Chapter 127

Making a Move
Lu Hang had originally planned to shock everyone, but after her words, he reconsidered his uncertain condition. If he fell, it would truly be more trouble than it's worth. So he obediently said, "Alright, I won’t act on my own. Once I’m better, help me with rehab/training. I want to recover as soon as possible so I won’t be so passive, and you won’t have to shoulder everything alone."
Most women would be deeply moved by such words, especially since Lu Hang genuinely cared and didn’t want Lin Nannan to bear too much.
But to Lin Nannan, his words took it differently.
"What, you think I can’t handle them?" Lin Nannan felt underestimated.
Lu Hang massaged his temples, exasperated by what went on in his wife’s mind.
"Of course not. Our home is so peaceful now because you’re guarding it. Otherwise, they’d have stormed in and gunned us down." He wisely praised her.
"It’s not that bad!" Lin Nannan said, slightly uncomfortable.
"You bet it is. They’ve moved in right next to us. I bet Han Yan would dare say anything. Those people know everything about us—the only uncertainty is you. After what you did at the train station, they’re wary. That’s why they haven’t acted recklessly and want to deal with you first. Isn’t that indirectly protecting us?" He spelled it all out, wanting her to know he meant every word and was truly grateful.
"Sometimes I wonder where my luck comes from. Paralyzed, yet I married someone as amazing as you. If I hadn’t recovered, I’d have been too insecure, feeling like I didn’t deserve you." This was something he’d kept hidden before but now dared to say.
Lin Nannan stared at him, zoning out for a moment before replying, "What does it matter if you’re worthy or not? It’s about whether I care or not!"
She didn’t care—no matter how impressive he was.
Lu Hang leaned in close, asking seriously, "Then do you care?"
His suddenly enlarged face stunned Lin Nannan. Without thinking, she leaned in and smacked a kiss on his lips. This time, it was Lu Hang who froze.
Actions spoke louder than words—Lin Nannan’s move said it all.
Lu Hang couldn’t hold back anymore. He pulled her into his arms and kissed her fiercely...
Kiss-drunk, Lin Nannan’s mind turned to mush, with only one clear thought: Maybe paralyzed men have their perks.
Though her brain was foggy during the kiss, once she regained clarity, Lu Hang’s spell wore off. Things went back to normal, and in the end, it was Lu Hang who gave in.
"Be careful. To avoid complications, they’ll definitely act in the next few days," Lu Hang reminded her.
Lin Nannan touched her tingling lips and snorted. "They’re bold enough to live next door—isn’t that giving us the perfect opportunity? If I leave through the front gate, they’ll have to go the same way. Even if they use the back door, it’s just over the wall. Have A Jian and A Da guard both sides. Wherever they go, we’ll follow and box them in."
Lu Hang thought about it and smiled. "True. They want to watch us? We can do the same." Who knew if this tit-for-tat would end well or badly?
"They’re so annoying, like pests. Catching them would be best. Then we can hand them over to Commander Zhang and smoke out the mastermind behind this mess," Lin Nannan said irritably.
Because of these people, she couldn’t let her guard down, fearing they might actually harm the Lu family. Then she’d have no home left.
Yes, Lin Nannan, who had never known the warmth of family, now cherished the Lu family deeply. Their genuine care and protection made guarding them her top priority—even more important than the ripe fields.
"They will," Lu Hang said. Though he couldn’t move freely, he knew they were watching. So he had A Jian push his wheelchair around the yard, chatting about trivial matters while A Da secretly observed. They concluded that the man named Li Zhang was the leader and knew a lot. Capturing him would give them leads.
Lin Nannan was glad Lu Hang wasn’t sitting idle. She nodded. "Then I’ll let him live!"
If he was useful, of course he’d be kept.
"Keep him if possible. He might reveal something later. But if your safety is at stake, go all out. Your safety comes first—understand?" He’d die before letting her get hurt.
"Yeah!" Lin Nannan nodded solemnly.
...
To give them an opening, Lin Nannan stayed in the mountains longer than usual.
This convinced Yu Yuning and Li Zhang, who were tailing her, that Lin Nannan had gone up the mountain alone, making them decide to strike early.
A few days later, as soon as Lin Nannan stepped out, Li Zhang followed. A Jian didn’t think twice before following him, leaving Lu Ming to wheel Lu Hang around the courtyard...
Lu Hang, used to how things went, expected A Da to appear after A Jian left. However, when A Da didn’t show up for a long time, he realized A Da must have left too. They hadn’t realized the two were teaming up today.
Knowing they were targeting Lin Nannan, Lu Hang couldn’t sit still. Afraid others nearby might make a move too, he immediately said to Lu Ming, "Tell A Yuan we’re going to the fields."
They’d only hold back in a crowd.
Lu Ming understood and called for Lu Yuan, then wheeled Lu Hang out, leaving the Lu house deserted...
Lin Nannan knew they were following her but wasn’t sure when they’d strike. So once in the mountains, she looped them around on purpose, making them think they’d figured out her route to avoid losing her later.
Originally, that was her plan today. But when she sensed more figures entering the mountains, she realized they were about to act.
Her eyes gleamed with mischief. After leaving obvious traces, she bolted deeper into the woods...
Lu Hang didn’t want her hurt, so she’d protect herself.
Let them look. She’d hit back once they gave up.
Soon, Yu Yuning and Li Zhang entered the mountains, following the traces Lin Nannan had left. But the deeper they went, the fainter the marks became, until they disappeared entirely.
"How’d the trail just disappear?" Yu Yuning panicked, beads of sweat forming on his brow.
They were on a job. Today, they’d made excuses to slip away from their group and hadn’t brought Han Yan along. If they missed this chance, there might not be another.
Li Zhang grew alert, drawing a concealed blade. "If I’m not mistaken," he said warily, "Lin Nannan has noticed us and is hiding."
