Chapter 411

Sharing the Good News
However, she couldn’t reveal too much about this matter. It was best to let people think her medicine was just that good. After all, everyone knew the prescriptions she used were ancient formulas, many lost to time. By sharing some while keeping others hidden, no one could press her further.
Lu Hang was aware she had her secrets but didn’t press her to explain. Instead, he obligingly said, “Alright, I’ll go make the call.”
Lin Nannan grinned at him, prompting Lu Hang to tweak her cheek in playful annoyance. Before she could even react, he quickly turned and walked away…
“The second Mom’s gone, you drop the act!” Lin Nannan muttered, covering her face and gritting her teeth, though her eyes held no real anger.
...
Beijing, the Lin Residence
Lin Kangnian moved his body, insisting, “I’m really fine now. Look, I can move however I want—no pain at all.”
He tried his best to prove it, but no one believed him.
The injury had been so bad, just remembering it scared them. How could they buy that he was fine already?
“Even a sprain takes months to heal. With your condition, you must rest for at least half a year,” Zhou Cuiwei said sternly.
Seeing his mom wouldn’t budge, Lin Kangnian sighed in frustration. No matter how much he tried to convince them, it was useless.
Thanks to the medicine Nan Nan had given him, he had truly recovered. But his family refused to believe it. He’d been stuck at home forever, with his parents freaking out over every little move, insisting he rest until fully healed.
Lin Kangjian and Lin Kangsheng could do nothing to help either. Their backing didn’t help.
As the elders said, if he didn’t heal right now, he’d pay for it later. So, no matter what they said, the rule stood—once injured, rest thoroughly.
Without Lin Nannan’s medicine, Lin Kangnian wouldn’t just be recovering slowly; he’d have been stuck with lifelong issues, considering how strong Jian Lingzhi’s poison was.
They had kept this matter hidden, too scared to tell the family and freak them out.
As his wife, Zhao Zhi couldn’t shake the feeling something wasn’t right about her husband.
She agreed with her mother-in-law’s concerns—after all, long-term effects were iffy. She didn’t want to see Lin Kangnian suffering from chronic pain in his later years.
There had been cases like this before. Resting until fully healed was the norm. But this time, Lin Kangnian was unusually restless, repeatedly insisting he was fine.
As his closest companion, Zhao Zhi could tell whether he was truly healed or just pretending. What puzzled her was how quickly his wounds had healed—it defied logic.
After her mother-in-law left on an errand, she watched as her husband, who had been sitting still moments ago, suddenly began pacing around the room, looking even healthier than she was. Frowning, she asked, “What’s really going on with your injury?”
Lin Kangnian had already rehearsed his excuse. “Exactly what you see—I’ve recovered!”
“Impossible. You were seriously injured!” Zhao Zhi retorted.
It wasn’t unreasonable for her to doubt. When they first received the news, they had specifically inquired about his condition. His injuries had scared the elders silly, which was why she couldn’t leave and had to send Lin Kangjian and Lin Kangsheng in her place.
“The medical treatment there was excellent, and I healed well,” Lin Kangnian explained, his eyes darting nervously.
Zhao Zhi knew her husband well. He looked so guilty she almost pitied him.
Just as she was about to say more, the phone rang. She answered absently. “Hello, who is this?”
“Hello, this is Lu Hang.”
The caller surprised Zhao Zhi, she exclaimed, "Lu Hang?" She then looked up at Lin Kangsheng.
When he heard it was Lu Hang, Lin Kangsheng immediately walked over to take the call. "A Hang, is something wrong with Nan Nan?"
They wouldn't call unless something was wrong, so he was genuinely concerned.
Hearing Lin Kangnian’s unfiltered concern, Lu Hang chuckled and shared the good news. "Nan Nan is pregnant!"
"What?" Lin Kangnian was so shocked he was speechless. "Nan Nan is pregnant? How is her health? Didn’t they say before that her health wasn’t good and she couldn’t conceive? Now that she’s pregnant, could it harm her health? How is she now? Is she okay?"
This flurry of questions left Lu Hang temporarily at a loss how to respond.
After a pause, he focused on the key point. "She’s doing very well now. You don’t need to worry."
"Then… she can’t cook, and you’re busy. Plus, it’s not easy to take care of her there, especially with postpartum care. Why don’t you let Nan Nan come to the capital? Our family has more people to look after her," Lin Kangsheng earnestly coaxed.
Lu Hang knew exactly what he was after and replied amusedly, "The way you say it makes it sound like my family doesn’t care about Nan Nan. My parents only just returned home but will be back before Nan Nan gives birth. Besides, staying here is safer and better for her pregnancy."
His words were gentle but effectively ended Lin Kangnian’s protests.
"Did you call just to gloat about it?" Lin Kangnian grumbled.
"No, we just thought we should let you know. But I’ll take good care of Nan Nan," Lu Hang promised.
Even without the Lin family, he would care for and protect his wife. To him, the Lin family wasn’t Nan Nan’s fallback or support—he was her support and refuge.
Lin Kangnian was seething. "You’ve been by your wife’s side so much you’ve forgotten what you’re supposed to do!"
Lu Hang could almost picture Lin Kangnian’s sputtering indignation and chuckled. "If you’re really that upset, maybe I won't bother calling you next time something happens."
"You wouldn’t dare!"
If he did, Lin Kangnian’s parents would be the first to have his head.
After the teasing, Lu Hang spoke seriously. "Nan Nan is doing well here. You don’t need to worry."
Lin Kangnian had seen how well Lu Hang treated Lin Nannan, so he knew this was true.
Still, he still regretted that he hadn’t managed to take Nan Nan back from Lu Hang.
After asking a few more questions, he finally hung up.
"What did he say?" Zhao Zhi asked curiously.
Her husband’s fluctuating emotions made it hard to tell what Lu Hang had said, but she could tell he had been completely outplayed.
Lin Kangnian sat down and said, "Nan Nan is pregnant. I was worried and wanted her to come to the capital, but Lu Hang refused."
"Of course he wouldn’t agree," Zhao Zhi said bluntly. "If it were me giving birth and my parents wanted to take me back, would you be okay with that?"
"That’s different!" Lin Kangnian spluttered before arguing seriously, "Lu Hang is in the military and constantly tied up. What if something happens to Nan Nan when he’s not around? Who can she turn to?"
Zhao Zhi burst out laughing, undercutting his seriousness. "Didn’t you say Nan Nan is very capable and the officers' wives think the world of her? Even if Lu Hang isn’t there, she has them!"
"Is that the same?" he retorted stubbornly.
Zhao Zhi shot him a look but left it at that…
It wasn’t the same. To Lin Nannan, those military wives might mean more than the Lin family.
If Lin Nannan truly accepted the Lin family as her own, it would’ve been Nan Nan calling.
