into the courtyard.

“Your wife’s still asleep. Since you’re back so early, why don’t you rest for a while?” Grandmother suggested.

Lu Hang thought for a moment before replying, “Probably shouldn’t. If I wake her up, she’ll be in a bad mood.”

He knew all about Nan Nan’s morning grumpiness and didn’t want to provoke her first thing in the day.

“No backbone!” Grandmother muttered under her breath before saying, “Then sit for a bit. I’ll go make breakfast.”

“Alright.” Lu Hang settled into a chair, stretched his legs out, rested his head on his hands, and gazed at the rosy morning sky, feeling an unprecedented sense of ease…

Soon, the rest of the Lu family started waking up one after another. When they saw Lu Hang sitting in the yard, they were all astonished—especially since none of them had seen him walk since his recovery. They clamored for him to take a few steps, leaving him completely fed up.

He thought Grandma’s calm reaction was the most normal, unaware that in the kitchen, her eyes kept reddening as she cooked…

“Sister-in-law is truly amazing. Everyone said it was hopeless, but she managed to heal Big Brother completely,” Lu Yuan said in awe, seeing her brother move without any difficulty.

Thinking of his wife’s abilities, Lu Hang ruffled Lu Yuan’s hair and said, “This stays in the family. Don’t let outsiders know, or it might bring trouble for your sister-in-law. Understand?”

If word got out, who knew how much trouble it would invite? If people thought Nan Nan could heal anyone but chose not to, it would create enemies. They had to keep it quiet.

“That’s right,” Lu Fang nodded. “We must keep this quiet and not cause any trouble for Nan Nan.”

“I understand!” Lu Yuan agreed, then asked, “But what if others ask how Big Brother recovered?”

“Isn’t it simple? Big Brother was away for a while—just say someone in the military found a skilled doctor, and Big Brother was lucky enough to get treated in time. Otherwise, he’d have had no hope,” Zhang Xiaofeng jumped in smoothly, coming up with an excuse on the fly.

Everyone agreed with this explanation. Just then, Nan Nan came out doing a sleepy stretch, then met the gazes of the entire family. Only then did she notice the man at the center of the crowd. Squinting sleepily, she asked, “Am I dreaming?”

Lu Hang walked over with a smile, leaning close to her. “Want to make sure?”

Nan Nan’s hands moved faster than her words. She reached out and touched his warm face, exclaiming in surprise, “When did you get back?”

“Just now,” he replied, gently pulling her hand down to hold it while using his other hand to tap her nose. “Go get cleaned up. Granny’s made breakfast.”

At the mention of food, Nan Nan came to life, snatching her hand back excitedly. “I’ll go right now!”

Watching his hand so easily abandoned, Lu Hang shook his head with an amused smile…

In Nan Nan’s eyes, nothing mattered more than food. He’d known this for ages, but being brushed off so easily still stung a little.
