Chapter 340
by 夏至三候Chapter 340
Don’t Provoke Him Casually
"Everyone in the compound says I'm lucky—Commander Lu’s good-looking, capable, and treats me right. Now that I take a closer look, you really are quite good-looking," Lin Nannan said with a beaming smile.
Lu Hang looked at the woman who was eyeing him like a snack, torn between laughter and exasperation. "We got married last year, and it's only now that you think I'm good-looking?"
That makes zero sense!
Lin Nannan blinked. "The first time I saw you, I thought you were handsome. Too bad you were paralyzed, but that didn’t stop me from wanting you... Hmm, the fact that I thought about pouncing on you every day should be proof of how serious I was."
Was that really how "sincerity" was supposed to be used?
Lu Hang thought back to those days when he felt like light was breaking through the cracks, slowly warming his helpless self. It all seemed like a lifetime ago.
Snapping out of his thoughts, he voiced his confusion. "If you thought I was good-looking from the start, why are you suddenly so emotional about it now?"
"Well, after the initial awe, I got used to it and stopped thinking much about it. But the other military wives in the compound keep teasing me, saying how amazing you are in every way and how lucky I am. So I decided to take a good look at you again, and now I think today’s Commander Lu is even hotter!"
She was just telling the truth.
The paralyzed Lu Hang lying in bed back then was indeed attractive, but the current Lu Hang, tempered and sharp, radiated this unstoppable vibe of confidence and vigor.
Lu Hang knew it too—after all, back when he couldn’t move, she’d almost wrecked him a few times...
"Sweetheart," Lu Hang murmured, his voice deep and tender.
"Ah!" It was the first time he had called her that, and Lin Nannan was so flustered she forgot which way was up.
A faint smile flickered in Lu Hang’s eyes as he whispered, "Aren’t you hungry?"
The mood was officially killed. Lin Nannan gave him the stink-eye, making Lu Hang chuckle. He tapped her nose lightly and said, "Eat up now or you’ll be whining later about your stomach again."
The aroma from the pot completely captured her attention, making Lu Hang’s charms worthless at that moment.
Well aware of her nature, Lu Hang smirked slightly, making sure she ate well—she’d need her strength later.
The next day, everyone was looking forward to watching Lin Nannan plow the fields again, only to find that she hadn’t gotten up by noon.
When asked, Lu Hang simply said she was resting after the exhausting work the day before.
No one doubted it—after all, she had done more than any grown man could.
In reality, the "exhausted" Lin Nannan was still lying in bed by midday, having serious regrets.
She had always thought her strength could match Lu Hang’s, but this time, she truly realized that when it came to certain activities, provoking him was unwise—the gap in endurance was brutal.
Logically, she wasn’t the one who should be exhausted, yet here she was, couldn’t be bothered to move.
Meanwhile, the man who had been going strong last night was just as lively today. She was jealous.
Aching everywhere, she totally surrendered after failing to get up in the morning. Even lunch was brought back by Lu Hang.
He was busy too and didn’t have time to cook, but knowing she wouldn’t want to go out today, he made a point to bring her food.
"Don’t think I’ve forgiven you yet!" she muttered through gritted teeth.
Lu Hang chuckled, not pushing his luck. "Get some more food and rest. I’ll come back to make dinner for you later."
"Alright!" Lin Nannan only said she was angry in words, but in reality, she let it out right away.
If Lu Hang's clothes were taken off, one would see his back was crisscrossed with red marks.
Lin Nannan truly took a whole day to recover and finished what was left the next day.
......
On market day, Hu Zhaoxia came by early to fetch them. She was surprised to see Lu Hang accompanying Lin Nannan.
Only after learning that Lu Hang wanted to buy groceries at the market and cook for everyone did she understand.
"You could've just had Nan Nan tell me, and I would've helped out. No need to take time off just for this!" Hu Zhaoxia said to Lu Hang.
Lu Hang smiled and replied, "There are a lot of things missing at home that need restocking. I was afraid Nan Nan wouldn’t remember everything alone."
Hu Zhaoxia, well aware of how tight they were, didn’t press further.
As for the others in the compound, they either kept their distance from Lin Nannan or steered clear of picking fights with her.
It couldn’t be helped—they weren’t afraid of Lin Nannan retaliating against them, but they feared her teaming up with Lu Hang to deal with their husbands. Their own men had drilled it into them, so they took it seriously and avoided crossing her.
As for things they disapproved of, they turned a blind eye.
The market was held in a small town. Though the town itself wasn’t large, it was surrounded by villages, so on market days, the place was buzzing. Food, drinks, daily necessities—everything was available. But things sold fast; if you were too slow, you’d end up with nothing.
Both Lu Hang and Hu Zhaoxia knew the drill. Once at the market, they split up—Lu Hang took Lin Nannan to buy what they needed, while Hu Zhaoxia went for her own purchases.
"This place is packed!" Lin Nannan exclaimed happily at the sight of the seemingly endless street.
"Next time I have free time, I’ll bring you out again," Lu Hang said with a smile, seeing her light up.
Lin Nannan glanced at him and chuckled, "No worries if you’re busy. I can just rope Auntie Hu into it."
"So cruel—using me and then tossing me aside. Are you starting to dislike me already?" Lu Hang teased her, putting on a heartbroken act, which made Lin Nannan giggle.
"Don’t worry, I might abandon anyone else, but never you!" Lin Nannan replied with a laugh before pointing at a pot vendor. "Quit fooling around—hurry and buy what we need. Auntie Hu’s probably waiting."
Lu Hang had a list ready, so their shopping was orderly.
The only thing that could break his principles was whatever Nan Nan had her eye on.
She was new to a lot of this stuff—food, utensils, all at affordable prices. Whatever Lin Nannan asked for, Lu Hang bought for her.
Some things, while Lu Hang wasn’t looking, Lin Nannan secretly slipped into her space to lighten their load.
"Fish—should we buy some?" Lin Nannan asked eagerly when she saw the lively fish.
She only knew Lu Hang planned to cook a few dishes but wasn’t sure what exactly, so she pointed out anything they’d missed.
Spotting a fathead fish, Lu Hang told her, "I’ll handle the fish. You go buy some tofu—we’ll make fish stew."
Easy enough for Nan Nan. She returned with the tofu, and the two continued shopping.
Moving along, the couple discussed and settled on a menu of five dishes and one soup—just with bigger servings.
"One table’s enough?" Lin Nannan asked uncertainly.
"Enough," Lu Hang replied without further explanation.
Of course, Lin Nannan went along with him, though she still spotted things she wanted. If suitable, Lu Hang bought them; if not, he’d explain why and let her decide.
Most of the time, if he said no, Lin Nannan ultimately didn’t insist.
Some things were unavoidable; others just weren’t worth it.
