Chapter 173
by 夏至三候Chapter 173
A Game-Changer
When Tian Jia and the others left, they were totally stunned.
It was the first time they had ever been treated so coldly.
Lin Nannan made it clear through and through that they weren’t wanted. But since knowledge was important, they toughed it out and stayed—leaving loaded with new knowledge.
Still, being kicked out without even a meal left them kind of thrown off. It wasn’t until they returned to their lodgings that they finally came to their senses.
They exchanged glances, faces serious.
“We should let the professor know,” Tian Jia said, and no one objected.
Xue He hadn’t gotten hardly any decent sleep in days, trying to deal with the problems they faced. His hair looked like a complete bird’s nest, but he didn’t care—he just wanted to catch a quick nap while he could.
When he got back, he saw his students huddled together talking near his door. Frowning, he realized how busy he’d been and how much he’d neglected them.
He brought them here to show them something new, but instead of solving anything, he ended up ignoring them completely.
Rubbing his temples, he walked over and said, “I’ve been too busy lately to look out for you. If you can’t handle being here, you can go back to school.”
Tian Jia got nervous and quickly said, “Professor, take a look at this!”
“What is it?” Xue He took the notebook and skimmed through it before looking up at Tian Jia.
“Professor, just read it first!” Tian Jia urged, afraid she wouldn’t explain it well.
Knowing Tian Jia wasn’t the exaggerating type, Xue He looked down and started reading. His tired eyes suddenly focused, and by the time he finished, his face was serious.
“Where did this come from?” he asked.
Tian Jia hurriedly explained, “Yesterday at the market, we met a woman selling pastries. A young wife there was scary smart—she could calculate prices instantly without a single mistake. I casually asked her the problem that’s been bugging us, and she fired back the answer without even thinking. She was amazing, so we asked for help—and not only did she solve that, but she also cleared up all our other questions.”
Xue He perked up immediately. “Let me see what you have!”
He knew exactly what his students were working on, and he wanted to see what this person had figured out.
The students quickly handed over their notebooks. Xue He grabbed them all, plopped down right there, and spread them out. The first thing he noticed was the perfect penmanship. He flipped through each one carefully, his breathing quickening.
“Stay here. I’m taking these with me,” Xue He said excitedly. “If this works, you’ve hit the jackpot.”
With that, he turned and left, completely forgetting he had come back to rest.
Tian Jia and the others exchanged hopeful looks.
“If this really solves our problem, that young wife must be some kind of wizard!”
“How many people can actually teach us? Whether it works or not, she’s seriously impressive,” Tian Jia said, clearly admiring Lin Nannan.
Tang Xiaocheng nodded. “True. And judging by the professor’s reaction, it’s gotta be good. Let’s just wait and see.”
“If it impressed the professor, it’s definitely useful—and a total game-changer!” Tian Jia clenched her fists, full of hope.
The others felt the same way. Their goal was achieved, and the notes were handed over. After a quick discussion, they went their separate ways to rest and wait for the professor’s return.
