Qiao Lu appeared oblivious to Lu Hang's coldness. She wiped away her tears and smiled, saying, "Don't worry about it. As long as you're doing well, that's more important than anything else."

Lu Hang gave a faint smile but didn’t respond. Instead, he asked directly, "Why are you here?"

He could tell Qiao Lu and the people behind her had come with purpose—especially since she was in the military—but he was certain they hadn’t been sent by Zhang Dabang.

"We’re here to find Lin Nannan from your village. The grain she planted has yielded two to three times the usual amount and has been awarded recognition," she explained in a lowered voice, unable to hide the joy in her tone. Yet she failed to notice the flash of anger in Lu Hang’s eyes.
