Chapter 157
by 夏至三候**Chapter 157**
**Lu Ming Is Stunned**
From the Lu family’s attitude, it was clear that Lin Nannan wasn’t faking it in front of them—that’s why they doted on her so much…
Thinking about how the Lu family treated Lin Nannan, Qiao Lu felt that Lin Nannan must have done something else to get treated so special.
But what exactly had she done?
The seeds that brought a bountiful harvest, that weird wheelchair… Could those count?
Qiao Lu pondered, but even if these things confirmed Lin Nannan’s involvement, she was powerless— the Lu family wouldn’t admit it, and there was no evidence…
And they couldn’t just haul someone off for no reason.
…
Meanwhile, Lu Hang, who Qiao Lu was obsessing over, had already boarded the train safely with Lu Ming, again getting sleeper berths.
From the moment they entered the station, Lu Hang was on edge, worried that if he were spotted, Lu Ming would be dragged into it.
But once inside, he realized no one was watching him anymore—their last-minute trip had thrown off whoever was tailing them; clearly, they hadn’t been prepared or hadn’t had time to react.
Once safely aboard and the compartment door shut, Lu Ming let out a deep sigh of relief. “Made it! Heh!”
The cabin was empty—they’d arrived early. Seeing how tense Lu Ming had been, Lu Hang knew he’d been anxious the whole time.
Thinking that if Lu Ming still believed he was paralyzed, he might not want to part ways later, Lu Hang stood up as Lu Ming tried to help him onto the bed and said, “I’ll do it myself!”
“Ah—oh, okay!” Lu Ming blinked stupidly, then pushed the empty wheelchair aside. “I’ll move this over there. Brother, if you need anything, just tell me, I’ll help—wait, Brother, you can walk?!” Only then did Lu Ming realize something was off. He spun around to stare at Lu Hang, already sitting on the bed, looking completely floored.
Lu Hang chuckled. “I was wondering when you’d finally notice.”
Lu Ming ditched the wheelchair and rushed to his side, equal parts amazed and thrilled. “What happened? How did you recover? The docs said you’d never walk again!”
That’s why the family had given up hope—otherwise, they would’ve moved heaven and earth to fix him.
Lu Hang explained what Lin Nannan had done and why he’d kept it a secret, then sighed. “Grandma and our parents already know. If it weren’t for the urgency of this trip, I wouldn’t have told them either.”
“Why?” Lu Ming asked, confused.
“They’ve had eyes on me—you know that. Even as a cripple, they wouldn’t leave me alone. If they found out I’m healed, do you think they’d let me go?”
Having lived through life-and-death moments himself, Lu Ming gasped and looked at Lu Hang anxiously. “With things being this risky, why are you still going out?”
“I need to end this for good. Otherwise, it’ll never stop.” He revealed the real reason for this trip.
Lu Ming nodded, his thoughts racing. Finally, he set his jaw and said, “Brother, things are different now. Before, you were in the military—it was safer. But now you’re alone, people recognize you, and getting around isn’t easy. Why not take me with you? I can help! I’m a nobody to them.”
Lu Hang shook his head. “Before, they might not have cared about you. But after your last appearance, if word spreads from the village and you suddenly show up here, they’ll connect me to you. That’ll just tie us down and make things harder.”
Realizing that his presence might actually cause more trouble, Lu Ming could only choke down his disappointment.
