    Chapter 135

    The Setup

"You need to have ideals. Driving a harvester was something you never imagined, but now you can do it, right?" Lin Nannan encouraged with aspirations.

Lu Ming blinked, then admitted realistically, "Sister-in-law, ideals are important, but... a passenger jet? I don’t even dare to think about that. As for large vehicles..." He patted the harvester and said with bravado, "I’ll definitely drive one someday. When that happens, I’ll take you and my brother out for a ride."

Lin Nannan gave him a withering look and scoffed, "If you could fly a plane and take me and your brother along, that’d be worth bragging about. A truck? Big deal, anyone can drive one!"

    Lu Ming was crushed—he couldn’t!

    His sister-in-law was brutal.

Feeling dejected, Lu Ming needed reassurance, so he drove the harvester straight out of the yard and onto the main road.

Lin Nannan knew exactly what he was thinking—that youthful impulsiveness, prideful and bold. When it was time to shine, she let him soar freely, so she didn’t stop him.

When the villagers saw the harvester—which had been broken beyond repair last year and presumed gone this year—suddenly moving down the road, they stood stunned before rushing over joyfully to ask the Village Chief when he’d found someone to fix it.

But when they saw Lu Ming and Lin Nannan sitting in the harvester, their jaws dropped in disbelief.

"A Ming, how... how can you drive a harvester?" The villager stammered in shock.

Lu Ming boasted, "Oh, this? Easy. Just took a look and figured it out."

"Just took a look?" The villager wanted to strangle him. Who was he fooling? All he felt when looking at it was dizziness—no way could he drive it.

Seeing his smugness reaching unbearable levels, Lin Nannan whispered a warning, "If you don’t want to get beaten up, tone it down."

Lu Ming straightened his expression, but before he could speak, his sister-in-law smoothly explained, "Uncle, the village’s harvester was broken, and the chief was desperate. A Ming learned a bit at school and wanted to give it a try. Turns out he actually fixed it, so we took it out for a test run."

The villager, Lu Li, was also from the Lu family. Hearing that Lu Ming had repaired it, he swelled with family pride. "Good, good! A true Lu. If we’d known you had this skill last year, we wouldn’t have suffered so much."

Lu Ming, however, wasn’t happy about the praise. Feeling the weight of expectation, he glanced at his sister-in-law, who was pinning him with her gaze, and didn’t dare argue.

"Heh... I didn’t know last year either. It was only when my sister-in-law’s crops were about to be harvested that we asked the chief and found out the harvester was broken. So we came to take a look, fixed the damaged parts, and got it working again." Lu Ming grudgingly claimed responsibility for his sister-in-law’s work, explaining with a long-suffering look.

He didn’t understand—if she had just claimed the achievement, no one would dare call her foolish again.

But she refused the credit and forced it onto him. He didn’t want it at all—it felt dishonest!

"What matters is it's fixed now. Hurry and take it out to cheer everyone up. With the harvester broken, we were all dreading how exhausting this year’s harvest would be," Lu Li urged.

What else could Lu Ming do? He had to agree.

He began to regret. If he’d known this would happen, he wouldn’t have volunteered to learn.

He glanced at his sister-in-law, who was gazing into the distance, and wondered if he’d been set up from the very beginning.

She'd probably counted on his natural curiosity when she suggested his uncle and father learn first—leaving him to stumble into the trap instead.
