Chapter 354
by 夏至三候Chapter 354
Persistent as a Plaster
Jian Lingzhi wanted to be alone with Lu Hang, but he wasn’t giving her the chance.
She had brought many gifts, so Lu Hang took her to meet his comrades, so she could express her gratitude.
Jian Lingzhi was pretty, and though she hated it, she didn’t dare show a hint of displeasure with Lu Hang’s arrangements.
By the time Lin Nannan arrived, she saw eager soldiers surrounding Jian Lingzhi with praise, all smiling brightly and full of gratitude, completely unaware that the woman they were thanking wished they’d all scram.
Looking at the man standing straight beside them, Lin Nannan couldn’t help but think he was sneaky—deliberately tormenting Jian Lingzhi like this.
"You’re here?" The moment Lu Hang saw Lin Nannan, his usual indifference vanished. Though he didn’t break into a grin as he did at home, the warmth in his eyes was unmistakable, revealing his joy.
"I’m starving!" Lin Nannan complained pitifully.
If Lu Hang hadn’t been stopped by Jian Lingzhi, he would have been home by now, and she might already be enjoying a hot meal.
Without even glancing at the crowd surrounding Jian Lingzhi, Lu Hang took Lin Nannan’s hand and said, "We’re running late. Let’s go to the canteen instead!"
Lin Nannan loved the idea.
Hand in hand, the two walked away, completely ignoring Jian Lingzhi’s fury—especially when she realized Lu Hang had brought her here only to leave with Lin Nannan, making her feel like a joke.
Her face stiff, she mumbled a few niceties before finally extricating herself from the crowd.
Seeing that all the gifts she had brought had been distributed, her face fell, but she said nothing and turned to leave.
Originally, she intended to return to her quarters, but along the way, she overheard people discussing Lu Hang and Lin Nannan. Upon learning they had gone to the canteen, she swung by the canteen too.
She wanted to see if they could still enjoy their meal once she arrived.
She refused to believe any man could resist her, given her beauty and family background.
What did Lin Nannan even have? Why was Lu Hang treasuring her so much? Why...?
As if like she was torturing herself, Jian Lingzhi entered the canteen and spotted Lu Hang sitting there, eating and chatting with Lin Nannan, his face full of smiles. She couldn’t look away.
When Lu Hang had rescued her, she had been terrified. When he comforted her, his voice was very gentle, and he told her not to be afraid, making her feel safe, as if she had found a pillar of support. She couldn’t take her eyes off him then...
She regretted it deeply.
If she had clung to him after being saved, perhaps he wouldn’t be treating her so coldly now.
Her gaze was so intense that even with her back turned, Lin Nannan couldn’t ignore it.
Glancing over her shoulder, Lin Nannan saw Jian Lingzhi staring fixedly at Lu Hang and muttered, "Like a leech!"
Lu Hang chuckled softly, placing a chopstickful of beans into her bowl. "Finish up, and we’ll head home," he murmured.
"Mm!" Lin Nannan grinned and buried herself in her meal...
She focused solely on eating, while Lu Hang kept adding food to her bowl. To everyone watching, it was clear how disgustingly sweet the couple was—yet there were still those blind enough to seek trouble.
Whenever the two were eating, even Lu Hang’s closest comrades kept their distance, unwilling to intrude on their intimacy.
But Jian Lingzhi, as if clueless, approached them anyway, despite Lu Hang’s unmistakable resolve.
Carrying her meal, she walked straight over and greeted with a smile, "Commander Lu, Comrade Lin, what a coincidence! You don’t mind if I sit here, do you?"
Lin Nannan was too busy eating to respond, while Lu Hang’s smile faded as he replied coolly, "We’re almost done. Feel free."
Jian Lingzhi figured he didn’t want to side with her in front of Lin Nannan, so she plopped down with a grin. But when she noticed Lu Hang continuously serving Lin Nannan without eating himself, she said with concern, "Is Comrade Lin feeling unwell? She’s making Commander Lu serve her while he hasn’t eaten a bite."
Her fake concern severely affected Lin Nannan’s appetite.
Swallowing her food, Lin Nannan looked at Jian Lingzhi and asked, "Are you blind?"
"What?" Jian Lingzhi was taken aback.
"Can’t you see his bowl is empty? He’s already finished eating," Lin Nannan retorted irritably.
Lu Hang, accustomed to eating quickly in the military, found joy in feeding her afterward. She enjoyed being spoiled by him, and neither saw anything wrong with it—until Jian Lingzhi came along with her nasty comments.
"But you shouldn’t make him—" Jian Lingzhi, though embarrassed, persisted out of concern for Lu Hang, only to be bluntly interrupted.
"Dr. Jian, our marital affairs are none of your concern," Lu Hang said firmly, placing the last of the dishes into Lin Nannan’s bowl before gathering the tableware. "Wait for me at the entrance. I’ll wash these."
"Okay," Lin Nannan nodded.
As Lu Hang left, Lin Nannan stood to follow but Jian Lingzhi called after her.
"Commander Lu’s got his whole career ahead of him, yet he was forced to marry you. Why must you make his life difficult?" Jian Lingzhi’s sharp tone only amused Lin Nannan.
"What’s it got to do with you?" Lin Nannan stood tall, looking down at her. "Dr. Jian, Lu Hang is married. Back off."
As if her intentions were exposed, Jian Lingzhi snapped angrily, "If you truly cared for Commander Lu, you’d let him go. His future is long, and his path is nothing like yours. You’ll just drag him down."
Lin Nannan almost couldn’t believe her ears. She couldn’t believe Jian Lingzhi had the nerve—trash-talking her while eyeing her man.
"Even if I ruin him, he’d still choose me!" Lin Nannan shot back, just to piss her off, before turning away.
She was afraid if she stayed, she’d snap and want to hit this crazy woman.
When Lu Hang returned and saw Lin Nannan’s stormy face, he frowned. "Did she bother you?"
"She said I should leave you for your own good, or else I’d ruin your future," Lin Nannan snapped.
People needed to see her dirty tricks for what they were.
Lu Hang scowled. "I’ll speak to Political Commissar Chen later."
Lin Nannan sighed. "It’s just talk—no hard evidence. Kicking up a stink would just make me look petty. So let’s wait. She won’t stop at just talking. We’ll get her next time."
